After dealing nearly 200 damage with super-powered smiting with Raven's Head to the enhanced BBEG I cooked up, he failed his reflex save against the soul lash and went tumbling down the gallowspire to his death.

If you have to go down, go down after putting your sword through the BBEG's face!

Honestly if that was my character, especially as a paladin, I would LOVE to end a campaign that way. Slay your ultimate evil and ride off to your eternal reward. That character's death is going to be a legend of your gaming table!

Adventure: Broken Moon
Location: Feldgrau
Catalyst: Trying to take out Auren Vrood.

Spoiler:
Circle of Death fun! The group of three generally powerful and clever gestalt players finally encountered Vrood in his tower after wiping out the visible threats in Feldgrau. I gave him a fourth level of Agent of the Grave (AotG) to maintain his spell list and also access to circle of death.

Although the cleric had first managed to blind Vrood (his fort save is bad.), Vrood dispelled the blindness shortly after. The monk then tried to grapple him and succeeded. The party wizard/alchemist sent a ray of enervation towards Vrood, but with the benefit of negative energy affinity from the fourth level of AotG Vrood instead got 15 temporary hitpoints. :) Realizing the powerful arcane threat Vrood countered with a circle of death (nice concentration check made while being grappled). He hit a sweet number with 24HD affected and only the wizard made the save.

Clever use of bait (Cybrissa) enabled the Wizard to bring his fallen allies to Carrion Hill for resurrection.

Vrood didn't stay to watch them return (he is the main villain in our campaign) and left to continue his plans.

There's no Adivion Adrissant in your campaign? What would you have done if the party defeated Vrood?

I had hoped they would actually as that would have triggered something else, but the one they fought is Vrood's double sent to do his dirty work. The real Vrood has taken AA's place (and his face).

I have a different thread about it here, but we wanted a villain that they had some connection to. If the trail they had followed for three books had ended with Vrood's death they most likely would have been less interested in trying to track and stop the Whispering Way.

Now, on the other hand, the Whispering Way has an identifiable face and my group is eager to get revenge. :)

Interesting. Was it a simulacrum (as per the 7th level arcane spell) or was the double of some different nature?

I've had the party interact with Adivion in Lepidstadt and plan to drop a few other clues that hopefully will give them some hint of another foe and proper motivation.

Name: Sir William Paladin
Race: Human [Muwangi]
Classes/levels: Paladin 7
Adventure: Trial of the Beast
Location: L3. Laboratory of Creation
Catalyst: Heroically Guarding the Retreat
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
It is with a heavy heart the brave adventurers collected the remains of Sir William from Alphon Caromarc's lab. Sir William having deduced the that Alphon's homunculus was trying to communicate, was able to determine that Caromarc was in the level above, but misunderstood the warning about the Promethean. The party ascended with caution, emerging into the web cloaked lab. Pushing his way through the cloying web to Alphon's prison, the Aberent Promethean struck out at William who was separated from the group. William reached Caromarc, but realized that he could not free him. Alphon croaked a warning about the Bondslave Thrall, which William relayed to the party.

While William held the ground so that Shiphra and Hengus (Oracle and Alchemist) could attempt to reach the the tower pinnacle, Lord Starkazi stayed behind to help. At this point the Promethean stopped his dodging in and out of reach and wadded in fully. He mighty Chull claws clamped around Williams neck, while head the paralytic tentacles wrapped William in their grip.

As the slime sapped Sir WIlliam's control of his body, he shouted to Antoni to flee for his life and protect the others. With WIlliam paralyzed the Promethean turned on Antoni Starkazi, on the roof the Lightening Caller and Bondslave Thrall hummed to life, drawing cascades of lightening into the tower. Antoni, with little option after taking a mighty thumping from the Promethean fled from the tower.

Deep in the chasm beneath the tower Hengus opened a new set of eyes, the Beast of Lepidstadt, and with grim determination set about climbing the rock face leading to the tower base.

William, alone with the Promethean, wrapped in paralytic tentacles, partially displaced, once again bore the full wrath of the Promethean. WIth claws and a crushing grip the Promethean began ripping William apart, bathing in his viscera.

Moments later the Beast burst through the trapdoor, bellowing with rage, through its eyes Shiphra and Hengus seeing the destruction of William's body. Even controlled the beast bellowed "FRIIEEENDDD" besides itself with grief.

At that point the Beast and Promethean locked in mortal combat, but with air support from Hengus, and bardic inspiration from Antoni, and under the Divine control of Shiphra the beast destroyed the Promethean. All amid a shower of lightening.

It is still TBD if William's allies will seek his a raise dead, or allow him to rest, but it was a very Paladin way to go.

Silver Crusade

Awesome. Raise a glass to William!

Liberty's Edge

This one... this is a story of a deceased character and the tale that led to his replacement, true to the best of my recall.

Name: Sain Golus
Race: Human Paladin of Numina
Origin: Whitespire, the capital of the Shattered Lands. Our group's Scandinavia, essentially.
Adventure: Broken Moon
Cause of Death: Arden Vrood. Circle of Death. Let's move on.

Wait, That's It?: Yes. Nothing to see here.

You Sure: Totally. Go read some other thread.

Wasn't Sain Your Character?: ..................yes

Bwahahahaha XD: ;_;

What Happened: After tearing through the skeletons outside Vrood's hideout, we confront the bastard himself. He Cloudkills us and we quickly find out that warforged aren't affected by it. The fight goes on, he goes invisible, attacks our witch, and finally decides to go Circle of Death on us.

Tash the druid's animal companion bit it on the spot, as did Sain. Turns out paladins aren't quite the unkillable juggernauts I thought they were in the Pathfinder Society days.

The Aftermath: The warforged, a CN heroic sociopath glaive fighter named THUNDERcles~! (yes, the punctuation is part of his name as far as I'm concerned) is allowed to immediately switch alignment to LG and take a paladin level. (As we described his stats, "Accidental Paladin~!") He immediately decides "SAIN WOULD WANT NOTHING MORE THAN TO HEROICALLY SLAY THE EVIL WEREWOLVES BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL EVIL!!!!" Said werewolves all Smite Good the Smiting Evil warforged, melee ensues, and The Group: 5, Werewolves: 1 (Tash's summoned cyclops heroically died fighting, but I love how his player said "Okay, I'm summoning him right here. Great Cleave, and I'm using his ability. Natural 20, rolling to confirm that critical hit!!")

I Guess PRPG Needs Cyberpsychosis Rules?: Tash spends a week "mourning" the death of Birdie (read: mating with a female werewolf) while Rosalina (the witch) and THUNDERcles~! wait for him. During this time, THUNDERcles~! hallucinates that he's seeing Sain and assumes that he's being visited from beyond the grave.

"Sain": No, no, I assure you, I'm only in your head. By the way, not that I mind, but why is there a half-naked Miss Joylene on my lap? (Joylene is the replacement for Kendra.)
THUNDERcles~!: Hey, I wanted to imagine you as being happy in the afterlife!
"Sain": I am, thank you...

Naturally, this degenerated into the others coming up with their version of Sain, including a Carmen Miranda-esque sain named Sainorita. Amazingly, this is pertinent.

Once Tash rejoins the group with his new wolf, Roan, they need to get information as to where the Whispering Way will strike next. Our DM leads him to a magic shop run by...

Booke: Okay, Snorb, what's your character's name?
Me: Rita.
Tash: We're going to a shop run by someone named Rita.
THUNDERcles~!: ...Wait. Sainorita... Sain-your-rita.... "Sain, you're Rita!" SHE IS THE ONE WHO WILL REPLACE SAIIIIIIIN~!!
Me: Wow, that was a truly Batman-esque leap of logic there.

So the group now has Rita, a magus/cleric who has impressed THUNDERcles~! by actually having a background, unlike Rosalina the witch. I tell him in-character about how I can channel spells through my falcata...

THUNDERcles~!: BUT... YOU ARE A SPELLCASTER!
Rita: With a sword! ^_^
THUNDERcles~!: I ALWAYS ASSUMED THERE WERE TWO KINDS OF SPELLCASTERS-- CLERICS, AND COWARDLY SORCERERS/WIZARDS~!
Rita: Don't forget about magi! I studied, and I can spellstrike with my divine magic, too!
THUNDERcles~!: EXPLAIN!!!
Rita: Any spell I have to touch someone with, I can use my sword to touch with instead, so they get hit with the spell and the falcata. Inflict Moderate Wounds is one of those spells.
Rosalina: Too bad we're going up against vampires after the Cthulhu cult...
Rita: You know what else is a cleric spell I have to touch with? Diarama. (I rename my spells after Megaten/Phantasy Star spells. Diarama is Cure Moderate Wounds.)
THUNDERcles~!: THAT IS AWESOME! YOU HAVE IMPRESSED THUNDERCLES~!, RITA IMITO!!
Me: ...Oh my God, I just made the best class from Final Fantasy V.

Liberty's Edge

Tash (me) was attempting to kill him by wildshaping into an air elemental, sucking up some cloudkill in my whirlwind and attempting to stick the necro in it. Bastard kept making the reflex saves as my con slowly went down ><

Sovereign Court

Not a death, but the seeds are being planted... by the party's own Alchemist!

Name: Vikas of Gorum
Race: Half orc
Classes/levels: Inquisitor 12
Adventure: Ashes at Dawn
Location: The Glass House (Restoration Park)
Catalyst: an Elixer of Love

The Gory Details::
After defeating the druidic vampire guardian of the Park and her giant flytrap pet the Inquisitor of Gorum needed some serious healing! Having been the only member of the Shadows of Redemption to remain grounded he took the brunt of attacks by "Dragon."

The party's Master Chymist (suffering from psychosis after WotW and plotting for three sessions against his fellows) was helping the Gorumite Inquisitor with healing by offering him "curative potions" one of which was in fact an elixer of love.

The charming of the inquisitor stemmed from the earlier discovery and healing of the group's elven spirit rangers multiple personality disorder (also gained in WotW). His alter ego had begun exhibiting signs of being a demon wolf (the ranger ate the antipaladins heart in Broken Moon). Not wanting a repeat of this on himself the crafty alchemist has begun stacking the decks in his favor.

Name: Shayla
Race: Half-Elf
Classes/levels: Ranger 4
Adventure: Trial of the Beast
Catalyst: Brother Swarm
The Gory Details: Having met up with Brother Swarm and his coterie of wraith children (we have a 6 man party, so I changed the encounter to add more wraiths; too many villains have died through a lack of actions), Shayla died while heroically saving the cleric from death, so that he might purge the evil from this land. This tactic, while successful, soon backfired as she rose as a wraith and nearly killed off the rest of the party mid-fight.

Name: Krysnis
Race: Changling
Classes/levels: Monk (6)
Adventure: Trial of the Beast
Location: Schloss Caromarc
Catalyst: The Trolls
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
The party was at the front gate of the guardhouse, unable to get in. Krysnis decided she would climb up, sneak into the guardhouse, and open the doors. She opened the doors just in time for the party to see a crossbow bolt (that critically hit) pierce her through her chest. She was then pulled back into the guardhouse as the doors were resealed. The party could hear her scream as her limbs were torn apart. The buried her near the Shutterwood.

Name: Zalura Evant
Race: Changeling
Classes/levels: Rogue 2/Harrower 1/Witch 6
Adventure: Broken Moon
Location: Feldgrau Tower
Catalyst: Auren Vrood
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
The party new Auren Vrood was hiding out in the tower, and when they arrived, they soon dispatched the skeletons. Zalura flew up to the top of the tower while the paladin ran inside and up the stairs and the sorcerer came in to fire from the center of the tower. Auren Vrood waited until they were done before announcing himself (already invisible). They took on the zombies he brought on (as I didn't want to use the hands) and Auren soon joined in on the fight. Zalura used see invisibility and pink fairie fire on him to show her companions where he was. Needless to say, the necromancer didn't enjoy being pink. The necromancer took on heavy hits while trying to catch everyone with his nastier spells. I used a modified version of Circle of Death (since the PCs were level 9, and made it that the closest one in distance to him that failed the save would be the one to go down). Zalura was standing in front of her boyfriend (the sorcerer) and both of them failed. Needless to say, the witch was the one to drop to a shocked sorcerer, and the paladin lost his flight ability (but has a ring of featherfall thankfully). Auren died with a blast from the sorcerer and then he dropped to his knees to hold onto her - hoping that she was okay and finding out she wasn't.

The party did take her to a planned caravan passing through who were able to raise her since neither one of them were going to let her stay dead. The paladin/cleric did not have gentle repose as a spell, but he used his liquid ice and a bag of holding to preserve the body. It was a rather powerful scene all together.

Liberty's Edge

You know, I had this really boss obituary typed up, and right as I post it, they decide to run maintenance on the boards and that just completely obliterated what I had written.

Name: THUNDERcles~!
Race: Warforged Glaive Fighter/Accidental Paladin
Origin: The mad scientist's lair from back in Trial of the Beast, so I guess Professor Plot's gonna be pissed off when he finds out about this.
Adventure: Wake of the Watcher
Cause of Death: Ticks. Thousands of ticks.

We Haven't Played This Game In A Freaking Month: We make towards the totally creepy eeeeeeevil mansion that the Whispering Way was headed to in the swamps outside Illmarsh. After Tash, our satyr druid, turns into an earth elemental and goes burrowing into the stables "like Bugs Bunny," he reports that the house was probably abandoned. THUNDERcles~! decides that we must storm the house, and he makes the decision by kicking in the portico door. There is a chorus of "No! Stop!! You fool!!", "Wait! We should plan this out first before we bust in the door!", "Too late! He already *bash!*ed in the door!", and from our DM, "...What the hell is a portico?"

An Outdoor Porch Leading In To Your House: Well, whatever it is, the door leading in looks like a warforged put his right foot through it. He looks around and ascertains that it is all clear. That's when the ticks show up.

Spoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon: Ticks do Constitution damage through their blood drain special, but we as players don't know if warforged can actually be blood drained. Turns out, "Do you have a Constitution score?" means "You can be blood drained." The following conversation happens:

THUNDERcles~!: HA HA HA! DO NOT WORRY, INSECTS CANNOT STOP THE MIGHTY THUNDERCLES~!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHH OH GOD MY BODY IS COMPLETELY FILLED WITH TICKS!!
Rita (Me): Holy crap! THUNDERcles~!, don't open your mouth! D:
THUNDERcles~!: GYAAAAAAAAAAH gbelo
Rita: Hold your nose and earholes shut, too!
THUNDERcles~!: (inaudible muttering that I'm pretty sure is in-character)

Tactical Espionage Inaction: Tash's wolf immediately drags Tash out of harm's way, while I introduce the ticks (and our unfortunately-positioned warforged) to my Burning Hands spell. "Unfortunately" is the important word here, because my Burning Hands spell that sounds like a blunderbuss because I'm all for thematic spell flavoring is somehow Reflex-halved by one of my two targets. (Hint: It wasn't the robot.) Our witch, seeing the lack of success on my part with Burning Hands, follows up with... Burning Hands. Guess which target halved that.

It Still Wasn't The Robot: THUNDERcles~! somehow manages to fail his Fort save to not be distracted. Another round starts, and Tash summons a magma elemental. I use my arcane pool to get Burning Hands back, and try again to light these ticks on fire like miniature Christmas trees. I should note at the third "Well, the ticks made their save!" I ultimately wound up doing more damage to THUNDERcles~! than I did to the ticks. I wisely decide to back up and allow the party to help out. The ticks, no longer satisfied with munching on a giant made out of starmetal, obsidian, and silver, decide to add Rosalina (the witch) and the magma elemental (the poblano pepper) to the menu.

It Tastes Like Burning: Round three. The ticks finally finish off THUNDERcles~! after a second failed Fortitude save to avoid distraction. I find out that a) magma elementals are immune to fire damage, b) Tick swarms are REALLY good at dodging, and c) I should start throwing more Fortitude save effects at these guys when I run Jade Regent again, considering how cursed we are at making these things. Eventually, the ticks get Rosalina also, a second magma elemental is summoned, and I blow through five arcane pool points to keep Burning Hands these ticks until they all finally die. I mourn the picked-clean skeleton that was Rosalina for four seconds before I mourn the picked-clean suit of heavy plate mail that was THUNDERcles~!.

Something (Bad) Happens As A Result of Magic: I go through the warforged's itempack and grab his money. As Tash mentions that he can't fix THUNDERcles~!, he can revive Rosalina. ("You mean on the cheap, or the right way?" as I touch my holy symbol of Numina. "Look," Tash replies, unconcerned that I'm nowhere near enough of a high-level magus/cleric to Raise Dead. "Just help me get a thousand gold together so I can get the supplies to cast Reincarnate.") Supplies are bought, Reincarnate is cast, and Rosalina comes back as an elf ("Tash, you screwed it up! Rosie's an elf now!" "He didn't screw up! I'm alive!"). I wonder if we can repurpose THUNDERcles~!'s body as a suit of armor now.

Liberty's Edge

My wolf companion, who has a hat that allows him to alter self (also has an INT of 7 thanks to ability increase +headband of int) into a human has repurposed Tundercles's glaive. He's not proficient with it, but he's still pretty damn good with it with his power attack and combat reflexes.

Name: Foxglove
Race: Tiefling
Class/Levels: Rogue 6
Adventure: Trial of the Beast
Location: Schloss Caromarc, Room of Fungus

The Gory Details:

The party triggered the trap of the two Leech Swarms, which they destroyed but had to return to town to deal with the DRAIN that was dealt by the Leech Swarms. When they returned they easily dealt with the Vargouiles and then having checked every other door, opened the set of double doors into the fungus room. The Basidirond loses initiative, and a few knowledge checks are made, but no one rolls high enough to identify the Basidirond. It proceeds to unleash its spore cloud and engulfs four our of five PCs within it. Blocking the doorway between the rest of the party and the fungi are Foxglove and Willem (Scythe Wielding Human Fighter 6), and with this tactical setup, everyone in the cloud except Willem failed the save against its Spore Cloud. (They all had Anti-toxin, but didn't help against the Basidirond's effects). Willem attempted to drop the Purple Fungi, and missed his attack roll (rolled really bad), and then proceeded to fail his save against the Spore Cloud. As they stood there hallucinating, only the Dhampir Magus who was 30' back and flying could take any actions. This went on for about 7 rounds, and while the plants couldn't hit a Fighter wearing Full-Plate, they had no problem against the Tiefling Rogue. She made most of her saves against the poison with her Antitoxin, but was probably struck about 10 times by tenatacles and did fail a couple. She was finished off by the Basidirond, who struck her down and then killed her with the disease spores present in its slam. This was an encounter that I didn't think looked bad on paper...

Name: Sabastian Shaw, Gant Dashwood, and Julius Belmont
Race: Human, Elf, and Human
Classes/levels: 1 Gunslinger, 2 Alchemist, and 2 Inquisitor.
Adventure: Haunting of Harrowstone
Location: The Nevermore
Catalyst: The Splatterman
The Gory Details: Sabastian being a 4 year old trapped inside a 22 year old body pushed Julius into the pit inside the training room. Gant jumped in after him and Sabastian soon followed. They fought their way past the ectoplasmic beast, and managed to destroy The Mosswater Marauder. They ran into a bit of a snag in the Torture champer when Sabatian became trapped inside the Mourning Maiden. (Irony I guess) They discovered the secret passage to the Nevermore and quickly dealt with the Grey Ooze. Then came the Splatterman. The Haunt was dealt with quickly, but the walls crumbled onto our heros as the Splatterman rose from his watery grave. The alchemist was able to quickly dispose of his summoned rats with a well placed bomb. However none of them could stand before the might of his empowered magic-missiles. Lacking the hero points to survive Splatterman was able to destroy the pesky thorn in his side and take his revenge upon the town.

An interesting result of the above TPK: run Carrion Crown as a series of mini-series. :)

Why would a wolve shapechange into a human? Wolves are much more awesome than humans (at least according to the wolves).

It makes it a lot easier to order a Pina Colada at Trader Vic's.

I suppose it would make grooming easier too.

Name: Sir Ourc VonSmashing
Race: Orc
Classes/levels: Cavalier (Order of the Sword)12

Catalyst: Hold Person & Death Stealing Gazes

The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
After discovering Radvir Giovanni had been orchestrating both the murders of Vampire elders, fomenting rebellion of spawn, and selling bloodbrew elixer to the human nobility as well the adventuring band known as the Redeemers of Shadow stealthily entered the basement level of Radvir's Tailor shop. The dhampir ninja ghost stepped into the room and unbarred the door (he had a darkness spell on him at the time rendering him invisible thanks to his ring of the darkhidden). As the group stormed in the vampire enforcers called out alerting Radvir to the intrusion. One enforcer escaped the initial onslaught turning into gaseous form and moving upstairs to summon the nabassu in the warehouse.

After defeating the remaining three enforcers one of the nabassu teleported into the room unleashing its death stealing gaze. Shaking off the negative energies the Ranger, Inquisitor, and Cavalier quickly made short work of the demon. However it was enough time for Radvir to prepare and his spawn stormed out of the dye room and the two remaining nabassu provided defense for the vampire master.

Sir Ourc VonSmashing quickly fell victim to the nabassu's hold person, mass, the Ranger Airalis was dominated by the remaining enforcer and ordered to defend the coffin room taking him out of the fight. Vikas of Gorum, bane blade and judgements activated waded into the vampires attacking all who passed through the door. The ninja provided ranged support with invisible silver shuriken flurries. Pulling rear guard the half elf Bbn/Master Chymist took out the final enforcer at the rear with Raven's Head utterly destroying him. However the Alchemist had been driven psychotic by the otherworldly creatures encountered in Illmarsh and used this opportunity to let enemies kill off his fellow Redeemers!

Vikas of Gorum surrounded on all sides by spawn, being singled out by Radvir's energy draining scarf attacks and the repeated gazes fell, Sir Ourc held the entire time became a ghoul under the demons control. The ninja Arach and the Doctor knew without the Ranger and with their two main warriors down the battle was lost... in fact if it were not for the Fates intervening (a Harrow card being played) the Alchemist nearly lost his head to a vicious attack by Radvirs deadly scarf (Decapitation crit card on a 20-20-confirm).

Thus the orc blooded members of the group fell and the elf ranger was left behind as thrall to Radvir, tailor of death!

Wow. Now what is your group going to do?

Sovereign Court

Well it seems the Alchemist, Ninja, and the Kellid Barbarian (who missed the session) are going to track the Vampires to the Abbey by casting locate person on the Archer and rescuing him. They're also getting help from the Temple of Pharasma with a new Cleric character (the inquistor's player) and an Oracle (the cavalier's player).

Sovereign Court

Well I have been gaming with King of Vrok for many many years now and honestly the death of multiple party members in a single evening is usually one of the best nights of our campaign. We always bounce back and the Ninja of the group was still working his advantage to win the day. It wasnt until the the demons used their summoning power that changed his mind!

Name: Arach Deadeye (aka Larry Katus)
Race: dhampir
Classes/levels: Ninja 9/Shadowdancer 3
Adventure: Ashes at Dawn
Location: F30: Meditation Hall
Catalyst: Black Tentacles

The Gory Details:
After infiltrating the dungeon below the Abbey of Sainte-Lyramin the Redeemers of Shadow defeated Radvir, his spawn, and the vampire Paladin Hallorah Idriss. However in their haste they left their rear exposed by not clearing the upper floors of the Abbey (a repeating mistake for this group of head hunters).

Hetna Dublesse, warned telepathically buy one of Oothi's swarms sends her charmed guards, and the Glabrezu Dolthysuun into the smugglers tunnels following them invisibly. The battle between the witch and demon took out all but one of the heroes until they brokered a deal with the spirit nagas seeking Oothis return. Betrayed Hetna retreated to her sister and the Blood Knight in the Meditation chamber. Her hexes and charms were enough to force the archer and barbarian to fall back after defeating the Blood Knight, but the Master Chymist and Ninja pushed on.

The ninja used the MiGo mist projector trying to kill the hidden Aisa from afar, but she turned his plan about by countering with a cloudkill. The frail ninja able to see through the mists (thanks to a Goz mask found in the MiGo dome) directed the Mutagenic Chymist to trap the witch in a corner while he sniped with shuriken from the clouds. But Aisa once again had enough room to unleash her black tentacles on them. The strangling spell eventually crushed the ninja to a pulp while the hulking Chymist finished the witch.

Name:Aiden
Race: Human
Classes/levels: Fighter (Archer) 8
Adventure: Broken Moon
Location: Feldgrau Tower
Catalyst: Auren Vrood
The Gory Details: Nothing fancy here, he just happened to roll a one on his save vs. Circle of Death. Cinematically, he shoved Raknar out of the way of the death magic, taking the full force of its power and dropping lifelessly to the ground as the combat begun.

Name: Nuuri
Race: Human
Classes/levels: Ranger 11
Adventure: Ashes at Dawn
Location: The Abbey of Sante-Lymirin Winery
Catalyst: Witchfire
The Gory Details: The group selected the room as their base of operations and Nuuri tasted the wine from the barrels when the group suddenly faced the three witchefire. The battle seemed at first to be fairly easy (HUGE damage from the Rangers), but at some point, three out of four people were wrapped in green fire and as a Nuuri killed one witchfire, the other two focused on Nuuri. A critical hit later Nuuri lay dead with severe burns to the ground.

Name: Arthima
Race: Human
Classes/levels: Barbarian 1
Adventure: Carrion Crown Adventure Path: Book 1; Haunting of Harrowstone
Location: Town of Ravengo
Catalyst: friend being attacked by other PC

Name: Dredd
Race: Half-Orc
Classes/levels: Inquisitor of Phrasma 1
Adventure: Carrion Crown Adventure Path: Book 1; Haunting of Harrowstone
Location: Town of Ravengo
Catalyst: Kills above PC

The Gory Details:

Alright so to begin a few days before the deaths we have our Barbarian Arthima going to Harrowstone.... Alone...

She had a house fall on her. When she returns to town the party is still researching and wonders why her arm is broken and why she’s all bloodied up. So yes we have a not very vital Barbarian. The day after that she goes and scares some kids singing the skipping song. So she’s called several names by the party and has decided that she wants to kill her character off. Well the day of her actual death she goes back to Harrowstone and is attacked by 2 rat swarms successfully killing both, but not before contracting filth fever.

That night a group of traveling bards shows up and I start the Stirge random encounter to where our Gunslinger Catfolk is sitting on a roof and is being attacked by 3 striges(I upped the number because I have a 5-6 person party at any given night).

So he runs down to Inquisitor Dredd freaking out about the attack, and is basically just jesterring and making some weird noises. Well our inquisitor thinks he is drunk so he punches him..... Well this starts a 15 second fist fight which ends with catfolk Shilt being knocked out.

Well his best friend Arthima the barbarian is coming to the party after getting bored watching the Harrowstone monument that night. She arrives just in time to see the fight and watch Dredd take Shilt back home. Well after he leaves the town square Arithma drop kicks him. His response, he takes the cat and flings it at her which of course misses. After about 3 or 4 rounds the barbarian in unconscious and Dredd takes her to the river where he plans to throw her in in order to "sober up'.

Well as you can imagine she fails both con saves and before dredd can get her out she dies. So dredd decides in retribution for his sins to commit seppuku and just kills himself with his falchion.

So my party had to deaths before even entering the main building of harrowstone.

This occured during a side trek - my party finished Wake of the Watcher at 12th level, and went on a side trip to fight a hag coven. Specifically, the changeling cleric's mom and aunts. Which I made a L13 cleric, a L13 witch, and a L13 anti-paladin, with the simple advanced template and maximum hitpoints.

Name: Caelnin
Race: Elf
Classes/levels: Alchemist (Chirurgeon) 12
Adventure: Side trip after Wake of the Watcher
Location: A despoiled grove in the Versex swamplands.
Catalyst: Mommy Hag the L13 Cleric (named Asterada)

The Gory Details: This was pretty straight forward. The party came in invisible from above, finding the Hags, their guards (including a vrock, an athatch, and some other critters), and the Hags prisoners. The hags with their extremely high perception checks noticed the invisible PCs, and we rolled initiative.

Caelnin, for his opening acts, chucks over 130 points of bomb damage into the hag witch, almost immediately dropping her.

Astereda finally got to go (2 of the 3 hags bombed initiative rolls), announced "you're a bit stronger than I was expecting" (She'd taunted her changeling daughter in a dream vision the night before) and cast destruction at the alchemist. Despite being under the effects of Good Fortune, he still failed his save and died.

The party carried out the rest of the battle without further loses, but it was definitely an eye opener for them.

Desna's rather attached to the party, so the party will be able to find a cleric who can put Cael back together.

Damn Trial of the Beast is lethal:

Name: Urhgan
Race: Orc (wearing a hat of disguise to make him look human)
Classes/levels: Fighter (Two-handed) 6
Adventure: Trial of the beast
Location: 1st Level of the tower
Catalyst: Guardian of the tower and some unlucky damage rolls
The group was clearing out the schloss without too much issue until they came across the final tower. Deciding to break in using the fighter lockpick method the Guardian was alerted and had a readied action to attack when the door was opened.

Usually the first one in was the tower shield fighter but since he had fallen into every trap in the flooded lab he elected to go last this time. Urhgan walked in first and received a claw to the face.

Both Urghan and the dwarf held the line with the cleric channeling as best she could while the alchemist and gunslinger tried to lay waste to the golem. Some poor rolling from urghan had him miss every strike against the Guardian and after two claws brought him down to 1 hp the maximum damage rend coupled with some con loss from an earlier battle spelled the end for the big orc.

However his sacrifice gave the party a chance to finish off the golem and eventually make their way up to finally defeat the promethean and end the threat at the schloss.

Wouldn't it seem more realistic to make a list using a bunch of real Romanian or other Eastern European names -- very easy to find online. The guards who die are likely all Ustlavian and should all have standard Ustlavian names, while using the names listed here will add up to a pretty weird looking list.

Adventure: Broken Moon

Catalyst: The Song of the Weaverworm.
Song. “Pretty. I want to go to there.” (chomp slash slash) Owww….

I just ran that encounter too!

Details:
If not for the bard in the party using countersong, three out of five PCs were walking straight towards the Weaverworm, and that thing's paralytic nails are no joke.

Rakshaka wrote:

** spoiler omitted **

spoiler:
I'm about to run it. I assume it can use its nails over and over, even though the paralysis is described as resulting from the nails breaking off and remaining in the wound? The nails regenerate I guess?

That encounter:
Yeah, the things nails just grow back after it breaks one off. That's potentially two paralysis saves a round, every round it's in melee.
I kind of expanded it a little and added an Advanced Ettercap riding an Ogre Spider and a Giant Ettercap mate for the Weaverworm. I've got 5 PCs (one of whom is an Oracle who can spam Remove Paralysis), so it felt fair. And again, the Bard nerfed the Weaver's Song, letting the Magus blast her at ranged with scorching rays.

Regarding the weaverworm encounter:

Spoiler:
the statblock for the Weaverworm is incorrect as published. See the Broken Moon sticky thread at the top of the forum for the corrected stats.

Name: Rhin
Race: Halfling
Classes/levels: Sorcerer 1
Adventure: Haunting of Harrowstone
Location: Lorrimor Estate - Backyard
Catalyst: A tree and a request from Kendra
The Gory Details: Rhin had been attempting flirt with Kendra and asked what he could do to help her around the residence. She decided that the fence behind the estate could use rebuilding and told Rhin so. So off he went to rebuild her fence. Being a halfling he had great difficulty with this task. While moving to retrieve supplies to start work he walked under a tree at just the time a branch broke and fell during a gust of wind. The branch landed on him causing significant damage to him and rendering him unconscious. Unable to cry out for help he succumbed to his injuries. It was a week until the other members of the party realized he was missing (they all easily missed seeing him even when he was alive) and found him in the backyard. Rhin is now buried in the Restlands following a proper funeral for him. Inquires have been made through the church as to his homeland so that he can one day be returned to his loved ones.

Wait did you kill a player with a falling branch?

Why?

Silver Crusade

Name: Mikko Afrento
Race: Half Elf
Classes/levels: Summoner 2
Adventure: Haunting of Harrowstone
Location: Harrowstone - hallway to the north of the foyer
Catalyst: Wandering off due to boredom
The Gory Details: Mikko had grown bored waiting in the auditorium while the rest of the party planned out what they were going to do. So he broke out the Spirit Planchette and started asking questions. Of course the answers freaked him out for a short bit. Ever the ADHD character he quickly recovered and decided to go exploring. He left the party only to encounter The Lopper moving about hunting for him. He and his Eidolon rapidly lost their heads to his ax and were later found by the party when they tripped over him in the dark.

The player was having to leave the game due to a change in his work schedule and would not able to return for the foreseeable future.

Ah, gotcha.

Seems like it could've made a good way to make the whole "dead coming back" theme slightly more personal too, but I don't know how far you were exactly.
