Awesome. Can't wait.

Likewise. Jeffrey Swank, how would I go submitting monsters to you for inclusion? I recently did all of the psionic dragons from the Psionic Bestiary (because my girlfriend and I are playing psionic dragons)

In my monster classes I simplified the attribute gains. After wyrmling, on the hit die in which you gain an age category (since it is 2hd per age category) all physical attribute adjustments are gained. On the other hit die all mental attribute and natural armour adjustments are gained.

It really does simplify the process that way, and makes it easy to reuse the same base table.

I also spread the psionic manifesting up a little. So manifesting isn't any greater at great wyrm, but starts younger. This is based on my own experience with your red dragon and being bored out of my nutter when breath weapon was on cool down. Breath weapon or claws is not really that fun.

It does, however, work quiet well :-)

So excited to see the eventual update XD also would love to see Skaerens psionic dragon class.

For which dragon?
Cryptic dragon
Imagos Dragon
Keris Dragon
Lorican Dragon
Scourge Dragon

Nice.

We need folks to start GMing with this wonderful piece of work.

That would be awesome Animator. I have been really pouring over the document. Updating its look, format, adding in racial traits, new class features, archetypes, magic items and such. =)

With such a huge document and so many creatures it might still be awhile before I get it completed.

Like they say, you can't rush genius.

Extra Nice.

I would not mind giving a hand on archetypes for classes, or ideas for alternate racial traits and feats.
(Made my own racial substitution levels and feats for my own custom races)

My players would love to see a Gug in there, favorites at the table.

Been following your post and your work, just amazing.

The last link though does not work.

Can you share it to me at Markdmkc@gmail.com or post another link?

So far loving this.

Well we did get a game going with some of these in it, as I said in the previous post they were gestalt. We ended up with a leonal druid, astral deva fighter and a solar cleric. The main players were the druid and fighter and the cleric was there randomly. We started at 1 and got to level 3, with that time in I can say that its definitely better for a gish set up. It didn't feel like they would have had a lot of variation if we only played savage alone. Other then that the players really enjoyed the mixing, unfortunately(for me) the fighter got a new job and no longer is available to play. Anyways keep up the good work, I'm trying to get another group going with this as the set up. Decided to start them in a gladiator pit and see how it goes from there. Thanks again.

Well me and my DM have figured to give these a try in his new evil campaign. Im going to be a red dragon familiar of a party wizard lol.

Anywho we had a question.

The feats given are those in addition to those regularly given every three levels to PC's or are those what the monsters get.

Thanks for your time and hard work!

If it's a bonus feat, it's as per the 3 levels. If it's a named feat, it's what the monster gets.

Contributor

Hey Mark, thanks for the interest! I hope they work well with your campaign.

Kevin is correct--the feat listed in the monster class table is the feat that a normal character would be receiving every odd level. Monster PC's do not get an additional feat every other level, nor do they receive the bonus ability points.

So far this is the latest update Version24

It is the same as the link above--if you find any miss calculations, editing errors or odd things while playing, please let me know. Again, I have been working hard to update each and every entry. They will have all new art, clean new format, racial feats and stuff. =)

The link just takes me to my own Google Drive. And the previous link takes me to v23.

Awesome thanks for the reply!

Were going to be a group led by a PC Cleric of Bane after Bane comes back.

We will have a Quickling Monk, me the Red Dragon, a human wizard and human cleric of bane and then another rogue, no idea what race.

This is just epic, cant wait to level up a few times as a freaking red dragon haha!

I'm actually extremely curious how you guys are getting this to work. In 3.5, to get a red dragon familiar, you had to be CL 12 and have the Draconic Familiar feat. Are you guys just doing a fluff version?

Is this Version23.2? Because the last link, on the previous page, was also called v23. Just curious.

I still protest that if you're doing odd number stats (ie. +3 Str), something's not being done right. They should always be in increments of 2. The Awakened Dire Ape is a perfect example. At 2 HD it only gets +2 Dex. Why? Because it gets +3 Str at 1 HD and 3 HD.

Contributor

Yeah, I was working off of exact numbers when I first started--those numbers are being corrected.

Good to know.

Have you done Kython yet? The weird, evolving alien-ish creatures from the Book of Vile Darkness?

I liked the descriptions of those creatures, but sadly I never got to use them. :(

I don't know why, I just suddenly wanted to use the buggers, and darn it, I'm going to!

Im really loving this book, thanks everyone that worked on it. Speaking of which I have a fun little half-dragon and half-troll characters I need to make.

For we just need to add the half-fiend template and celestial.

Any chance for a were-rabbit?

Kevin! I was thinking in a situation where you have a +6 to a stat and only 2 levels to divide it between...+3 and +3, boom odd numbers. lol

Azten--not sure about adding those lil guys, but I'll take a look at them tonight. lol

Teiidae--I worked on a version of the half-fiend/celestial by levels a while ago and wasn't happy with the outcome. I will revisit them this weekend and see if I can noodle them until I feel they are correct...or just post them and see hwat you guys can suggest.

Skaeren--lol cracking me up, but I may just "bounce" one of those out.

You show me a creature that only gets a +6 to one stat and absolutely nothing else, and I will concede. It's more likely that it's going to be +2 at level 1, with all of the other minute abilities the creature has, and +4 at 2nd level.

Yes. Regardless of how many levels you have to break things up into, abilities should always be broken up into multiples of +2.

BTW, just wanted to say I like what you've done/are doing Jeff. I've always been of the mind that monsters should be allowed to be PCs, and their monster levels should be broken down into "racial class" levels if you will. While the old Savage Species had the right idea, I didn't like how they had levels without an increase to HD. Though, they do that with animal companions and eidolons, so there is precedence.

Back in 2E/3.5, we used various monsters as PCs. Minotaurs, Quicklings, and Derro (plus drow, but they've become more common now) were our favorites.

Good job!

Why? Because it's always been that way?

@Jeffrey: thanks!

In 3rd Edition and its derivatives, yes. It's for the same reason that feats with ability requirements should always be odd.

That's only so there's a reason to have odd numbers.

Bumping this guy back to the top

Contributor

lol thanks Animator! Keep me in line! I have edited/revised and added to about 30 entries so far, but have 100+ to finish. (Wow, there's a lot)

Keep up the great work, made two characters with this so far and want to make more. I'm just hoping for more half-templates to be converted into racial levels.

Agreed, but looking at the ones that were done, I assume a human parent, when it should have a Parent base options.

Example, I did using ARG.

Giving the tread a needed bump.

Giving another bump for Christmas games

lol thanks RHMG! In the mix of RPGSS, so might not see an update for awhile. =(

@Jeffrey Swank
I hope you like my suggestion above about Parent base options.

I just found this thread and downloaded the PDF, flipped through a few pages til I got to the dragons. Was it just me, or did anyone see the dragon stats and immediately want to dig out their Council of Wyrms boxes?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I don't need to dig out mine. Both the box and the hardback are easily to hand. :)

Actually, the dragon stats confused me. The silver dragon entry, for example, has them start with a movement speed of 40...but never mentions even once their fly speed, when they get it, when it changes, etc. Same thing for the phenomenal dragon senses...do they just start with them at 1HD, or do they get it at wyrmling at HD7, or what?

Contributor

Hey thegreenteagamer, the dragons flight speed change with size category and referenced on the Dragons splash page before each types entry. So as the graph shows:Size Fly Speed
(maneuverability)

Tiny 100 ft. (average)
Small 150 ft. (average)
Medium 150 ft. (average)
Large 150 ft. (average)
and so on...
