New Archetypes for old Characters

I am almost certain I have seen this question before, but I wasn't able to find it easily. One of my regular players asked what the rules were, if any, for applying one of the new archetypes from Ultimate Magic to their current 9th level character.

I am almost certain that applying that is not within the PFS rules, but I wanted to confirm it for him.

If the first alternate ability replaces a class ability granted at 10th or higher level, he can add the archetype after character creation. If, however, there are any swapped abilities granted before 9th level, that archetype may not be retroactively added to the PC.

Alright, thanks for the response.

I was curious, does this also apply to the Paladin "oaths" from ultimate magic?

Could a higher-level paladin "swear an oath" and then change the associated class features, or would the character need to swear the oath before any obtaining any class features?
