I’m around, I’ve just been waiting to let people do what they want before I go - don’t want to ruin anyone’s plans. It’s rude of me to skip ahead of everyone in the block, every turn.

Okay, so, let's save Khalbar!
GM Dak |
Will give Nyx through tonight before I bot to move us forward.
@Bart I think your bomb would not have done splash damage to the one goblin. Bombs are always a bit confusing with the whole misdirection, but let me clarify my thoughts and anyone else is welcome to chime in if I am missing something. So misdirection has the bomb flying off behind the goblin toward the tent. On a 1 of fall short it would have been at the diagonal from where you are throwing so 4 rotates it around behind the target. Since you are throwing 2 range increments it goes two spaces away from the intended target so explodes on the other side of the tent. As such, the splash damage wouldn't hit the goblin.
Bartholomew Valdemar II |
Oh! I forgot about the range increment increasing the miss zone - thank you for catching that!
Nyx Xyn |
Hey all, with the holidays all officially behind us I can re-commit to posting 1/day minimum. Thank you for understanding during my absence. Botting was perfect; inspire courage + guidance are my staples at this time. Happy new year! I look forward to participating in this classic adventure.

I agree with this interpretation, and I also agree that it is often overlooked or misunderstood. Thanks for catching it!

So, this hasn't become relevant yet but since it just became relevant in another game I am running, thought I would get us discussing and finalizing it now so it is ready when we get there.
In order to expedite exploration in the future, specifically in dungeons I need a few things from the group for consensus.
1) What is your standard marching order? IE what order are people heading down a hallway, is there any spacing between people?
2) Is anyone checking for traps in the hallway and how? IE someone with trap sense going first to try and sense traps, just slowly taking the time to Perception each square or giving an a quick glance perception?
3) How are you going to handle closed doors? IE is someone going to check for traps, listen at the door, etc
4) If the door is locked and/or trapped what would you normally do? IE pick the lock, bash in the door, or disable device or use unseen servant to spring the trap, etc.
If we can get this settled it should make any upcoming exploration a bit faster. The assumption would be that you do these standard procedures each time unless specifically noted otherwise.
Adarion Ysavil |
1) Adarion is pretty squishy. He'll be behind some of the more robust members of the group when marching. He won't be on the person in front's heel but he'll likely be within 5-10ft depending on the situation.
2) I'd have to say this is situation dependent for Adarion. Going into a known dangerous location he's likely to be on the lookout for enemies and traps but would probably still be in formation with the rest of the group, i.e. behind the tougher characters. Walking down a street in Sandpoint, he wouldn't be expecting any traps and wouldn't be looking for them. He is inquisitive though and would be looking around for anything that might catch his attention; interesting people or objects etc.
3) Again, it would be situation dependent. If he knows there's a potential danger behind it, he'd give a quick check for traps and try to figure out what's happening on the other side by listening. He'd defer to more capable characters for thorough searches, i.e. he'd have a quick check but if someone else is more perceptive/better at finding traps he'd allow them to do a more detailed check.
4) If he has a spell that can help and nobody else can deal with it, he'd use that. If he's running low on spells/magic he might try to conserve some in case he needs to use it for something else.
Sorry if it's a little vague, but it's hard to say exactly what he'd do before knowing the situation.
Gudada Purrun |
Sorry, work went late yesterday, getting me home basically in time to leave for my Boy Scout Troop meeting, and then when I got home my wife had passed out and I had to be on formal grandchild watching duty until Mom got back from work, and by that time it was 2 hours after my bed time . . ..
Today I'm just tired.
As for your questions:
I expect Gudada to be playing trap finder and spotter, so I'm afraid that means normally in front and hopefully with a little spacing.
I'm going to take the free Perception check Rogue Trick at level 2, so, hopefully that will keep us moving faster while still actually getting a full check as we move.
I would prefer to check doors (for traps [disable if required], whether locked [disable if required]) and then let somebody else open them.
Khalbar Bloodsong |
Khal will be at or near the front of any marching order.
I defer the rest of the questions to the rest of the group. I can't see how any group would actually explore every square of the dungeon searching for traps, and ever complete anything.
Khalbar will help open locked, stuck door if there is no other alternative. He will also likely volunteer to trigger traps if there is no other alternative.
Nyx Xyn |
Nyx will literally always prepare detect magic and, well, obsessively cast it. He'll eagerly concentrate on any auras detected (besides ones he already knows about; party gear) and use Spellcraft/Knowledge Arcana to figure out as much as he can.
Nyx is wise enough to not stay clumped up (in "fireball formation"), so he'd preferably stay ~10-15' away from whoever's up front. Around a corner if possible.
If the party is trying to be sneaky he may need to be reminded that spellcasting is conspicuous.
Bartholomew Valdemar II |
Bartholomew would prefer to be just behind the melee fighters since bombs don't have the best range. No preference on how we handle doors or traps as long as the party doesn't expect him to deliberately trigger one.
Sven Juttebar |
Just noticed that we've got a very good loot sheet - thanks Dak!
1) For my part, until Sven gets his level of ranger, he's going to be a secondline dude.
2) After that, he'll assist Gudada with trapfinding (literally assisting his rolls to search and disable).
3) I assume we'll check for traps on all doors. Sven will have very high perception skills, so he should be able to find most if Gudada can't.
4) If the door is locked and trapped, Sven has spontaneous summons potentially, which could bash it down.
FYI, At some point (6+), he'll spend most of the game time as a large creature (a giant) so we'll have to I guess figure out how to fit him. He can stay in the back to guard everyone, as his move speed should be pretty high and he'll have spellslinging too.
Nyx Xyn |
Hey all, I myself had a much busier day than usual out running errands and such, and now my weekly home game just went an hour+ past our normal time and I need to sleep. I'll get a post up tomorrow when I'm awake.
Nyx Xyn |
Hey all, I need to apologize for disappearing. I got really really sick. I feel terrible for just disappearing like that though. I was hoping to get caught back up on my games tonight but I still don’t feel well and have no motivation. I’m thinking one more good night’s rest and I’ll be feeling well enough to go through everything I missed since the weekend. I’m really sorry.

Quick heads-up: I have a guest coming over for Valentine’s Day on Wednesday night to spend a couple days. I will be sure to post Wednesday but I won’t be able to post Thursday and maybe not Friday. Depending on where we’re at in-game tomorrow I’ll try to post potential actions or botting options. If we’re just at an RP point I might just need to catch up over the weekend.
Gudada Purrun |
Apologies.
Camp out with the Scouts last weekend took far more out of me than I expected. Then the normal Scouting schedule, some extra demands from work, wife's been sick, etc.
I'm seeing what I can catch-up on and get through tonight.
GM Dak |
So with Adarion mentioning putting down a spell, I went ahead and dropped an image, but I was thinking about going through and making some templates for other common spells. Wanted to get your thoughts on what would be beneficial from a template standpoint? So far have Grease, Fireball and Color Spray both at 45 and 90 degree angles and fireball.
These would essentially be tokens you could drop down on the map to show where you were casting them.
Adarion Ysavil |
That sounds good to me. Makes it easier for everyone to see what's happening without missing targets or causing friendly fire (and the retcons etc. this would cause).
GM Dak |
When someone gets a chance can you go to the Journal Tab in Roll20 on the right hand side (looks kind of like a newspaper) and see if you can see the spell templates and more importantly if you can click/drag one onto the map and adjust it or not.
Adarion Ysavil |
I tried moving the spell tokens by selecting the name and dragging it out onto the map but it didn't seem to work for me. I could see them all in the journal tab though. They look great, especially color spray!
Nyx Xyn |
Hey all, I’m off on a last-minute road trip out into the west desert after just finishing a big/stressful work project. I’ll make some time to update soon.
Nyx Xyn |
Hey all, I'm back from my road trip. I apologize again for taking off with such short notice. I have my home group Adventure Path tonight that I'm getting ready for now. And a few things I need to do tomorrow morning. But I'll get caught up and posting in gameplay by tomorrow evening/night.

Welcome back!
@Everyone Roll20 recently released the RotRL AP module. I picked it up and went ahead and created a new Roll20 game for us to use. Login when you get a chance and remind me of your Roll20 name.
I've already adjusted the Link at the top and in my GM header.
Thanks!
