[Frog God Games] Tome of Horrors Complete Sneak Peak

Product Discussion

Frog God Games

As we enter the final wrap-up stages of putting this book together before it goes to layout in a couple weeks, I have just completed compiling its Table of Contents. Obviously it is sans page numbers at this point, but I thought I'd give you guys a little teaser for those who are thinking of checking this book out, so you can see exactly what is in store. This TOC is for the PF RPG version (the S&W version is still underway).

Also, as a reminder the preorders for the book will end June 30 so we can get the numbers into the printers. Preorders can be made at talesofthefroggod.com.

Anyway, I hope you engoy.

What? No berbalang?

It's... it's like this vast tidal wave of work which will crash down upon me and drown me in monstery goodness.

At least I'll die happy in the layout mines. ;)

I'm looking forward to the updated N'gathau. I've got plans for those bad boys...

What are the benefits of the pre-order, is it just a price break or access to the lairs pdf or, or.....or?

Also with the pre-order is it just a print version or do you also get the pdf?

BTW - I'm in the long haul premium sub for Tsar, so far the mod/mini-campaign is incredible. Excellent work!

This is what I believe to be true, though those who actually know are more than free to correct me:

* The preorder makes the tome 10 dollars cheaper and also given the demand it likely ensures you get one. Whereas if you don't pre-order you may be out of luck for the print version.

* The PFRPG version does not come with an extra supplement in print that the S&W version does. However it is my understanding that you will be able to DL the extra thing. Though, I forget if it is going to be an adventure or something else.

* The print pre-order will come with a free pdf download. All of Frog God's print products come with free pdfs, at least so far.

- Also regarding Slumbering Tsar, it is my understanding that you can still pre-order that hardcover as well, not sure how long that will last, however.

Dark Sasha is correct, however:

The $10 discount on the pre-order only goes until June 1. After that it goes back up. I don't know if Bill will be extending that discount any longer than that or not.

We will be printing based off of preorders. There will be some extras printed for distribution, but probably not very many. The book's just too expensive to print without guarantee of purchase. So they may be difficult to find the print version without preordering.

The preorder is the print version and comes with the pdf for free.

The extra lairs found in the S&W version will be found in a free download at the FGG website for those who only get the PF version and still want the lairs.

Thanks Greg!

This lairs thing sounds pretty cool.

Well, I just needed the pdf to push me (over the cliff).

As far as I can tell your info sounds like what I have been reading in different places - I do believe extra content is a section of pre-made lairs which is included in the S&W print version but for PFRPG it will be a DL (with a code??) probably since the S&W stats require less space.

A pdf version of the TOHC is enough to get me onboard with a pre-order though, I'm in.

I'd love it..but it's unaffordable for me when you take the postage into account. $120 is just too much. I'll stick to the PDF version

Is there an option to pick up pre-orders at Gen Con?

Apparently it's the same shipping cost for 2 copies - do you know anyone local or going to the same post-August con as you?

I know the feeling. Just looking at this makes me fear all the work we'll have to do at d20pfsrd.

Do we have a estimate on how much the PDF will cost?

Is a dead tree version going to be shipping to UK games stores? The Alu-fiend is one of the last old-school monsters I was looking to see a PFRPG makeover for...

Edit:
Oh, ah, $120 for a print version. Umm, hmmm. :-?

Five more days and I get my holiday pay! Can't wait :-)

And $136 to Europe - lucky that's only €90 at the current exchange rate. Two figure sums I can vaguely justify to my girlfriend :-D

here's a fan conversion for now: Alu-Demon

Also do what I'm going to do, buy the PDF version. I've heard that the book would probably break if you really tried to open it out for a proper look.

Don't go starting any rumors now. That all depends on the quality of the binding and we're using stitch-binding for the ToH Complete. Check out some old-school encyclopedia britanicas or those giant Smithsonian books for examples of how strong that kind of binding is.

My Webster's Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary is 20 years old and over 2000 pages long. The stiched binding is in perfect condition and has survived literally hundreds of being opened "for a proper look".
I think it would be best to not listen to people who have no clue what they are talking about. I would question the agenda of the person starting that rumor. There is no validity to it.
But by all means, just get the pdf if you are at all concerned about being able to wield a book that size.

Or do what I'm going to do - pre-order the behemoth!

I've heard that the book would probably break your arm if you looked at it cross-eyed.

Plus it will be Smyth sewn - which is pretty much as good as it gets. (http://www.bookfactory.com/Smyth-sewn-books.html) So let's not spread unsubstantiated opinions as fact. Frog God are very quality-conscious. A recent post illustrates this:

On that note, I was able to obtain a limited quantity of flawed hardcovers (slight warp in the cover stock), and will be offering them at a steep discount ($20) to those of you who want a play copy of the hardcover rules. These books are really nice, but do have a slight outward pull on the covers, resulting in me rejecting them as our limited edition release. They are otherwise in perfect condition. Honestly, most companies would have just sold them as the limiteds, but we chose not to. These books have a high gloss finish to distinguish them from the limited editions.

It's just a rumor I heard online and as you point out, it has no basis: Grognardia

The first comment was on about the first ToH book and I have no idea to believe or disbelieve it. Eitherway, I'm personally buying the PDF because I don't have the money (live in the UK, so postage is going to be very expensive) and I fully support this book. I've only learnt about the previous books due to the appearance of creatures like Corpse Orgy, Cinder Ghouls, Demilich, Skeleton Warrior Template and others in APs I've been looking through.

There are many others that appear in the ToH and the prospect of getting free dungeon set ups when bought makes it even more attractive. I'm recommending it to my personal DM and will tell him when it comes out for PDF purchas as he too lives in the UK and postage is very expensive.

Yeah, the original ToH had bad binding issues (both of mine are off the spine). Lesson was learned, and none of the other hardcovers Bill has produced over the intervening 9 years has had that problem. ;)

Different story here. My original ToH is actually in better shape than my PF Core Rulebook, as far as the binding goes.

Same here.

Must have been luck of the draw on most parts.

My PFCore is still super-spiffy.

Karma in action?

Maybe, or the conditions are just different. When I was still using the ToH regularly, I was gaming at home. Now I game at a friend's house, so there's a lot of packing, transport, unpacking, rinse and repeat. More wear and tear over less time is a possibility.

Will some of us who had pre-ordered from the original announcement before there was a difference to choose between S&W vs PFRPG get a follow-up to confirm which version of the book we want? I never had received a response to verify which one I want (which is PFRPG).

The Exchange

d20pfsrd.com is happy to promote this book with a big blazing ad in the sidebar of all pages now. Come on by, click the ad, then pre-order the book. Support publishers who support the game you love with more amazing monsters than you'll ever be able to fight.

Spoiler:
If any other 3PP would like an ad in similar placement, for free, for (at least) 30 days, all you have to do is contact me and send me a 160x600 ad along with where you want it linked to. It's on you from here :)

Yes, we'll have to follow up with you to know which one to send. Don't know exactly when Bill will do that, but probably sometime closer to the the ship date. Plus you can always send Bill an e-mail.

I also find it ironic that a book with 1000 pages contains the feat Thump.

Bill will get back to you when the time comes I am sure. He needs to ask me the same question.

ahh, I was hoping it was a simple case of the first few having bad binding, but the lesson being learnt and all the others being fine.

eitherway I'm sure the issue won't be the same. I only get books in PDF now as I'm always on my laptop and it's so much easier to access the PDF than the book whilst DMing or playing PBP games. I'm certainly not going to start working on my homebrew until I get this. So many ideas.

I have them in .jpeg, .tiff, .indd and .doc formats.

;)

I have ToH revised, 2 and 3, however the PDF for 2 hasn't transfered very well into PDF format, atleast the copy I found :p.

If only herolab were able to add it, it would make monsterous NPCs easy to construct (like a Ghoul Stirge with monk levels or something.
