More Springsteen covering: Heather Nova does I'm on Fire

I can't believe I forgot The Raincoats do The Kinks!

Later, I'll try to find some awesome version of Prince and the Revolution ripping it up on stage, but for now the recorded version and Prince in his man-bikini is going to have to suffice.

Well, as promised: Prince!

Isaac Hayes does Jimmy Webb.

Hee hee!

I was really into thrash metal when I was going through puberty and I haven't thought of this cover in over 20 years!

Hee hee!

Going thru a second (fifth?, seventeenth?) wave of thrash. Municipal Waste is whats brought me back in again.

Anyway, then youll love this one:

Death Angel pretty faithful cover of "Cold Gin"

Im Bored

Well, heres a new one for me:

Overkill kicking the hell out of "Deuce"

Yo La Tengo does Bob.

Rammstein does Kraftwerk.

Entombed doing Night of the vampire.

A recent Covers disc that I burned for a friend:

The District - Firework (Katy Perry Cover)
Lucky Bucks - Wicked Game (Chris Isaak cover)
Ben l'Oncle Soul - Seven Nation Army (White Stripes cover)
Jack White - Love Is Blindness (U2 cover)
U2 - Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Presley cover)
Yoav - Where Is My Mind (Pixies cover)
Glowbug - Maps (Yeah Yeah Yeahs cover)
Toad the Wet Sprocket - Rock and Roll All Night (Kiss cover)
Emery - All I Want (Toad the Wet Sprocket cover)
Ruth - To Be With You (Mr. Big cover)
Allred - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight (Postal Service cover)
James Vincent McMorrow - Higher Love (Steve Winwood cover)
John Legend - Rolling in the Deep (Adele Cover)
Jose Gonzalez - Heartbeats (The Knife cover)

Some covers that i think surpass the original:

Annika Norlin and Anna Järvinen does Robyn - With every heartbeat
Björk and PJ Harvey does The Rolling Stones - Satisfaction
Saint Etienne does Neil Young - Only love can break your heart
16 Horsepower does Creedence Clearwater Revival - Bad moon risin'
and of course Nirvana does Leadbelly - Where did you sleep last night?

Other great covers
Grizzly Bear does The Crystals - He hit me (and it felt like a kiss)
Band of Horses does Grizzly Bear - Plans
Charles Bradley does Nirvana - Stay away
Spiritualized does Oh happy day

And i think the swedish band Bob Hund deserves a their own section:
The Stooges - I wanna be your dog : Cover : Original
Pere Ubu - Final Solution : Cover : Original
Plastic Bertrand - Tout petit la planete : Cover : Original
I'm five years ahead of my time : Cover (bad quality but the only one i found) : I think this is the original

Scarab Sages

Gotthard - The Mighty Quinn (Manfred Mann's Earh Band Cover)

Graham Parker and the Rumour do The Jackson 5

Not that those covers aren't good, but I think you're crazy.

As far as I know, that's the original for "5 Years Ahead"

Haven't seen these two yet (and sorry no links, I'm wiped right now) but:

Type O Negative's takes on Cinnamon Girl and Summer Breeze.
Siouxsie and the Banshee's covers of Dear Prudence (I know blasphemy, but I love her voice) and Trust in Me (yes, Kaa the python's song from the Jungle Book)
The Ramones doing the Speed Racer Theme Song
and Alice Cooper's cover of Jimi Hendrix's Fire.

It looks like I thought of six, oh well.

It's only blasphemy if you try to claim it's better than the original. Otherwise, good call.

The Mekons do Rod Stewart

I would never make that claim.

Incidentally, how about Thin Lizzy's cover of Whiskey in the Jar?

JOHN HENRY GONNA GET YOU!

This is a revisited version of an American folk song, not a cover by a specific artist, but I think the two things are similar enough to post it here. It's also a REALLY good version of the song.

If you don't know how to link, it's fun and easy!

{url=http://whatever]Whatever[/url} except those }s are ]s.

Awesome thread!

I may be burned at the stake for this, but I much prefer Tiamat's version of Sympathy for the Devil to the Rolling Stones original.

Ozzy Osbourne doing John Lennon's Working Class Hero.

1000 Homo DJs doing Black Sabbath's Supernaut

Anthrax doing Black Sabbath's Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

Oh, and to add a little geek to the list:

Epica performing The Imperial March

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Steven Tyler, Weird Al, and Alice Cooper covering The Beatles' Come Together

My favorite cover of Bette Davis' Eyes.

Warning: Here There Be Hippies!

The Allman Brothers Band do Donovan (here with Bobbie Gentry!)

Quicksilver Messenger Service do Bo Diddley.

Angus, Malcolm, Rob, Peter, and BON SCOTT cover Big Joe Williams

Celldweller's fantastic cover of the BeeGee's "Tragedy"

So....heres a different version of Slayers tribute to Mengele...

This thread has been woefully neglected, guys.

Um, CCR does Marvin Gaye.

Unfortunately, not the 11-minute version.

This is in my opinion about the the farthest thing from a great song, but RT redeems it in a way I didn't know was possible with his cover.

I think we've got that up above somewhere, but I'm always happy to listen to RT again.

Also, Cat Power does The Godfather.

Oh, look how blase I am. 'Cuz, y'know, you meet Richard Thompson fans every day out in the real world...

Come on to Paizo and they're all over the place! We truly are cooler than 4th edition fans.

Hanne Hukkelberg does "Break my body" by The Pixies

I am officially in love with Chan Marshall.

I had taped Jukebox from a copy I got at the library and I LOVED IT SO MUCH, I went out and bought it with a gift card I got for Christmas. It's got a bonus disk!

But I'm not going to post Cat Power. That would be too easy.

Hot Boyz--"I Feel" NSFW!
Moby Grape--"Naked If I Want To" Hippie alert!
Roberta Flack--"Angelitos Negros" I freely admit I didn't know this one.
Patsy Cline--"She's Got You" With video, because it makes me cry.

In the limited time I gave to this project I couldn't figure out "Breathless."

Be the first to post and get a No-Prize!

First! :)

Here is a useless cover of a pretty cool song:

The Demon covers The Prodigy

I am going to a Hendrix tribute concert tonight and I remembered this little ditty.

SRV covering Voodoo Chile.

Snake River Conspiracy covering "Love Song" by The Cure

I'll happily reward Drunken Nomad a No-Prize, but I meant "first to post the original of "Breathless." Also, now I think that "Angelitos" song is older than Roberta Flack.

Roadhouse Blues covered by Ministry, because sometimes I like to listen to music that will peel the paint off the walls.

Ah, Donovan. There's also a nice version of that track on a comp from Exotic Fever Records called Don't Know When I'll Be Back Again. It's indie rockers doing '60s music from around the fall of 2001 or 2002.

You can hear snippets at the above link, but the stand-out tracks are:

• Dame Fate covering Donovan's "There Is a Mountain"
• atombombpocketknife doing Led Zep's "Immigrant Song"
• The Reputation doing Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth"
• And an absolutely dead-on cover from Death Cab for Cutie with Sean Nelson of CCR's "Fortunate Son."

Boris the Sprinkler do The Rezillos.

Man...or Astroman? does The Rezillos.

I wonder how many of these links are still active?

Anyway,

Camper Van Beethoven do Black Flag.

The Circle Jerks get namechecked on same album.

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes cover Rick Springfield covering a Sammy Hagar tune

Mmm! How about:

The Dillards doing 'I've Just Seen a Face'

Suck doing 'Seasons of the Witch'

Viv Stanshall doing 'The Young Ones'

I've Done Everything For You!

Probably my favorite cover ever:

Marie Laforet covers Paint it Black, by the Rolling Stones.

Sort of.

The Avengers

Dinosaur Jr covers “Just Like Heaven” by the Cure.

Bump.

PJ does Bob.

And then she does The Howlin' Wolf.
