Inquisitors of Nethys

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

What exactly do inquisitors of nethys do? I was looking over Inquisitors to make an NPC when it struck me that some gods don't seem to have much inquisition based needs. Particularly nethys, as from what I see in gods and magic, his tenants are "Use Magic!!". What would inquisitors do? Thaey don't have a reason to punish abuses of magic, Nethys himself is the biggest abuser. Do they hunt people down and force them to study cantrips?

I imagine they hunt and destroy those who oppose magic and its use. Or in certain good aligned churches they do exactly as you might expect adn deal with evil spellcasters.

That actually sounds interesting. BBEG is researching a new spell, and asks the church of nethys for protection. They send some inquisitor bodyguards who keep BBEG from being smited and then take home a copy of the completed spell.

@Brambleman: I like that adventure hook, could be very fun.

Other stuff an inquisitor of Nethys could do, related to his class:
-Join a society of mages
-Support a magocracy (similar to above?)
-Guard magically important sites
-Try to get rid of the Mana Wastes/protect casters from it
-Educate people on the uses of magic/preach about Nethys (especially in the "uncivilized regions"
-Avenge mages killed by monsters/people
-Defend *their* sect's ideas about magic/Nethys/role of the church
-Seek alliances with other magically inclined churches (Asmodeus, Urgathoa, minor gods, etc.)
-Establish new temples of Nethys
-Try to create a balance between creation and destruction

And of course these are just ideas that center around your character's class as their motivation. You can always have some based on race, love life, family, greed, regret, atonement, revenge, etc.

Shadow Lodge

I imagine that they're of two minds about the proper use of magic.

They are very well trained and indoctrinated in the proper, orderly use of magic, but then through a ritual scarification process, they also learn to embrace the dark, destructive force of magic.

In any such situation involving magic, they flip a coin to choose which side to take.

Hunt those that abuse magic?
