Crafting question

Rules Questions

So, I'm looking at making an crafter type character, want to make potions and whatnot. I see that brewing a potion (assuming I have the Brew Potion feat) (under 250 GP) takes 2 hours, that's not bad, can make a potion each evening if I have the resources.

What about non-magical stuff, like antitoxin, alchemist fire, etc, etc? I read up on the Crafting skil for these and I'm either reading this totally wrong or something doesn't make sense. Take Antitoxin, for example. It says to multiple to take its value in silver (50 gp = 500 silver) and multiply this by its DC (25)...so that's 6,500.

Make a craft check...okay, for the sake of "simple" numbers, lets say I have a skill of 10 and I roll a 10, total of 20.

Multiply that number by the DC (25), so that's...500.

This is the progress you make IN A WEEK towards creating the item. I have to get to 6,500??? So it will take 13 weeks at this rate to create a SINGLE dose of Antitoxin, a item worth a whopping 50 gold pieces?

Am I reading this right? Am I doing something wrong with my math? This seems TOTALLY WORTHLESS. Your crafter type, if he wanted to help the party out during some downtime, would need MONTHS, if not YEARS, to make enough things to be helpful to the group.

Please tell me I'm overlooking some significant detail here.

You're overlooking a significant detail here. :)

Take the item's price in silver pieces - in this case, 500.

Your progress in one week's worth of work is your roll times the DC. Let's say you could hit a DC 25 when taking 10. In one week, then, you'd make:

DC * Check Result = Weekly Progress in SP
25 * 25 = 625 SP of progress

625 is greater than 500, so it takes you a little under a week to make a single dose of antitoxin.

if you want to make alchemical items like that its still worth it at level 5 you get alchemist master or somehting, which allows you to make it without multiplying tour gold cost by 10 to get the amount in silvers.

so if it cost 10 gold and you do a check at lv 5 you have at least 10 to 15 points in alchmey so take a 10 to make vial of acid thats equals

15+10= 25x15(DC not sure) = 375 (your progress in one week)

375/7(days)=53 per day so you can make 5 per day that feat is crazy good.

Ah, there's the part that I totally misread...I was multiplying the items value in silver times the DC, to get the number you had to reach with you roll x the DC. So my 6,500 figure becomes 500 instead, MUCH more attainable.

And yes, Master Alchemist makes a HUGE difference as well, that's for sure!!!

Thanks for getting my brain straight...

The master alchemist thing is very handy

Additionally, be aware that you can voluntarily increase the DC of the item being crafted by 10. This speeds up the crafting times as well as you multiply your result roll by the now increased DC.

You may voluntarily add +10 to the indicated DC to craft an item. This allows you to create the item more quickly (since you’ll be multiplying this higher DC by your Craft check result to determine progress). You must decide whether to increase the DC before you make each weekly or daily check.

I did not factor this in when I first took a hard look at crafting, but it actually makes crafting things much more attainable.

Let's assume you bumped up the antitoxin's DC. The anti-toxin's DC is 35 now so if you rolled a total of 35 to meet the DC, you'd end up with 1225 "points" that week, so when your skills get up there you'll be pumping these things out.
