Could someone who is familiar with animal companions possibly take a look at mine for me to make sure I did it all right? I'd appreciate it. I'm going to be working on her appearance and background here shortly.
OK, I think I've got her finished up. Submitting Krisaga for DMZZ's approval for the HoL campaign.
A quick question: Since she's starting at level 8, how would I go about getting her animal companion more tricks to cover for the time she would have spent training her between levels 1 and 8?
Krisaga - on the tricks, an animal with Intelligence 2 can learn up to 6 tricks normally - then you get to add on 3 'bonus' tricks from your Druid levels.
So the wee beastie should have a total of nine tricks learnt.
Ok you might need to detail the final armour class & saves etc.
On my profile you will find Cedrick, Alcheringa, Grim Dougal, Harry, Bloodless all have animal companions, you can copypasta any of those formats too if you want - kep point is to have all the HP/AC/Saves as well as your attacks all well laid out.
OK, I found the tricks on d20pfsrd.com and adjusted the numbers of attacks etc. to include all modifiers. I did a bit of reorganizing as well. How does it look now?
So, is HoL leveling to 9? Should I change my sheet to 9?
Animal Companions were given a makeover in the Animal Archive.
The problem with animals is that if you want your AC to intimidate it has to know the skill, and be trained to perform the trick on command. It has control of its Feats however.
The Handle Animal skill from the CRB has the Attack trick, and you need to take it twice really (for unusual targets ie undead etc).
I counted attack as two, so should I add all next to it as you have? I didn't see "intimidate" on the list but saw "menace" which appears to be intimidate, no? I exchanged Guard for Track. Everything look OK now?
What should the hit points be? I'm not use to working with multiple hit die. I was under the impression that I roll the number of hit die it listed for each level and add the constitution modifier for each die.
The modifier still works like that - each HD would generate 1d8+3 - although Companions have their own oddball progression system, so they start strong then fall a little behind, having only 8 dice at 9th level.
Ok, see I'm use to each level up you roll the hit die and that value to the existing value. So basically, instead, she starts out with hit points that would be equal to a level two, and then by level 9 she has hit points that would be equal to a level 8. So when she hits a level that has the same number of HD as the one previous, she simply doesn't gain any HP for that level. Then when she hits the next level with more HD, she would gain HP equivalent to the number of HD difference between the previous and the new? Such as going from 8 to 9, the HD changes from 7 to 8, so she gets to roll one d8 for more HP, but had it stayed a 7, she wouldn't gain any HP?
I'll do the level up here shortly after I post for my Eberron campaign. FYI I'm sick as all hell right now and am moving/thinking slow so it may be a bit. I spent most of the day in and out of sleep on my couch while my kid climbed on me.
HP 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
BAB +6, Fort +6, Ref +6
1 skill rank
Natural armor +6
Str/dex bonus +3
1 more bonus trick
Multiattack
Ability Score Increase: Intelligence
Do I need to make Handle Animal rolls for her new bonus trick? Is the rule 3 tricks (excluding bonus tricks) per level of intelligence? I raised her intelligence this level from a 2 to a 3, does that mean she can have 9 tricks (excluding bonus tricks)?
Follow Victor to the sacred place,
This ain't a dream, I can't escape,
Molars and fangs, the clicking of bones,
Spirits moaning among the tombstones,
And the night, when the moon is bright,
Someone cries, something ain't right.
Heading away this Friday (Yay, Happy Valentines or something) and will be gone for two weeks, 14-28 Feb. Not sure how much/if any net access I will get, but it will likely be pretty minimal – will try pop in when I can to post an update (or the odd “Yay team!”).
I should get a chance for a few updates before I jet off though.
Already follow it! If anyone wants to deal with my crazy antics on facebook I can be found here. Just send me a message identifying yourself if you choose to add me because I tend to avoid names I don't recognize.
I'm taking a few translation odd-end jobs and studying for some Cambridge English proficiency certificate so I can get a full job so I can finally move in with the miss. Nothing as exciting as battling the native fauna of Australia, but that's how I roll.
