If it is a double session, go for City of Strangers 1 & 2, or Hydras Fang Incident + Perils of the Pirate Pact. They work ok as there is a theme, and they are pretty straightforward.
If memory serves, Hydra's Fang was my first PFS ever, back in Season Zero--Paizo's first introduction of PFS into GenCon.
incidentally, I'm convinced that the introduction of winning 2 Prestige Points (a practice started in Season 1) originated from my group in that GenCon. In one of the sessions (not Hydra's Fang, I'd have to look in my notes to recall which one) we had an NPC with us who owned a slave. Our caravan got attacked, and one of my Andoran compatriots (DMHW, that would be Chris, if you couldn't guess!) told the guy that we'd protect him if he freed his slave. The slaveowner agreed, and the DM, after consulting with Paizo brass (who kept poking their heads into our session because we are AWESOME!) he awarded us 2 PP. As far as we know that was the first time anyone ever got 2 PP in a PFS session.
that Gencon was almost as cool as 2013 when DMHW and I were there together, for his virgin trip. Man, that was the coolest, wunnit bro???

You're right, and I'm impressed. +1!! Should I ask how you knew? I didn't give much detail about it in my last post...
that one was a lot of fun for us, because
1) the aforementioned 2 PrP's & Paizo brass visits
2) using software/laptop projector from a new company (dam, can't remember THAT name either!!) Was very cool
3) the survival rate on that scenario was very low. I remember having NAILED the first battle, and looking at the table next door about a half hour later, they were still on the battle (they were also using a projector, so we could see it on the wall). The good guys were getting X'd through at a depressing rate, until the DM stnads up and yells "T-P-K!!!" There were a lot of TPKs that scenario. We, though, ruckin' focked it. (I know for a fact that the DM was fudging some die rolls in the last fight. Desna was snickering up her sleeve at us; we were doing everything right but the dice were being b1tchy, and the DM didn't want to punish our good playing for that)

Riht on Vaughn. Im gunning for upgrading all of my defenses before shooting for TH8. I did score Dragons! and have all of my walls up to level 7 now. Steady grinding.
Hey--is your clan looking for any new members? My son and I are both TH8 (he's ahead of me w/defenses and troops), and we're currently not satisfied with our clan. I'm not an insanely skilled player, but I get by. Son is better than me.
Want any new blood? (if you don't that's OK, just say so...)

^ Vaughn - you guys are more than welcome to join us. Clan name is Empty Throne. I'll let the other elders/coleaders to be expecting 2 recruits.
FYI - we've set some clan rules. It will be easier to relay them here.
We do a Clan war every Friday-Sunday at about 10 AM EST.
Make both attacks in two wars and earn elder.
Don't make any attacks in 2 wars with no heads up (sick, vacation, etc)and get kicked.
We lost four straight wars due to non participants. But have won two in row since <thumbs up>
Hopefully that's cool. If not I understand also.
What's going on with your clan?
Vaughn Elliot |
well, right now my son and I are by far the most advanced players. Rest of the clan are young (son's age of 12 or younger), and/or don't care all that much, and/or simply inactive (a lot of that does have to do with the summer vacation, of course) But many of our members don't attack during clan war, for no apparent reason.
My boy has actually found a different clan, independent of me, that he wants to join. I'm going to look into that first because, you know, it's mah boi! :-)
I like your rules, and I will keep you gents in mind. I don't necessarily care to be promoted, but I don't like to be the ONLY GUY in the clan who donates troops to the Clan War castles (that happens all the time--the biggest reason our lower members get zero- or one-starred is becasue of my awesome L4 wizards and L5 barbs i'm always donating them!!)
Stiehl9s |
Completely understandable on all counts.
We have a couple of players that dont do well in wars at all. But! they make an effort and I figured Elder status was a nice recognition for that effort. All of our members donate although some more than others which I guess is due to mostly to the differences in amount of activity between players.
I just had to kick a guy that has missed the last three wars. I even called him out directly in Chat and via Clan email and he never answered but he would come on the day after the War ended and request troops. Not fair to the others at all and frustrating to boot.
It would definitely be cool to have you guys but if you find another cozy home that is just as cool. Our door will always be open.

So first views on DnD Basic - looks interesting. It's basically taken what people liked about 3rd edition, stolen a few of the good ideas from 4th edition... and then attempted to simplify things back towards a 2nd edition feel re: skills, etc.
Downsides - the sample character they explain during the creation process is a dwarf fighter who uses an axe and has a one-horned shield... named Bruenor. *facepalm*
No gribbly monsters in the document.
Ultimately it actually looks like something worth taking out for a spin.

don't you mean a foaming mug shield and a one-horned helmet? :-)
Vaughn Elliot |
Maybe you were busy face palming at bruenor.
Just watch for the horned helm. There's only one horn, but it's sharp

I said this early in the tournament, although it is frequently true. Brazil is by far the most talented team and plays like 11 superstar players, each playing their own game. Germany, well, it plays like a machine. I actually think they are better without any superstar egos to distract them. Certainly were this time.

Objection! They are one of the most not by far the most. To a osmosis football watcher Spain has a far more recognizable squad to me than Brazil.
Using pre-tournament transfer value as a marker - the Germans are worth more on the open market, and the Spanish team worth significantly more.
Outside of Neymar the Brazilian team didn't really have any 'superstars' I thought?
Tirion Jörðhár |
Tiago Silva is an amazing defender and several others, like Hulk, are great players as well. However, I did not realize how the distributions were. In the past Brazil has had many more top stars like Ronaldo, Rolandinho, Kaka, and numerous others who were close to, or at, the top of the transfer market.
One interesting thing is that the top 2 teams are 2 of the few whose players play primarily at home. 14 of the 23 players on the Spanish team play for Barcelona, Real Madrid or Atheltico Madrid. Likewise, Bayern Munchen has 7 German players and 4 more play for Borussia Dortmund with several others playing for other German team. Actually, 16 of the 23 man German team play for German clubs. You have to wonder if these teams pay disproportionately high transfer for home nation players knowing that these players are easier to market at home.
Mark Sweetman |
It's a murky science as the vast majority of the guys are valued on perceived value rather than real value. The highest transfer fees are generally in the Spanish / English market:
The most that Bayern has paid for a German player is 37 million Euros for Goetze... 50th on the all time list.
It's worth noting that actual Tranfer Fees are not a great measure. Messi for example has played at Barca his entire career and is likely to retire there - so he's never physically been transferred (though his value would be massive).
Guys on the German team like Lahm, Schweinsteiger, and Muller have only ever played for Bayern (good youth development and recruitment) so haven't had to have transfers.
Even someone like Neuer was only transferred for 22 million euros.

I don't scare them - alienate, offend, drive to the verge of insanity, or just frustrate are all possibilities, but few of my characters are really scary - other than Judge Tohram, he is a pretty scary and twisted individual, but currently is suffering from some minor metabolic challenges until the DM, hopefully, returns to raise him so that he can die again and become a vampire.

Still here and returned from weeks of travelling through several Eurpoean countries ;)
Not so sure about reviving the campaigns since next term is going to be a big load of work, buuuut I'm definitely interested in restarting one or starting a new one - ideas?
