Heh. We introduced this a while ago (months? I think) and I've been waiting for someone to notice it. Actually threads you have read and have no new posts should be slightly lighter and threads with new stuff, or threads you haven't read yet, should be darker.
We did roll out a new dots server today, and a rewrite of the "x new" service yesterday which should improve performance and behavior of both. The new dots server can better handle being rebooted (dots should be rebuilt faster, usually within less than a minute now). And the "x new" service will no longer reset when the dots server gets rebooted. Also we are now tracking x new for up to 500 threads and sixty days, instead of 30 days as before. (It's good to let new hardware stretch its legs.)

That's how it was until today ... today it seems to have reversed, all the threads I haven't read are lighter, the ones I have read recently WITH new posts are darker (if they don't have new posts they stay light).

Yeah, that's how it happened for me, as well.
This morning, it was darker threads are unread, lighter threads are recently read.
This afternoon, it switched to darker threads are stuff I've read / dotted, and lighter threads are stuff I haven't read.

The reversed behavior is the first thing I noticed this morning when I checked the site. I don't know whether it's just because I'm used to lighter=read, but I like the old way better.
I agree; the reversal was the first thing I noticed today too, and it made me pretty confused. Still does, actually. Not a good change, IMO.

Unread threads are now so light blue that the text is painful to read. It's possible that it's more because of my monitor settings or something crazy going on with osX Firefox...
With my monitors, both at home and at work (or possibly given the frequencies of visible light to which my eyes are either more or less sensitive than average), the difference between the light and "normal" blue of the thread titles is practically undetectable (Perception check of 35 to notice it.)

I just now noticed it only after reading this thread. It's there, but you definitely have to roll a high Perception check. Would like to see more of a distinction so I only have to roll a 5 versus a 35.
