Broken Zenith,

I admire the passion that you have for having a complete guide to builds and classes. However, you're cluttering up the thread by announcing (as often as you do) that you've added these guides to your compendium. Could you please limit yourself to posting about how you've added links to your comprehensive guides guide? Please feel free to contribute to this thread in other ways, but perhaps once or twice every 50 posts would be sufficient to announce updates, don't you think?

Respectfully,
- Bodhi

Thus sayeth the thread police. (And don't anyone point out that he's cluttering up the thread asking people not to clutter up the thread with their useful links.)

Shadow Lodge

If you like. I think that people like hearing that their guides have been added, particularly since the list on the first page of the thread isn't updated anymore. I'm not sure that keeping this thread short is of particular importance, particularly because it seems to be a place mostly for searches and getting guides on lists.

I could be wrong though. Does anybody else care one way or another, particularly those who post guides? I'll happily stop if it's clear that it's bothering people, but I thought that I was being helpful by letting authors know that their work was being linked in a compendium.

If we don't hear from anybody else, feel free to send me a personal message, as I think we can both agree we don't need to clutter up the thread with this :)

I find it helpful to have Broken Zenith post about his guide with some frequency - I know it exists, but I don't always remember who created it (sorry, BZ), so searching for it is tricky (searching for a "guides guide" in a thread all about guides), and I'm not always on the same computer to have it bookmarked. So having regular links to it appear is helpful to me.

I just hope it doesn't use up all the electrons Paizo has purchased to store their website on.

I agree. I find it more helpful when Broken Zenith posts, especially more frequently. I have this thread and Zenith's guide bookmarked and I check both regularly. All the guides are added to the front of the thread, so there is no real need to go through page by page. I simply click the last page and check for updates and the proceed back to the first page or to Zeniths Guide.

@Khelreddin: Your avatar reminds me of "Underwater Welder".

Here's another guide for the list.

Summon Good Monster: A Closer Look (a review of creatures available with the feat "Summon Good Monster" from Champions of Purity).

Liberty's Edge

BZ, I find your posting useful because it helps me keep up to date with which guides are in.

Which I cannot do just with your comprehensive guide to guide unless it would show what the latest additions are (either through showing the date of addition, using a different color or both, ie what Paizo does for the FAQ).

BTW, I vote for doing both !!!

Shadow Lodge

Welp - I added them, and, unless anybody objects, I'm gonna talk about it! Nice work guys.

Comprehensive Guide to the Guides

I have no problem with BZ posting his updates.

Since the first post can't be edited anymore, I appreciate knowing when BZ adds to his list - I go straight to it if there's something in particular I'm looking for and read the new posts on this thread to find out about new guides I haven't already read.

Liberty's Edge

I also appreciate the update posts (and the links). :)

I also like it when BZ regularly posts updates. Sorry Bodhizen.

I prefer having updates from BZ too. Just for suspense, is anyone here currently working on a guide?

I think TarkXT is working on a guide to the care and feeding of the action economy. I think he has in mind an eventual ten-volume decatology on tactics, to be submitted as a degree thesis at the École Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr.

It's going to be good, too. Unusually for me, there's no sarcasm in the previous sentence.

Any idea who wrote that?

That would be me, why?

Shadow Lodge

Thanks guys! I actually might try my hand at a Ninja Guide once work slows down. Love the class, and I think there is only 1 guide on it for the moment.

FYI, there were some formatting errors cropping up on the Comprehensive Guide to the Guides, but I took a few hours yesterday and basically re-wrote the whole thing. There shouldn't be any more of those errors, but feel free to leave me a comment there if you guys notice anything strange.

Shadow Lodge

I noticed that my old guide is up there, (which is perfectly fine by me), but note it is something I started years ago, prior to most of Paizo's books, and after I deployed, I just never really got back to it. It also doesn't follow so much the other style of color codes so much, and is kind of sarcastic/funny, and involves a lot of personal experience, so grain of salt.

PS, I might actually take a look and start to update it now.

If anybody is taking requests, I'd like to see a guide to the mammoth rider (paths of prestige). It's a very good PrC, more people should know about it, and there are many ways to qualify. I'd like to know which is most optimal.

Why not write one yourself?

Lack of discussion topic and lack of anything indicating who wrote it. There were a few things I noted when reading it, but can't remember any except "improved share spells doesn't require share spells, which is of note for anyone that got their AC through a Cavalier+Horse Master hit and run" (and now the Animal Companion archetypes from Animal Archive).

edit: and neither Druid guide, nor the guide you linked to, seem to mention AC feat choices beyond "what does int 3 do" like you mention are as far as i see.

Shadow Lodge

If anyone is interested, I have done a quite a bit of updating my Guide since I last posted, and will continue to add more options and opinions from the newer material as I have time.

Here is the link

Is anyone interested in a Discussion thread for the Guide?

I'm also considering adding the following

1.) A more comprehensive Feat section
2.) A section about Deities (including Empyreal Lords and the like, as well as some notes on Philosophies.
3.) A section about Domains and Subdomains
4.) A section on Archtypes and a few note on Multiclassing (going to happen)
5.) Including more spells from PF legal, but more obscure sources
6.) Some general build options.
7.) Anything else? Suggestions?

What do you think? Good idea, bad idea?

Okay, but...
you rated astral projection as only okay? Wha?!? It's one of the most overpowered spells in the game! Leave your body on a private demiplane and you are completely immortal. Go storm the Abyss, you can't be killed. Why isn't this rated as a must-have?

Shadow Lodge

Not so much. You can do that, but then you can't interact with much, even through spells (which will be cast on the astral plane and not affect the material plane or any other planes you can get to). If it where handled more like Astral Projection in VtM, more a short term investigation sort of thing, but as is it seems incredibly underpowered for it's spell level. It also notes that you leave your body one on Material Plane, (not some secret Demiplane) and reform a new body on other planes. So essentially you can leave your body on the Material Plane, and enter the Astra Plane (sort of as a ghost), and from there as it is a transient plane connected to most others) can go to most other planes. However, unless you materialize on those planes, you can't actually do anything but watch. If you do materialize, you are actually there, and can die, which send you back to your original body, nets you 2 negative levels, and ends the spell.

Also too many horror stories about getting lost when you can just Plane Shift (or other more precise spells to the actual Astral Plane. It's mostly another hold over from older editions where it was more mystical and powerful. It's primarily a (mostly) safe way to go explore the planes without risking most of their native dangers, if you don't materialize there.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into it. Regarding the discussion topic, there is (or was) one on this board, of that much I'm certain.

Nice...Thanks

Sovereign Court

I'd like to add the Guide to the Battle Herald

And here is the Discussion Thread

I'll be expanding it over the next few weeks and I'm very open to feedback. A big thanks to everyone who has helped contribute so far!

That's the first Battle Herald guide! Nice work, and added.

Comprehensive Guide to the Guides

It's not my guide, but it looks interesting:
A guide to the Rogue (Pathfinder). Found this while searching on the net.

Is this elegible for inclusion here as well?
I do not know if the author is active in the forums...

Just thought I'd mention that I've done a TON of updating on my Guide to Pathfinder Races over the past few months, and I'm sure there are some people who have been following this thread but not my discussion thread specifically for it.

Having created a Champion of Irori for the Build Thread, I thought it only meet that I create a guide to the Champion of Irori for the Guide Thread as well (Many thanks to those who suggested it).

Fist of the Heavens! A guide to the Champion of Irori

And here is the Discussion Thread

I am just about done, but if there is something that people want me to update/change, I would be more than happy to include it in the guide.

Page 33 of the guide is so fuzzy that it is unreadable.

Nice guide though!!

Errrm, looks fine on my end when I look at it on google drive. Perhaps downloading the file (its a pdf) will improve the quality (I do know that google drive has messed up the text colors the the original file hand, so downloading will fix that.)

Zenith, do you have a link to this Swordlord archetype guide? Maybe I'm not seeing it, but I couldn't find it on your page.

Silver Crusade

Hey there, I'm currently in the process of making an Alchemist guide, and I'd love to have it added to the list.

I'm hoping to get some critique on it soon, I'm working on the discoveries now.

Shadow Lodge

Great, go them both. Thanks guys!

Also, your link to cartmanbeck's race guide is to a very early version.

Here's an updated link to my Race Guide: LINKY

Not sure why it would have been an old link though.

Some where along the line the discussion thread for the Shadowdancer was dropped. It is:

Silver Crusade

I should mention that my guide now has a discussion page

And in case the sources for which information my guides uses is needed, it would be Core/APG/ARG/UM/UC/UCa/+ (for some of the misc stuff from Champions of Purity and Kobolds of Golarion)

Also, can the title of it be changed to Chasing the Philosopher's Stone: N. Jolly's guide to the Pathfinder Alchemist

Hey, the " The Viking Irishman's Witch Guide" no longer loads...it was working last week, but it suddenly broke. Is this just me?
