Advice

I'm in the midst of in-between-modules downtime and looking to spend some loot on new magic items but am a little underwhelmed by the options. Sure, a handy haversack with an assortment of scrolls and wands is always good to have on hand and AC or saving throw enhancers are a must, but I'm looking for something that will improve my spellcasting on a continuing basis. So far, the only such item I've found is a headband of alluring charisma; which is great but I already have the best available; a +6 version.

Anything from Pathfinder and possibly 3.5 sources is fair game. So what are your suggestions? Which item(s) makes for a great sorcerer?

Meta-magic rods are always incredibly useful. They allow you to use a metamagic feat without having it and I don't think it increases the casting time. Meta-magic rod of persistant spell is always nice. Make 2 saving throws!

Metamagic rods do increase casting time.

"A sorcerer must still take a full-round action when using a metamagic rod, just as if using a metamagic feat he possesses (except for quicken matamagic rods, which can be used as a swift action)." - Core Rulebook p.484

Ok, I wasn't sure because I don't have my book in front of me. But they're still worth it. Meta-magic feat three times per day. I know one of the people I play with uses Glitterdust and his Persistant Spell Metamagic rod to no end.

A Bead of Karma from a Strand of Prayer Beads give a +4 caster level for 10 minutes, once per day. You'll need to get around the divine caster restriction through Use Magic Device. Costs 20,000gp, which is a bargain for what it does.

I agree that metamagic rods are great. In fact, I really like Craft Rod as a Sorcerer feat, since you don't actually need any metamagic feats as prerequisites (just add +5 to the Spellcraft DC when crafting the item). Make whatever metamagic rods you'd like for half the cost of buying them (and, if you're like me, you'll want a lot of them).

An Arcane Sorcerer player in one of my games made excellent use of "Robes of Arcane Heritage" from the APG.

They let you treat your level as 4 higher for all bloodline powers and their effects.

You could also pick up an ioun stone (orange, prism) 30,000 gp market price for a +1 to your Caster Level.

Whoa.. thats awesome. From srd:

"These elegant, dark purple and royal blue robes are usually decorated with gold stitching depicting a sorcerer bloodline, though some indicate a family tree. The stitching changes to match the sorcerer bloodline of the wearer. The wearer treats her sorcerer level as 4 higher than normal for the purpose of determining what bloodline powers she can use and their effects."

That means you can get those powers 4 levels earlier, and is very powerful. I'm currently playing a Fey blooded sorcerer in Kingmaker at level 13. Putting these on will instantly give me the ablity to reroll spell resistance checks at will, and will give me the end cap ablity which includes dr/10 cold iron at level 16. Nice.

Ring of Wizardry (I, II, III and IV) double the number of spells per day you can cast before adding in high stat modifiers.

The level III and IV ones are particularly terrifying...

Runestaves, from the Magic Item Compendium, and Knowstones, from Dragon 333 are nice Sorcerer items from 3.5.

Memento Magica, from Races of the Dragon, are kinda pricy, but could be worth it if you only pay crafter prices for them.

Holy excrement! I just noticed that spontaneous casters can benefit from the rings now! :D

Runestaves are good, +1 for them.

You've noticed most of the go-to items already, so start looking at wondrous items as a way to broaden your spell list. For example, boots of speed are essentially a haste spell for you. Likewise Cape of the Mountebank for dimension door, carpet of flying, etc.

Tunic of steady spellcasting or artificer's monocle are good 3.5 items as well.

Well, if you're looking for more spell uses per day, pearls of power (or perhaps rings of spell storing) can grant those to you. A ring of counterspells let you store one spell in it and the next time the spell is cast on you it is immediately countered.

Since you mentioned a magical container, note that the everfull quiver allows you to draw the wands you've stored inside of it as a free action.

Rings of Sustenance allow you to regain your arcane spells with only 2 hours of rest.

If you're fond of playing a blast mage, a ring of energy resistance might let you cast spells at ground zero with a little bit more impunity (such as detonate)

Actually, Pearls of Power don't help. They let you recall prepared spells. Since the sorcerer doesn't prepare spells, they can't be recalled, and they can't even UMD for a recall since there's nothing to recall.

Excellent avatar choice, by the way.

By the way, I always keep thinking that metamagic rods are a little too powerful. Do any other items out there give you a feat for free (I don't count Weapon Focus or Dodge, because those feats still stack with attack/AC bonuses.)

Know stones from 3.5

Allowed you to keep up with wizards, as you could have more and more spells "known" as you collected the little charms.

If you or your DM has access to Sins of the Saviors (book 5 from Rise of the Runelords) you could get a runic tattoo. There aren't any regulations on what can or cannot be made into a rune, so treat it like a wondrous item that can't be taken off.

Also, from the Rival Guide the one elf wizard has metamagic stones or something like that. Check'em out.

Well looking at 3.5 there is a whole smorgasbord of stuff starting with the perennial favorite Belt of Battle (Gives you extra actions) and continuing on to the Bloodclaw Choker and Barbs of Retribution (Sacrifice HP to recall spell slots or force rerolls on saves) from the Magic Item Compendium, and since they are a set you get a +2 Con from using both of them. I am also a fan of the Impervious Vestments (36,000gp and you get a CL18 Blade Barrier 1/day and +5 AC)

"The power of a special bead is lost if it is removed from the strand."

You can't buy or have just the bead of karma, you need the standard strand, right?
