July product schedule?!

Paizo Publishing General Discussion

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber

(First off, sorry if I'm posting this on the wrong board - not sure where it should go)

I wandered over to the product schedule and was a little shocked by what I saw for the month of July. While I'm probably one of the last people who would complain about too many Paizo products, July may just be my limit. Based on by subscriptions, I'll be getting 3 Adventure Path volumes, 4 Campaign Setting volumes, and the Ultimate Combat hardover. There's also 2 Player Companions and a Module.

I understand this is simultaneously due to Paizocon and an effort by Paizo to catch up on past delays. Still (and I never thought I'd say this)... I sort of hope some of this stuff gets pushed back.

Actually a lot of it is the GenCon products. There will be almost nothing actually released in August.

My bad, GenCon not PaizoCon.

And again, I understand that August will be empty. The problem is pulling together the cash for July.

At the very least, I hope they "spread out" the Campaign Setting volumes or something. 2 in July, 2 in August would be great. I know Paizo is definitely set on getting the first issue of Jade Regent out, as well as Ultimate Combat, but... I dunno, maybe give subscribers the option of having the last issue of Carrion Crown sent in August?

Last year it was the same way. There was a July subscription order at the beginning of the month and then the normal August items are put together and shipped at the very end of the month.

They appear to be going this route again as half is for early July and half is for late.

What Snigg said. Going to be a doozy! I imagine that if you need some things spread out that customer service would help you out. Shoot them an e-mail and ask.

That's a good idea, I may just do that. Thanks for the advice.

I should hopefully be able to afford everything, as long as there aren't any unforseen expenses in the next few months. My children are just lucky they don't exist, because there's a decent chance I'll put my hobby before luxuries like food and clothing.

I raised this concern as well.

Especially for people going to these conventions. It isn't a time that Pazio should be playing catch up. If they have trouble keeping up with the schedule then they might want to consider that the new stuff being released is where its at and not "try" to get on schedule.

Set a realistic schedule that can be held. Not everyone is on a budget but there are a lot that are.

I'm on a budget too, in November when we didn't get a AP or chronicles I put the $28 I would have spent on them in the bank and decided not to touch it until after the APs were caught up. Because of this I actually gained a few cents spending money @ Gencon. (Hey 3 cents is 3 cents)

Uh-oh, here comes "the GenCon shipment". Hope the tax refunds arrives before that...

Effectively, this is what I do as well. I use budgeting software and know what my "average" cost is per month. Anything extra that I spend on Paizo.com is calculated separately from the monthly shipments. Because of this the amount in the Shipment "account" varies on a monthly basis and is usually really high until June-August when the entire fund goes back to nearly zero.

As much as I wish Paizo would stay on schedule throughout the year, I've just accepted that they won't be on schedule until July of each year and then that schedule will get backed up again (usually with September or October of the same year).

I used to budget by putting the money into a separate account now I just buy gift certs every couple of weeks and add them to my account. At least the money is put away somewhere where I don't have to pay attention to it then.

Looking at the subscription-page, they seem to split the July-shipments into early July and late July if that's any consolation.

I have a Budget of just over $100 to take advantage of the shipping discount. Usually the first week of every month.

When thiings get moved around I make sure it's still above $100 to take advantage of it.

Why? If the items are going to cost me $70 to $80 I figure buy $30 to $20 worth of product so I end up paying $2 shipping instead of $12. That way more of the $110 I have budgeted is going to product rather than shipping to Alaska.

Yet when a product slips, which really isn't my issue, they will still say such and such is going to be released when they announce a new product. Rather than have it realistically a month later since they basically just had every thing pushed back ( maybe not every thing but close).

I think i am just frustrated right now because I have suspended my subscriptions and am contemplating canceling them all except PF Tales and maybe core rules. But the core rules I can get 15% off at a local store and just purchase the PDF from Pazio. Which would still be cheaper than full price and shipping from Pazio.

Or even just going to PDF for everything since I usually don't read the physical product.

I made it through last Gencons schedule and probably would make it through this year. The fact that August is light doesn't really help. You still have to get the money earlier out of the particular month of July with also money for going to Gencon.

Oh well. It's like crack Pazio's material. ;-)

See if only my friends understood this. They all benifit from my constant spending on Pazio's material and yet they poke fun of me for how much I spend here. Though I am unemployed so...they might have a point...like crack I tell you.

Paizo goodness for July (arrives end of month in New Zealand)!

BRING IT ON!

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

Normally, we plan to ship out the releases for a given month during the first or second week of that month, so that subscribers and retailers have them by the third or fourth week of that month. (Circumstances sometimes force us to change those plans, but that's normally the goal.)

However, the retail release date for our August products is always the first day of Gen Con, and this year, that's August 4. Because it's falling so early in the month, in order to get the shipments to most subscribers before the release date, our August releases must actually ship from our warehouse at the end of July.

So, assuming our plans hold:

  • The July products will ship first week of July with a July 13 street date.
  • The August products will ship last week of July with an August 4 street date.
  • The September products will ship early September with a mid-September street date.

Well if they are enjoying the games you are running, would it be unreasonable for them to buy some gift tokens for you here? I know that might be a touchy subject for some, though...

I'll note that store credit, which gift certificates provide, can be used for subscriptions now. :D

The budget idea is the way to go. Every year it seems Paizo is scrambling (right about now) to get as much new products as they can for GenCon. The gear up must be fairly taxing and their entire staff is pretty much out for a week with most likely a lot of time spent beforehand on the details of actually going.

After GenCon you will notice a sharp decline of products. It takes them about three months to get back on their feet and reach their monthly dollar figure sweet spot.
