Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Some more infos on the campaign:

We will start on level 1 and use medium progression (as always).
We will build characters via the usual Zyren method (4d6X7 drop lowest dice in each roll and drop the lowest sum. Summation of all rolls must exceed 75).

I'll let you choose which adventure you want to begin with:

Hangman's Noose: Urban adventure set in Absalom (a bit of horror, too)

Into the haunted forest: Wilderness adventure (quite short and very introductory)

Crypt of the Everflame: Dungeon adventure, about a young group of villagers coming of age.

Master of the fallen fortress: Also dungeon oriented, set in Absalom, so a bit urban too.

The Godsmouth Heresy: Also a dungeon adventure, set iN aker Maga, bit creepy bit urban.

As I said before, I want this campaign to be a "real" Pathfinder campaign, so characters will become members of the (ingame) Pathfinder society after this first adventure, maybe you should bear that in mind when creating a character. Then just tell me how your concepts would look like and what adventure you would prefer. Decide in old-school fashion, look at the cover and pick one :)

Once we have a majority who agree on one of the adventures, we will either convince the others to join us (until there are 6) or I'll open a recruitment thread. Please, only apply if you can regularly manage one post per day at least (better are two).

Hmm - looks like I'll have to grab Dark Markets then, fill in some detail for the new Zolurketians.

DM VoV:

Sounds good - I read over the recruitment thread. I know very little about the martial arts in RL, so I doubt that I can add too many colorful comments in that area. But using the PF rules, should be able to have fun creating an interesting monk. I should have something put together by later today(either a modified Frakdar, or a new monk) - probably before you log on tomorrow morning. I will post the character link here at the campfire under a spoiler for you.

True and I find Companions can be really weak sometimes- Humans of Golarian?

I'm much happier with the chronicles/campaign setting stuff. There are some editing problems with Dark Markets and some stuff has been changed from 3.5 (I liked pesh better when it gave you hps. that really had the PCs interested in using it with interesting results : ) ) but it's full of great background material and adventure ideas. I highly recommend it.

Don't listen to VooDoo - the way things are going our whole party is going to be hopped up on pesh and sold as dog meat or dog toys before long. (Other than this his campaign is a lot of fun.)

Scarab Sages

male 1/4 Elf Lorekeeper???

My adventure of coice would be Hangmans Noose, Crypt of the Everflame being a close second (possibly with another concept, though). If Into the Hauted Forest gets chosen, I will pass, because I already mastered that one thrice...

Very Basic Concept:

Spoiler:
Rogue (possibly survivalist archetype) or ranger, more or less a real explorer, dreaming of great discoveries, eager to be part of the pathfinders, academy/pathfinder trained (in that case young and a bit naive) or veteran of a few caravan guardruns (a tad older, dissatisfied with following all the known roads, looking for the thrill of new ways)
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6, 1) = 10=9
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 1, 1) = 9=**

4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 3) = 18=12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 5, 6) = 17=15

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Good to see things begin to roll. As far as I have understood Bilbo, he will keep track of your votes and maybe also ideas. (that is why he will start with 20Xp!)...rofl...

Into the haunted forest thrice? Isn't it ruined after you know the riddles?

I was the gamemaster thrice, each time with a different group - it is a great adventure for newbys after all...

Don't really know anything about the modules but I'd probably say Hangman's Noose followed by The Godsmouth Heresy, just based on the name really.

I'd love to join, I'm not particular about the module for I know it'll be awesome either way.

Any chance I could be a goblin gunslinger, or would I be KOS?

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Sable:

Good question, I think it depends on the group and the modules. Personally I wouldn't mind a goblin, but I will try to keep the world realistic, so while it wouldn't be a problem in kaer Maga it could be your death in Sandpoint...playing a gunslinger is totally ok with me.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

@ Sable: And, are you going to bid on any of the ebay items?

Btw. Why didn't you join Robin's ROTRL campaign? Quinton looked like an interesting character concept.

M Golden God 13 Student / 8 Bard

Zyren:

My preferences are as follows:

1. Godsmouth Herecy
2. Crypt of the Everflame
3. Into the Haunted Forest
4. Master of the Fallen Fortress

I have some characters already built, but I suppose a new one would be best? Any specific class needed or are you going to decide based on what applications you get?

Here are some rolls just in case...

4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 6) = 21=>17
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 4) = 17=>16
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 6) = 14=>13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 2) = 7=>6x
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 6) = 22=>17
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5, 6) = 16=>15
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 3, 3) = 10=>9
=>87

Male Wandering Nomad 3

Rolling for ability scores...

4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 5) = 21 16
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3, 1) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 4, 5) = 16 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6, 4) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 6) = 15 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5, 4) = 16 15
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 1) = 11 10

Drop the 9, right, so the total is 80. I'll work with those for now :) I'm thinking a soldier, maybe starting as paladin or like dipping into it at one point.

@ T-Ron: Since the others weren't very specific with their classes by now, you can choose freely I think. You can also use a character you have already made and would like to play, just check that you use the statistics you rolled.

Had the time today to update all campaign logs. Should you ever find that someone is missing-an important hook or character, don't hesitate to tell me.

off for today, for those who would like to join the new campaign, maybe you could already think about what classes would fit well into your new party etc. Maybe two of you even develop a perfect concept for two characters that know each other already etc.

Not certain, but I think I would like to play an Oracle (Outer Rifts) in ZZs new campaign. Not sure about the race - possibly Tiefling or Celestial - depends on what alignment I decide, possibly some other race as well.

I have no preferences for what module I'd want to run around in. I haven;t run in any. I suppose if anything I'll run with an Ulfen Evangelist of Gorum as I've been itching to play one in forever. Be as viking and as metal as possible. Let me go ahead and make soem rolls here. Granted this route means I will not be healing. Alternatively I could go the death metal route and do Urgathoa.

How does zyren typically roll stats again?

Hahaha. I am already putting together the updates to the list.

Male Wandering Nomad 3

Zyen, how do you feel about Hobgoblins as an option? I was thinking about writing up a Magus that will go Dragon Disciple at 6th level--basically a Hobgoblin runaway who infiltrated and adapted to civilized society (joining the Pathfinders) in order to research and hopefully understand his draconic ancestry?

EDIT: Reading back, I see that Sable is hoping to play a goblin. Maybe it would make sense for his character and mine to already know each other, being of similar race in similar situations?

Male Wandering Nomad 3

@TarkXT

You do 7 sets of 4d6, dropping the lowest roll of each one to make 7 ability scores, then the highest 6 numbers are your stats.

@Modules

I don't know any of them, so I have no preference. Urban and Absalom sounds fun, though, so I guess I'd have Hangman's Noose, but I'm not super set on it.

Think I will go for a wizard or witch. I have played frontliners for the last 18 years and this is the first time I have tromped into the wand and pointy hand land, haha. So far I am enjoying the stay with Perdition.

Sable (Goblin Gunslinger?) No pref

Feytharn (Rogue or Ranger) 1 Hangman's Noose, 2 Everflame , [Out if Haunted Forest]

garabbot (Hobgob Magus or Paladin) No pref

Poor Wandering One

Still awaiting some of the others who voiced interest.
Hangman's Noose 3
Godsmouth 1

Hangman's and Godsmouth seem to be the two that have the most votes so far, so it might help to decide between the two.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Hmm I'm pretty open.

I have a preference for Urban campaigns, and am a fan of the dark and nasty. On that basis I presume Hangman.

I also pick character concepts once the background is known to ensure 'fit' (and to avoid disappointment!).

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Crypt of the Everflame looks interesting. Anything but Fallen Fortress is good with me as I am just finishing it up. Not that I would not play it again as the last DM did such a poor job that it will probably be entirely new.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

DMZZ:

Considering Tiefling(Demon-Spawn) with alternate fiendish traits:

Alternate Abilities Rolls:
1d100 ⇒ 3 - You enjoy being cut. The first time each day you take slashing damage, you gain a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls for the following round.

1d100 ⇒ 9 - You gain an additional +2 racial bonus on your Charisma.

1d100 ⇒ 17 - You possess claws that are treated as natural weapons and deal 1d4 damage.

As an Oracle who will probably go Sorcerer at some point, if you let me take the +2 Cha, I will do that in a second.

As a demon-spawn tiefling with the rolls from above I would go:
18 +2 = 20 Str
12 +0 = 12 Con
15 +0 = 15 Dex
13 -2 = 11 Int
10 +0 = 10 Wis
17 +4 = 21 Cha

Not sure if it will work, but I would like to go Oracle to level 4 or 8, take 1 level of Sorcerer and then 8 as a Dragon Disciple. Then if I survive that long, either take more oracle or more Sorcerer.

Vidor Varkony

Varisian Wizard:

If there is one one thing that the Varisian people are known for, it is the ability to charm you out of your shirt. Some of this outgoing race of men take it yet a step further by learning the arcane arts. Vidor is one of these very men. Charming, outgoing, and always on the lookout for a good time, Vidor is possessed by the wander lust which grips most of his people. What better way to fulfill this burning desire for all that the world has to offer than to take up the mantle of the adventurer? Not only does it keep you one step ahead of your enemies, but also provides for that other Varisian love, gold.

Having left his homeland as an young man to attend university in Absalom, Vidor came to love the great city for the immense variety of people one could meet and do other assorted things with. More once the young man had leverage his rather abundant vitality against men bent on taking revenge for slights both real and imagined. There are certainly times being of Varisian heritage are to ones decided disadvantage. But, often as not the jovial nature and skill with spell wielded by the swarthy fellow lead to many of these same men becoming trusted friends and allies. As Vidor is fond of reminding people, "What is a man without his friends? Likely dead in alley due to getting too fresh with another man's girl,hahaha."

Always on the lookout for a way to better both his lot in life and his skills in magic, Vidor is likely to take on jobs others would shy away from. Like the human spawn of a gnome and a halfling,he is a bit reckless and carefree. Traits which have as often as not landed him in need of rescuing by one of the many compatriots he has made over the years. Due to this relience upon those around him to get him out of a jam, the gypsy has focused a good deal of his energy on studying spells which enhance the abilities of those saviours. "Together there is nothing we cannot return to us, its rightful owners!"

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Wow, this is going to be a real circus-party.

Hobgoblin
Goblin
Demon-Spawn (everything's ok with that, Tirion)

But if you are confident with that, I'm fine too, just remember that not everyone will like you :)

By now it looks like most people would like to play Hangman's Noose, which is a good choice, since it looks like a cool module.

Since we got so many applicants I would also like to make the character choice process a democratic one. Once we have all character concepts together I would like to make a secret vote, everyone gets to vote for 6 characters and those 6 with most voices get the slot-what do think, does that make sense?

To make Hangman's Noose work, your characters need a backstory that makes it plausible that you have some relatives that belong to the citizenship of Absalom. This makes is quite hard to play a hobgoblin or goblin (maybe you have been adopted?!), I know. Playing a tiefling shouldn't be a problem, though.

Your characters should either be living in Absalom or have come here to visit their friends and relatives. Being a member of a noble family would at least for one character be a good idea.
Playing an Ulfen shouldn't be a problem, since Absalom is a melting pot, the same is true for any other human ethnicities.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

@ Bilbo, while I like your backstory it needs to be tweaked a bit, maybe your father had taken you to Absalom to work there already like 15 years ago?

@ All: your family ties in Absalom should at least be existing for 15-20 years.

Scarab Sages

male 1/4 Elf Lorekeeper???

Andros, human hodgepodge rogue

Spoiler:

Andros doesn't really know much about a family aside from his mother, who is/was (as the gamemaster wants) a tavern wench in Absalom harbor. Andros lived among the roughest folk from seamen to smugglers and adventurers, but as hardened as most of these folk were, some took a liking in the charming kid, perhaps because of the desire for a family of their own, so his youngest days were safer and better then most would imagine.

Andros was always a thankful (and naive enough not to recognize the boasting for what ist was) audience for tales of bloody battle, great adventure and lost treasures, most of which were exaggerated or comletely made up. Andros never stopped being faszinated by these tales, dreaming of his own adventures and discoveries, heroics and treasures. Even as he grew older, when his work at the tavern left him the time he would sit with the grizzled veterans of many voyages to listen to the tales they would spin.

Andros 'learned' from these tales, some useful skills which the talespinners taught him and some bogus they made up and he took for real, many of his 'survivalist skills' he never practiced beyond games and dreams.

Andros seldom left the seedier side of the town the harbor, the colourful markets selling trinkets, goods and services close to the saylors hearts. There was a time where he was jelous of the richer, more eloquent people that visited the harbor and 'his' tavern for their own reasons, but a coachdriver, a special fried of his mother at the time, told him, his mother left a life like that for her and ultimately Andros best, and that there was a dark side to even the seemingly brightest side of the city. Andros asked his Mother abou ti only once. She refudes him an answer, but the look, filled with an echo pain and fear even a young boy like him could recognize, made him never ask again.

I didn't chose an actual age for Andros. He should be a very young man, but Zyern, your post seems to indicate, that there is a certain timeframe about family history in the adventure, so I would leave that detail to you, if I am chosen as a player.

Vidor's Childhood:

Growing up the 7th son of the 7th son is a mark of luck amongst gypsies and it just so happened such a stroke marked Vidor's arrival in this world. Knowing that the boy would show promise in the ways of the arcane, Vidor's grandmother decreed the clan should move their settlement to a place which could foster the growth of such a youth. With the nomadic nature of the Varisian gypsy this was actually less of an issue than one would think.

Thus,at the age of 5 Vidor and the Varkony family packed their painted wagons and made the journey to the island of Absalom. Over the course of their journey the family came in contact with indviduals left to drift in the wind by fates cruel hands. Knowing the pain of the being societal outcast, the family took many of these drifters in treating them as family in return of the same.Being the prodigal son quickly landed the boy in frequent trouble, but a knack for fast talk usually got him out of a jam. Quick to befriend, and beguile as his skills grew, most he met, Vidor soon acquired a rather diverse group of friends. After drifting from tutor to tutor, the boy's father finally secured him a seat in the Arcanamirium. Who knew blackmail worked on even wizards?

After years of study, the wizard began to take side jobs for a group of Pathfinders. While not a member of the guild himself, he was often sought for his knowledge of the "practical magic" he possessed from his time at the university. The call of the open road soon pull at his native heart strings and Vidor left his adopted home to sek his way in the world. After a couple of years back in Varisia,he realized it was time to return home to Absalom with a deeper understanding of himself and his peoples magical tattoos. Master Qunatious would be very pleased with the knowledge he would be bringing him.

A quick question:

Is material from Inner Sea Magic open? Specifically tattoo magic and university membership. If not, assume any mention of these to be merely fluff.

Also, I added a bit to the early life sequence that will allow anyone who needs an adoptive family to hitch a ride on my wagon.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

@ Feytharn: Andros looks generic enough to make summon a mental image instantly, yet I guess you could give him enough depth to make playing him a good time, well done. I guess he could still need some more flavour, but I guess you already have some ideas how to roleplay him. How much do you know of Absalom? As a native rogue he could be the perfect guy for all knowledge local related things.

@ Bilbo: Inner Sea magic is totally open for use. Background fits better now.

I think I can lift the curtain why there is family involvement: All characters share one thing - Their father/grandfather/mother/grandmother was a juryman/-woman fifteen years ago.

So the name of the involved family member is also a must for your backstory :)

Zoltan Varkony, Father

A burly man with a thick mustache and hairy arms. He is the consumate opportunist. Always looking for a score and the ability to elevate his family above their station in life. Extremely proud of his son's accomplishments and very supportive,Zoltan has a close relationship with Vidor. Though he willdo what needs to be done to aid his family,Zoltan also has caring streak in him that often results a revolving cast of characters coming into the Varkony family's life.

Looks like we will see some really well fleshed out characters in this campaign, I'm very satisfied with these first submissions :)

VC - Sydney, Australia

Hmmm with all that on, I might wait out and let some others get in on the action. I have a few PbP's and reckon I can await the next one... spread the love a little more :)

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

With all the interest that was posted here, I was already thinking about running the campaign for two groups. I mean at least if both would be willing to start with Hangman's Noose.

In the further development of the campaign, the future Pathfinders would be able to choose which missions they accept (and as a consequence which module they play).

You are crazy.

:)

After Mark has said that he plays in like 18 campaigns I feel normal again :)

Scarab Sages

male 1/4 Elf Lorekeeper???

Zyren: I own the Absalom sourcebook, though I might have to reread it and know some of the bits of history scattered in the PFS adventures. When I build the character, I will ad tidbits to the background connected to his abilities, skills and feats, and I will add to the flavor during the beginning of the campaign.
Do you have Information about the grandparents, perhaps something that would explain his mothers choice of life? Learning about that, perhaps during the adventure (if you don't have details, I might cobble something up and provide it to you some way or the other)might help greatly giving the character additional depth.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

No, the adventure gives no information, besides the fact that either one of your parents or grandparents was juryman in the "Mord murders". (great pun, isn't it? I wonder if they looked in a German dictionary for that, lol)

Btw:

This is what Nik Logue (author of Hangman's Noose) wrote after a player on these boards said that he never felt so unclean after playing a module and that it will haut him forever.

MUUUUHAHAHAAHHAAH! Glad to hear this one dirtied you, sir! I think this is one of my most particularly creepy mods. I love that its for 1st level PCs, gives it over to that Ole Cthulhu flavor.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

I have some interesting tidbits for a background, but it will take a little while to flesh out. Hopefully can get it together by tonight my time so that you can check it out in the morning. Don't have as much time to be playing today.

DMZZ:

btw - Zyren, where in Deutschland are you from? I live in the Mosel Tal for a year as an exchange student. I live in and near the town of Wittlich.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Tirion:

I'm from Dinslaken, a mid-sized town (about 80k inhabitants, which is about 50km from Dusseldorf).
Wittlich is in one of the nicer regions of Germany, I guess you had a good time there. How long ago was that (or are you there at the moment?-I'm confused since you didn't use past tense^^)?
