Undead masquerading as Human

Good evening to all of you. Welcome to the OOC thread for our Carrion Crown adventure. Once you've all posted here as ready to go, we'll do a quick mechanical check of sheets and open things up. I know all your characters were written for Crypt of the Everflame. Part of the initial circumstances of that module include basic equipment being given to you. I'll do something similar here. I tend to gift the basic gear to characters in my games, so it works out fine. So, equipment to add to your sheets, free of charge:

  • backpack
  • bedroll or hammock
  • waterskin
  • 1 day's rations
  • flint & steel
  • dagger
  • sack

If you need to make some additional equipment purchases, you can do that now or wait until we're in-game. Should work either way. House rules will be posted here if/when they come up, and I'll keep a running list in my GM profile as well.

I'm looking forward to running this AP with you. Thanks for signing on.

  • Thank you for running it. My backstory will be coming up here within the next 12-15 hours. Probably sooner, maybe later.

M Human Barbarian 1, invulnerable rager

alright, profile should pretty much be set. i may want to buy a few more things, but i think everything else is good to go.

I believe I am all set. My back-story for Carion Crown is done. I believe I have all my equipment. I will double check and buy equipment on game time if necessary.

Male Half-Orc Ranger (Skirmisher, Guide) Level 1

When I can get the time, I'll replace my background with one more towards carrion crown. Basically same story, replace the ranger from the other one with the professor.

At that time, I'll change my Wisdom in Flesh trait to Chance Survivor. Other than that, currently everything is set. (till we get into higher levels and skirmisher takes effect.)

    Male Half-Orc Wizard (Conjurer) 5 {HP 34/34; AC 15, T 11, FF 14; F+3 R+3 W+6/+8 vs. fear effects; Init+1; Perc+12} {Effects: Mage Armor}

This is Max Hellspont's character - Korvus Slade, Half-Orc Conjurer - currently a work in progress. I should be up and running within the next day.

Thanks for including me in this!

Half-Orc Conjurer you say? Looks a bit like a Bothan to me. :P

I can point one thing out off the bat. Using average starting gold by class, you've already hit a minor snag. A falchion and a light crossbow (without bolts) totals at 110gp, while a Wizard only has 70gp to start with. Even if we shifted things to use max starting gold, you wouldn't have enough for a spellbook. :(

    Shadow Lodge

    Undead masquerading as Human

Sorry. Accidentally forgot to include this earlier.

  • Smiley, you're good to go.
  • Dzae, also ready to go.
  • Virgil, pending edits.
  • Korvus, pending edits/additions.
  • Deidre, pending additions. Also, a couple of things looked a bit off. You sheet says Mwk Chain shirt and Light Steel Shield. That doesn't reduce your speed, and the ACP on that should be -2, not -3.

  • Ah, yes - but being under a medium load accounts for both those things, and I'm currently under a medium load. So the Masterwork Chain Shirt is doing me exactly no good whatsoever. I suppose that's something I should change...When I get my backstory up this morning, I'll probably do that, if that's OK. That's a lot of money I could spend elsewhere.

Good catch! That's what I get for working on a character at 1:00 AM! Will revise everything accordingly.

A few changes have been made to my sheet, and my backstory has been added.

I believe Korvus' stats are ready for inspection. I just need to finish his background and description.

    Shadow Lodge

    Undead masquerading as Human

Deidre, cleared for play. Korvus, cleared mechanically. When you have time, the background and description stuff. Virgil is more or less ready mechanically (just the one trait edit) so I'll get the IC thread up this afternoon (PST) and we'll go from there.

This should be interesting - 3 of the 5 party members are conspiculously not good-aligned. Hmm!

    Are we doing encumbrance rules?

I sort of just assumed we were.

    I've fixed the trait.

Once I figure out how tall I want this guy, I;ll put that in as well.

    Shadow Lodge

    Undead masquerading as Human

We will be using encumbrance rules, terrain rules, weather rules, etc. :)

We do have an IC thread now. It can be found here: Link

Please post when you're ready. What you initially see will be pretty much the same across the board, and you'll arrive in whatever order you end up posting. I'll be checking in at least once a day, often twice. A couple of requests I'd like to make for posts in the IC thread.

    - Please try to keep OOC talk in this thread as much as possible.
    - In combat situations, please post your action as well as a potential alternate action. Example: Dzae draws his rapier, shifts 5 feet and attacks the opponent in square X. If that enemy is down or out of range, Dzae draws his shortbow and plants an arrow in the chest of the nearest enemy not engaged in melee.
    - My style preference is for speech to be posted in bold. It helps to set speech off from actions a bit. Example: Clint sneaks up behind the Goblin, then taps him on the shoulder and says, "Boo!"
    - Have fun. This is not a request. This is a rule. Those who violate this rule will be flogged until they enjoy themselves. :)

    Other general notes:

    - General links, like to common area maps (towns you're in, regions, etc.) or NPC images will have links stored in my GM profile
    - Any house-rules, if they come up, will be posted here and a running list will be maintained in my GM profile for easy reference.
    - Your character sheets are linked in my GM profile for easy reference, as are the OOC and IC threads.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here and I'll answer them as soon as I see them. Let's get this party started. :)

Male Half-Orc Ranger (Skirmisher, Guide) Level 1

When I say brother, I don't mean literal brother, I mean more of a racial brother.

And yes, Virgil is almost werewolf like in appearance. That's what his beastial racial thing is for.

Male Half-Orc Ranger (Skirmisher, Guide) Level 1

Ack.. when I posted I thought we were moving as a group ><

But I have sent! Lets go with that! I like totally smelled ya.

excuse me while i silently facepalm and derp in this corner here. :(

Virgil, you assumed we were already standing with you as one party when the GM clearly stated that we arrive in the order of our posts and you were first. By directing a comment to Korvus before he had posted you tied his creative hands as you had attempted to tie all of ours by referring to your "companions." I dislike attempts to control other players so my post reveals you to be actually talking to no one.

M Human Barbarian 1, invulnerable rager

dude, that was unnecessarily harsh. he screwed up, it happens no big deal. all of our creative outlets are somewhat circumscribed by the very nature of playing in a group game. a lot of these play by posts fall apart, and i don't think being adversarial with other players is going to help it last longer.

i'm not trying to tie anyone's creative hands, but maybe we could be a little gentler with people messing up?

Fair enough. Perhaps I have played too many games where a domineering player or GM ruined the game by trying to control other player to fit their idea of the story. I just wanted to make sure that didn't happen here.

Male Half-Orc Ranger (Skirmisher, Guide) Level 1

Like I said, I thought we were moving as some sort of group. if I could, I would delete/edit my post and fix the problem.

I'll try to be more careful to make sure I don't miss an important sentence that completely alters things I'd do winding up in me having another derp moment.

well as things are.. I've got something. Since I'm clearly talking to nobody and looking at nobody, Virgil is clearly unhinged. Works well with "guide".

    Shadow Lodge

    Undead masquerading as Human

An honest mistake is just that. I didn't exactly make that sentence stand out from the rest of the post. We'll just continue as if Virgil is unhinged at times, if that's what Ævux likes. If not, we'll act as if it was stricken from the record.

For future, if you there is a question or concern, please direct it to me and I'll deal with it as appropriate. If you'd like the message to be private, my e-mail is profusehairboy@gmail.com. I'll also link that in my GM profile.

    Shadow Lodge

    Undead masquerading as Human

Okay, I have to ask while I'm laughing here. Are you serious? Not knocking playing an unhinged character, I'm mostly curious if that's how far you want to take it.

Male Half-Orc Ranger (Skirmisher, Guide) Level 1

Yep, I'm going to take it about that far. After all, as a guide I get terrain bond. Hence why I said it would work well as a guide.

Granted most of the time it won't be outbursts like this, mostly little comments. Like "that torch is making fun of my mom" then "Be quite! My mom isn't a crackwhore." The reason crackwhore is because fire kinda sound like that with the crackle noises. Course I'll be looking for something more appropriate for pathfinder to use as a crackle sounding word. But the end result will be quite funny when there really is something there, and I'm the only one who can sense it.

    sound clip

Haven't quite got the thing just right yet but its close enough.

    Shadow Lodge

    Undead masquerading as Human

Okay. I definitely wanted to check on that. If it gets to the point that it's disruptive, I will ask you to tone it down. Until then, knock yourself out. Here's a list of sample drugs from the Gamemastery Guide. I might suggest using Shiver in place of Crack.

    -Aether
    -Dwarven Fire Ale
    -Elven Absinthe
    -Flayleaf
    -Opium
    -Pesh
    -Scour
    -Shiver
    -Zerk

Well its not so much the drug, just the onomatopoeia..

While he is unhinged, his comments and rants have to do something with what he is talking to/at/about.

Since he is wolf like, (scratching out "looking at the other half-orc") a 'dog'wood could still be brother like to him.

    Mushrooms are fungi (fun guy)

    A weeping willow..

Out of the list of just drugs there, Zerk kinda sounds most like crackle.. Though i guess you could make the argument that a torch could "say" shiver.

That will probably be the biggest outburst like that for a while. A good joke is one that isn't constantly being thrown in the forefront all the time.

But I am kinda alarmed at Æther being a drug.

Max, I shouldn't be surprised at all by this, but... I love your character already! Deidre is native to the area, so she may start out a bit suspicious...but she will come around!

I just want to point out that the time it posted as Ævux was because of a glitch. I didn't notice until now that the forums undid my default alias.

    I'm sorry.

    Shadow Lodge

    Undead masquerading as Human

These things happen. The board system isn't always perfect and it does that sometimes. We'll just try to keep track of who's who for when cases like that do occur.

    Male Human Uber Nerd

Hey Jlighter - Dzae seems to have forgotten to mention this (And I will talk to him at work on Tuesday) but he MAY be out of commission this weekend, he has to fly up to visit his family and take care of some business. I know he wont be at work again till Tuesday, so I dont know if he will be posting or not. Just an FYI.

    Shadow Lodge

    Undead masquerading as Human

Thanks for the heads-up. We should be able to work around that. DMPC does occur, although I won't know the character as well as he does.

As a note to all for the future, though. If situations do come up, and you have enough warning, please give me a heads-up letting me know if/when I'll need to DMPC for a bit, or if you'll be having a substitute stand in for you. Any notes that would help with running the character during an absence would also be appreciated.

    Shadow Lodge

And to clarify your WTF from the IC thread, Stomphoof, see above in this thread. Master Virgil has opted to play a character with some slight disconnectivity issues in the brain-pan.

    Yeah.. I'm the comic relief.

Unfortunately, I can't use the next part of that joke really... where I casually throw out a pair of bear arms, or cover my bare arms.

It really is an amazing chance that he is a survivor..

    Thanks Jer!

You know, I hadn't planned to apply for a Carrion Crown game, but I saw that you were going to be participating in this one and thought, "Hey! If Jer is in this one then I've gotta get in on the action, because it's sure to be fun!" And now I've had the inspiration to come up with (what I think at least) will be a very interesting character to play. So thanks for helping to guide me in this direction!

And to everyone else I'd just like to say that all of the characters look fantastic and have the potential for so many interesting role-playing opportunities. I can't wait to see how this PbP progresses!

I'm personally a fan of a the idea of pince-nez and a bowler hat on that avatar of yours. :)

I know! Wouldn't that be awesome?

Hey stomp, thanks for the reminder, but me being out of town probably is not going to be an issue as I do have web access here. Monday is the only day I am still concerned about.

Ævux, Just wanted to make it clear that I was merely having an in-character reaction to someone mentioning zombies at a funeral. Had it been one of the others, they'd have received an equally icy response from Deidre.

I am Ustalavian (Ustalavic?), though, so I will be inclined to be a little predisposed against half-orcs - until you guys prove otherwise, which I know you will. I hope nobody takes offense!

Oh I know, I pretty much expected someone to say "that's rude" when I wrote it. I did however realize though its hard to type speech words for a character who is both intelligent, but really only had about a year that he was learning to be a civil person.

Well figured out what caused the glitch.. Posting at work. Screws everything up a bit.

Badger,I was not disbelieving or suspicious of the rolls (I had already looked at them). I trust you to run it fairly. I was simply annoyed that the character that I designed to be quick thinking and quick acting was slow the very first confrontation. So I role played it by giving him a moment of fumbling to explain it.

    Shadow Lodge

    Undead masquerading as Human

No worries. I didn't actually think you were disbelieving, more just "shocked," as it were. I just posted that in case people wanted to see the rolls.

Even the farmers moved faster than the both of us.. That's why you can never trust a farmer.

AEvux, is Virgil going to do anything? I was just wondering, since it has been over 33 hours since Werebadger rolled the Initives and you posted on the OOC a couple of hours ago.

    Shadow Lodge

    Undead masquerading as Human

And short combat is short. Not even a full round of actions.

I was waiting till a few other people who where before me went. Pretty much exactly for this.
