Question about monster saves

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

I am reading through the bestiary and noticed that a number og abilities and such things that the monsters use have saves. It will say something like this, "dealing 3d6 points of damage in a 20 foot line (reflex DC 17 half). The save DC is constitution based."

So this ability has a reflex save with a DC 17 to half the damage. Then it says it is constitution based. I thought reflex saves were based on dexterity. What dose it mean that the save is constitution based?

It says DC not save bonus (what PC would roll). Thus only DC is affected. Thus if you increase Con of monster (more than listed), the DC will go up.

Exactly. So, let's say you have a monster that has a breath weapon which allows a DC 16 Reflex Save for half damage. The description says 'The DC is Con based'.

If you apply a template to the monster that increases it's Constitution by 4 pts, then the save for it's breath weapon becomes 18 (16 + 2 from Con Boost).

This is especially fun when, for instance, you add a few (Fighter) class levels to a Pixie and drop the +4 into Charisma. :)
