Do you refer to Pathfinder as D&D?

My group calls it Pathfinder exclusively. Two of us have been playing since the late 70's, the rest since the 80's. We've always referred to the edition we're playing by its number or name (D&D, AD&D, 2-Ee, 3-0h, 3-five, etc.)

Did anyone notice that in the new product discriptions Paizo products now say "compatible witht the world's oldest role playing game" as oppossed to "the world's best selling roleplaying game" ?

This civilized thread was way too civilized.

That's a weird philosophy... So is 2E and 3E no longer D&D? Just because the game jumped editions doesn't mean the previous ones are no longer D&D...

As such, I've never really thought about it before... We skipped 3rd edition, and have been playing 2E for most our careers. So making THAT jump is a COMPLETLY new set of rules and a WHOLE new game. Add in the fact that we have ZERO interest in what I've heard about 4E...

Thus we usually say D&D or Faerun game... or mention the groups title like Champions of the Red Dawn (CoRD for short) when we mean the Saturday game... and Pathfinder (or Runelords or Serpent Skull) when we mean the tuesday game...

However... Yeah, The game involving Fighters and mages casting magic missles against the dragons and zombies... Yeah, I still THINK of it as D&D.

The 6 stats, the familiar spells, It's really D&D in my mind. It's just a whole new world. When compared to World of Darkness... or floating vagabond... or the 80's marvel super heroes game... Pathfinder has a lot more similiarities to D&D then it does a game all it's own..

I mostly just refer to it as D&D as well, though occasionally I'll say, "Well, Pathfinder," afterwards. But, considering I'm still using a heavy dose of 3.5 stuff anyway, it might as well be the same thing (and it is).

Phantom, old school player that you are, have you seen this site?

It is D&D, every d20/3.5 OGL compatible book is. Did we say 'Im playing Mongoose' or 'Lets play some Arcana Evolved'. No we played and are still playing D&D. It went through another 3.0 to 3.5 phase, but its still D&D. The best D&D so far, imo. (But I still play the classic settings with the Pathfinder rulebooks)

I'm so used to playing DnD that I call almost every game DnD. I have to force myself to say "Alternity," "Mutants and Masterminds," "Pathfinder," "Marvel Super Heroes," "Gamma World," or any of the other systems I like. To fellow gamers, I don't think it matters. To non-gamers it's just easier to say "DnD" if I'm not playing a board or video game.

Yes, I call Pathfinder D&D. Unless the person knows exactly what the difference is, it would just be confusing otherwise.

Yeah, I still call it D&D.

I always call it Pathfinder, but that's mainly because in the groups I tend to frequent when you say "D&D" they immediately assume that you eat demons for breakfast. If they ask "What's that?" I just tell them it's a role-playing game where we do drama and acting.

(BTW, I'm not saying I DON'T eat demons for breakfast.)

Is that so? I think you may have gotten that backwards.
