Folks, can you tell me what problems I create by allowing a shirt of protection in my game. Does this upset game balance by having an extra slot or do you think the type of magical enhancements would keep things in balance any way?
It isn't a "new slot." See page 459 in the core rulebook. It lists out each slot, including body (robes), chest (shirt/vest), and shoulders (cape/cloak). I see no reason that the "of Protection" MUST be on the shoulders, why not chest or body?
of course, you could call me biased because I'm the one requesting such an item in DMHW's campaign. That doesn't change the fact that my logic is indisputable and I'm right. :-)

Magic Items on the Body
Many magic items need to be donned by a character who wants to employ them or benefit from their abilities. It's possible for a creature with a humanoid-shaped body to wear as many as 15 magic items at the same time. However, each of those items must be worn on (or over) a particular part of the body, known as a “slot.”
A humanoid-shaped body can be decked out in magic gear consisting of one item from each of the following groups, keyed to which slot on the body the item is worn.
Armor: suits of armor.
Belts: belts and girdles.
Body: robes and vestments.
Chest: mantles, shirts, and vests.
Eyes: eyes, glasses, and goggles.
Feet: boots, shoes, and slippers.
Hands: gauntlets and gloves.
Head: circlets, crowns, hats, helms, and masks.
Headband: headbands and phylacteries.
Neck: amulets, brooches, medallions, necklaces, periapts, and scarabs.
Ring (up to two): rings.
Shield: shields.
Shoulders: capes and cloaks.
Wrist: bracelets and bracers.
________________
--> There is a reasoning for items in certain slots though. So you have to spend the extra cash for a +2 Headband of Cha/Wis/Int rather than three separate Ring of Int +2, Headband of Wis +2, Necklace of Cha +2.
Also, since identical bonuses do not stack unless it is untyped or a Dodge bonus (don't ask me why that one is different), if you had a cloak of resistance +1, boots of resistance +1, and a ring of resistance +1, I think that you would still only be at a total of +1 since all of them would be the same type of bonus.

but there's no reason not to have a vest of resistance instead of a cloak of resistance. NOt that I can see . . .

Im no rule monger and am definitely not that familiar with all of them.
so I dont see a problem with allowing the shirt of protection. Especially since protection bonuses dont stack. Also since there are Rings and Cloaks of protection why not shirts? To me, it would only be unbalanced if you were creating another slot like elbows, knees or something equally as goofy.

DM Mark..
Have pretty much settled on my happy Midshipman as being the Cav (Order of cockatrice). I am quietly confident that at some point a majestic and wondrous creature will appear as a suitable 'Hound' (either the Dobermans sent straight from the Pit ala Omen) or some other terrestrial nasty.
I went away from Bard as there seems to be a bit of interest in the field already, and so I am taking the martial aspect instead. I also thought Bard as it would be backup healer, but I am running a Healer (by party default) in too many PBP's already, (Alcheringa/Victoria/Aurichalcum/Winter) so I need more straight brawlers to join Harry, Attalas, and Bloodless.
Anyhow, as long as we end up with a RELIABLE Healer type I'm a happy camper.
I'll get stats up today.

Is it just me or are the S&S Traits just a little bit situational/niche and probably not worth anything past the first 5 mins of the campaign? Pitborn also have meh traits, and the tiefling traits are similarly not the strongest in game - once again a bit oddball and niche...
I think they missed a few 'classic' traits that come to the front of my mind based on the last few decades of horror cinema to be frank.
I might write them up in the time I don't have one day and send them into KQ or something :P
Reckon the Surgeon one probably has slightly more longevity.

Roger that - will look to ensure we've an appropriately healy type.
Yep - traits in the S&S guide are pretty crap. That's why I havent' enforced taking one - and you're also right that the tiefling traits are fairly focused.
Can always come up with a custom one? - I'm open to that as long as it's on theme and on power level.

You kidding? Chen the Drunken Master of Many Styles is going to love the Drunken Brawling trait. :D
Just don't give him any trouble.
Shifty |
Yeah but you did say S&S trait OR BoF trait, so working in line with that :)
I think they missed theme traits for Pet classes as my first comment. As alluded to earlier, I reckon they need a 'demonic familiar' type deal - something not quite right with the Cavaliers horse, an eerie look to the menacing looking Dobermans of a Tiefling Ranger/Druid etc - essentially a watered down Boon Companion with some fluff effects.
Tainted bloodline in the animals as it were.
And surely there's a lot they could have thought about doing with the whole devils blood - maybe a Feat that allows them to use their own freshly drawn blood to create a Protection from Good/Evil or spring forth a weakened Lemure or something... they just missed a lot of the 'cool creative' imo.
Personally I would have made that book go wild - Tiefling and Aasimar have so many cool and cinematic options.

Our Sigmar priest was cut down by a Clan Eshin Assassin when he was walking down an alley at night - kill kill - luckily he was saved before permanent death by some alarmed citizens.
Still the session was a success, the party managed to get an invitation for the masquerade ball (by trading in a rare autograph of a former blood bowl legend...)
The third part of the adventure will be the actual ball then and I wonder how they are going to stop Grey Seer Rasknitt...

Yup, by virtue of Tuesday being my weekend.
I summed up my first impression in the Diablo 3 thread, so:
It plays much like Diablo 2.
The graphics look better than they are, due to the selected art style (which I like) and look a lot less cartoony then those in Torchlight.
Skill development is dumbed down, but I never thought that to be central to any Diablo game.
Getting kicked out of a single player game because I lost server connection (happened thrice in the last two hours despite a stable and very fast DSL connection on my side) is kind of annoying, especially in a game you can't 'quicksave often',
I like the game, it is a fast, quick timewaster, just like Diablo 2 - if you ar looking for the RPG of the year, better look somewhere else.
Hah, I just (while writing this) received a voucher for 10€ from the online service I purchased the Game, because due to technical problems the keys weren't delivered at midnight :-)

Good on ya! I'm hoping the third time downloading the installation files will be the charm. *sigh*

As an FYI for all, I may be off the boards from Friday the 18th until Monday the 28th. I have attempted to download a program which allows me to tether my PC through my Iphone, but do not know whether it will work where I am going. Thus, I hope to keep up with my characters, but if I fall behind, feel free to DMPC me as necessary.

That blows, Shifty. They getting you all spun up for the FTX? I hate that. It isn't like we aren't going to be out there for ever and a day any how. "You guys sure you know how to march and pack a ruck? Well just in case we are going to practices that for 6 weeks." Bah...well on that note it is time for the Thursday morning training bore fest. See you guys later.
Shifty |
Yeah thats the exact junk we are going through. I'm hoping they throw in a few interesting activities, but I suspect that wont happen. That said, I don't mind going back over fundamentals 101 and just blowing off dust of things we might not have done in a while - I guess some skills get rusty.
Theres my Officer spin on what is otherwise 'getting a pineapple'.

Again, so tired I am almost happy to hear that (not happy for you, of course) :-|
A nightshift in a gas station not one mile from the first local Schützenfest is definetly not fun.
I am not looking forward to next week: sunday night before a holiday with almost nor religious/family traditions unless you are a priest usually results in a menagerie of drunken customers all night long.
Good night everybody, as another Sunmonday reaches its end!

So...my Birthday today... aweosome day, so much went well, so many nice things, eight pages of well wishing on my facebook, presents galore... but what did the Army give me? Oh right, six more months at Staff College. Nice. Thanks. Lovely. 'Not confirmed 100%' they say, so that means 99% of not going away now.
Think I just want to go to bed.

Happy Birthday, Shifty!
ZZ: No, that would only remind me of the horrors witnessed, growing up on a farm right across the street from the yearly Schützenfest in that area (the very same that frustrated me yesterday especially sinced I moved away from that farm...
Seriously, I was to tired to do so, yesterday, so here you go. Just add an unbelievable amount of alcoholic beverages and a drunk brass chapel to that description and you have a pretty good Idea what a Schützenfest is.
