I'm willing to play a level down. Heck, if I'm around mainly as "local color," more as a flavorful NPC than a main party member, that's cool, too. I wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes.
Don't worry about stepping toes, I am pretty sure that Pollux already has plans to remove unwanted toes to make into a nice snack for his rat.

I am ok with it. Be nice to have someone to swap spells with. Might even be able to consult on some merchant contracts.
Contracts? Ooh, yes, contracts. I am quite well-versed in all manner of contract formation, as well as the interplay between contracts. Overlapping contracts is where quite a bit of the most interesting action occurs... (giggles) ...um, well, yes. It becomes exceedingly important in the matter of karcist extrication. I've encountered poorly-written wills, for example, that went into effect when the testator's soul was sold, which met the will's definition of "death." The recipiator anima was quite bemused at that particular turn of events. The now-destitute testator turned to his patron and asked, "Kill me now," to which the devil replied, "According to law, I already have."
Ahem, well, yes. Contracts. Very important things.

No reason you wouldn't. We have an all Evil party and they are getting along like a house on fire in S&S. LE can be more reliable than CG, and of the Evils it is the least disruptive. LE never concerns me as much as CN!
I like to play Lawful characters and LE can be fine in a party. I think some use the CN as a excuse to be selfish and act however they want. I see the CN alignment as first and formost being an individualist. Kranoc values his freedom and liberty, but he dosen't really care to protect the freedoms of others. While unpredictable he's not random. There's a sense of purpose to his actions, but he follows a personal code rather then what society directs him to do. Also he woulden't intentionally disrupt an organization just for the sake of anarchy. Doing so would imply that he was motivated either by good (and a desire to liberate others) or evil (and a desire to make those different from himself suffer). He dosen't care about either outcome, so he is content to leave of the status quo the same.

Shouldn't Tal sit out this? Hate for his kid to end up an orphan. He can make good steady pay at his level.
Failed the sense motive check didn't you ;p
P.S. Tal has no kids yet...that he knows of anyways.

Oh the horrors that Sclivian missed...
What? I most certainly did not. The "cheap seats" for the play was a wonderful vantage point from which to rebuild my contact network. Bravo, everyone, on a wonderful performance, and good Petronicus, thank you for demonstrating that I was making the right decision by not taking part in the play.

I'm ok with the group going +1 if that's the consensus. I'm pretty happy with our current dynamic. I'd say no to most other returning players (im a fan of smaller groups, 5 max) but the Sclivian Ruttle persona is pretty damn cool. It was disappointing losing him back then.
Ultimately it's on Tark for the extra work of adjusting encounters though.

So largish post.
First I've decided to let Sclivian play again...in the third book.
I talked to everyone in the group and the general consensus is that it would be great to have him back but the sudden disappearance of Sclivian's player was received poorly. Another thing that was brought to my attention was that PEtronicus had a really rough start when he was introduced into the game. Without Sclivian's healthy fear of the rest of the group Petronicus kind of found himself trying to be overly helpful to a group who did not know him and certainly did not want to be touched by him. Considering their other arcane spellcaster is a nihilist who thinks nothing of disturbing those he aids with magic with terrible images of their own ultimate fate in the universe I suppose this should not come as any big surprise. Add that he died painfully and horribly in front of a live theater audience and Petronicus's moments of glory are, well, not.
So in light of this I've decided that Sclivian should go on a bit of a probationary period until the third book or until such time I feel he's been around enough to be folded back regularly into the group.
For the moment he can feel free to psot once more in Sclivians current form to roleplay out Sclivian's shenanigan's with his personal stuff while the rest of the group is collectively murdering themselves on stage.
In other news I'm going to refrain from posting in the pirate games this weekend. I've come to discover that really the little mini system they have for the AP simply does not work well in this format. Nearly a year into it and we haven't gotten a week ingame. This is about the equivalent of a whole session.
So I'm going to go through this book and basically rip it apart to get what I need out of it. The whole "tryin to get the crew to be on your side while not being disciplined to death" theme will still apply.
What I may have in its place is the simple down time system I've had for my CoT games which has worked splendidly in making use of the characters spare times. The group already has a fair concept that free time is limited and outright combat with the officers is suicidal. So I'll likely go with a similar system.
Sclivian Ruttle |
I honestly didn't expect to be let back in. But I will gladly rejoin the game, and I'm more than willing to help Petronicus out--that was a rough way to join the game. Thank you, everyone, you all deserve better from me. No more sudden and rude disappearing!!! I'm starting my own campaign to remind me to stick around.
Now, then, I hear there's a marvelously scandalous play being shown, all the nobles will be there... it's a long shot to get back into someone's graces... and what's this? I recognize the actors from this flyer!
(Yes. Feel free to hate me and make my life horrendous. Promise me a fate worse than making me dig around my insides for a worm. I deserve at least that.)

Looking forward to it! I think the concept for the mini system would be fine at a table with live players but for a pbp it seems to slow things down in a rough way. Regardless, I'm having a blast and quite honestly Mumbata has got to be one of my favorite characters to date.

To the rebels group: I was thinking last night about a concept I initially drafted for my application to your group. It was ballsy and a swing for the fences but none the less I thought you might be interest in what I originally though up. I kicked around the idea of what a rebellion would have meant in a city like Westcrown and then I though about the destruction and violence sprang up during the crusades. I wanted to make a character with some deep issues that would allow for some significant role play:
With that in mind I conceived Lucin Vitrun Jeggare, LG Priest of Asmodeus (Archetype: Separatist). The Separatist archetype allows for me to take a normally inaccessible domain, and I would have selected Good and Trickery. Like LeVash, Lucin would have been living a double life. On one side he is an upstanding noble from a esteemed house, while on the other he heretic priest that has to hide his beliefs. Lucin has has the unshakeable beliefs that Asmodeus is venerated in a corrupted form. He is the punisher of the wicked and the protector of the universe. He locked away the Rough Beast and is the enforcer of law and order. Lucin is not sure how the corruption and evil managed to corrupted the Lord of Law but he beileves he is an alcolyte of the "true" order.
I'm quite happy with Bingomite, but I would love to hear your thoughts on the concept. The truth its, I was afraid if I went really crazy with Lucin it would get shot down. So I went with the safer option.

I can hear the collective no's coming from the future. They are distraght and worried.
Thing is you were picked for Bingomite. And really you haven't well done much with him yet. Nor have you been given a chance.
And to be honest the Rebels group realllyyyy needs to do with less angst.
Bingomite Ralorphus Tealeaf |
It's no big deal. I'm happy with the wayward gnome. I had though the group would have been interested in the initial concept. As I go back and dig through my old Superstar submissions I found the sheet I had written up and though they might have gotten a kick out it.
Bloodless |
I gotta be honest.
You would have taken a Greatsword to the head from Bloodless and he'd have left your body cooling in an alleyway, or just locked you in with a few Shadowbeasts until the screaming stopped.
Bingo and Teddy Biscuits have been a bit of a refreshing change to be honest, and now we can focus on the AP rather than the double life extra angst harrowing angst stories we can actually kill the bad guys rather than each other. As I say, I was trying to work out which order I needed to kill the other two in - cleric or druid first. The druid was the frontrunner in the TK stakes. The Cleric was simply going to be grassed up to the Asmodeans (for deniability).

Haha fair points Bloodless. You did say during the initial recruitment you wanted "team players". That was the main idea behind Bingomite. After hearing the feedback I'm glad I went the route I did. Thanks all.

Lol, I didn't read the thread, not wanting to know anything I shouldn't. Sounds like there was some real craziness that proceeded us!

Overall, I look at writing quality on the character write-up. The character concept is a part of the overall quality; I try to gauge the maturity and sophistication of the player, along with how well the character will function in the long term. (Which is probably more guesswork than prediction.)
That being said, both Bingo and Teo seem to work well in the group dynamic. I am, however, ready for a point where we can operate out our 'secret' rebellion without worrying about something trivial getting the city guards attention upon us.

Example of craziness here. We are going to return some rented horses, and we have our first encounter with what will be a (socially) antagonistic NPC. Note how long it takes for the people of the secret rebellion to become remembered for a lifetime.

Give up the chance for bad poetry? Fie!
I kid, I hope the angst here is a lot less than the Rebel's, (and ours as well. We lost one member and the slayers mangled the corpse as a message to us.)

Thanks for that trip down memory lane!
Picking fights in the street with 'well connected and influential people' is the right way to run a secretive angsty organisation. Fo realz. Then they got shirty when I fixed the problem.

Just imagine how the play would ahve went with her still around. :)
Bloodless |
She wouldn't be. She was the first one up for the chopping block originally, with LeVash coming in as a second. Unfortunately LeVash sided with her and threatened Bloodless, that's when he decided they were a danger... in a bizarre twist, she was then replaced with another player that Bloodless had to work out how to get rid of.
Calla wouldn't have made the play, she would have been bumped off quietly.

I figure most of the Harpies group finds it difficult to picture a muscular somewhat slender woman, so I've searched for a long time for visual references for Siera (oh, how I wish I could unsee some things).
But seeing as I had a lotta trouble finding fantasy images of muscular woman fighting barehandedly (go figure) I've turned to more modern sources.
Beware, photos of a woman in revealing clothes ahead (I guess NSFW):

Those are all from a single woman named Pauline Nordin.

Please. That makeup would run so fast with all the sweat, grime, and seawater you'd have to deal with daily.
