Yeah unfortunately I have also yet to meet the GM who doesn't get all butthurt over the idea a player might have things like a flying mount. I find that odd since in 1st Ed a Ranger could have a bloody Brass Dragon.
Melee can't have nice things.
Anyhow, apparently there is a Half-Orc Paladin archtype in the ARG, still can't come at the LG barrier though :)

It is strange - as I recall from AD&D or 2ed, there was a "paladin" for every alignment. You were essentially a holy warrior for whatever faith you followed and got your powers/abilities from your deity. It is pretty stupid to limit them so.
As far as the ranger companions go, I would be pretty liberal as long as it did not unbalance things. I am in one campaign where our ranger has a hippogriff for a mount, I do not think that it unbalances things. After all, as the DM, if you think the player with a powerful mount is not playing fairly, most mounts/companions usually have relatively low hp - oops, the red dragon decided to bite your griffon instead of the knight ranger encased in steel - imagine that, a dragon with a 25 intelligence deciding to make a smart combat choice.

I have a ranger with a hippogriff mount in my Heroes of Elsir Vale Campaign. It was very dramatic when he was being chased by a Green Dragon!
I do believe that was a Red Dragon, we killed the Green Dragon. The hippogriff was lucky that some gnome cast Haste on him.

Just a heads up. Our Summer vacation to Utah is coming up and I will be away from June 25th to July 18th. We will be camping and hiking and out of touch with the rest of the world. I am sorry to be absent so long, but I suspect the time will fly. Please feel free to post for Solaric, Kyren, and Celestra as you need to. If I get any internet on the trip, I will make a post, but I am not anticipating it. Thanks for everyone's understanding.

Merry Summer Solstice everyone(of you who cares)... and I suppose a Merry Winter Solstice to those of you backwards folk :P I kind of wish it were winter here right now. I am not loving this heat.
They are not backwards, they are upside down.
And a happy solstice to you as well Bree.

Yup, happy Solstice everybody and thank you for reminding me, Bree. I cannot believe I forgot. Sure, this weak was...ugly...but this shouldn't have happened :-| Now I try to enjoy what is left of the night and hope it 'turns' better (would be the right day for that, wouldn't it...)
Have fun everybody, goodnight!

Thanks Bree, was a nice Solice night. Went out for a nice dinner and caught the ferry around Sydney Harbour, was a picture perfect postcard clear and still night too! Its easy to remember why we are a popular tourist destination, one of the cleanest harbour cities in the world :)

I recall some comedy skit when I lived there in which a family was in a car during the first day of the Nordrhein-Westfallen break and were sitting in traffic. They discussed all the preparations they had made and the extra food and that they had been on the road for like 24 hours, and then at the end you discover that they were only going one exit on the Autobahn to go to the grocery store.

I have a question about familiars and how to calculate their skill ranking. The Greensting scorpion for example has the following statistics:
Statistics
Str 3, Dex 16, Con 10, Int —, Wis 10, Cha 2
Skills Climb +7, Perception +4, Stealth +15; Racial Modifiers +4 Climb, +4 Perception, +4 Stealth
Do I have to subtract the racial modifier as well as the bonus granted due to abilities in order to calculate the skill ranks of a familiar?
In advance thank you very much for your answers and comments.

OK, so there is a video on Youtube of some real a$$hole kids teasing an older woman who works as a bus aid on their school bus. I mean these kids were being just awful, and they had her in tears. I couldn't even watch the whole thing. Seriously. These kids need their a$$es kicked in my opinion. Anyway, my point is, there is this guy named "Max S" on indiegogo.com (a fundraiser site) who started a fundraiser for this woman, Karen, in the hopes of getting $5,000 together for her to go on a vacation. The fundraiser closes in 29 days, but already donations have exceeded $400,000! Wow. Just wow. She can freaking retire!

Yeah it has had a heavy run on our national news here.
It is amazing how blind parents can be as to the actions of their kids, "Oh not MY little angelic Timmy".
What amazes me is that no other kids on the bus gave them a punch in the mouth for being such scumbags. Then again that probably explains why I got expelled from some of the finest highschools in Sydney.

Good question...
Seems the racial modifiers are already calculated into the creatures stats, so you need to subtract them first... also any Size adjustments need to be considered (ie for stealth)

I am a fan of the "Eye for an eye" method of punishment. Unfortunately in the USA we see to find notching a thief's ear for the first offense and chopping off his hand for the second to be cruel and unjust punishment. Well, nothing personal, but if you violently rape someone, there is no punishment that will ever equal what you did to the woman.
Same thing goes for bullies, fortunately between cell phones and school/police cameras, far more of the "My good son Jonny would never do that" kids are being shown to be a form of life which rats and other vermin would find offensive.

I hate kids >.>
I love kids! Can't stand douchebags though.
I usually find kids are ok, because once you have a bit of a talk to them they can usually come good. I et handed a lot of other peoples kids to deal with, a few boundaries and a little structure and even little Timmy Rotten usually gets the hint and comes on board - but by thetime they get to the teenage years it gets harder to reverse the entrenched hate.

Mayhaps, Tirion, mayhaps.
If I were a kid on that bus, I most definitely would have done something. I was always the one to stand up for the person getting bullied. Quite frequently resulting in violence. The fact that I was generally able to hold my own all that kept them from just bullying me instead.
It's kids like that, that are the cause for my fear of sending my kid to school. That and instances of teachers abusing kids.

I tend to be very much that way, but its two eyes for an eye; those that come and burst my happy-zen Karmic bubble will find I have little interest in a zero sum game. Execute one, educate a thousad after all.
Of course I'd much prefer everyone was a peace loving moonbaby like me.
What I am more interested in is why these kids act so stupidly, usually it turns out the kids are actually quite deeply lost and unhappy themselves. Then again once things kick off I get less interested in the why and simply crack down on it when I see it... my sympathy towards their inner turmoil cuts out once they visit nastiness on others.

Yah, usually why I got expelled... I was always a bit too thorough when push came to shove :p

I am actually a conscientious objector by birth and religion. The Harpwizard can confirm that. I just hate people who have no consideration or common courtesy toward others.

Why = 2 working parents + rich parents who are more concerned with themselves than raising their kids + parents who think that the school and system should raise their kids.

I'm glad that everyone is coming together to give this woman something loving after so much hate, but at the same time, I'm mildly annoyed. I've been slinging my fundraisers (which support MS and Autism among others) for a couple of months now and have only managed to raise $30, $20 of that coming from myself :/ *Sigh*.
