Miles Fisher covering Talking Heads as the American Psycho

Patrick Bateman wasn't cool enough to listen to Talking Heads! (At least not in the movie, I never read the book).

Talking Heads do Al Green.

Sovereign Court

Cherri Bomb covering Foo Fighters' the Pretender

Considering the band members are all teenagers, I think they'll have one hell of a run if they can avoid the pitfalls that usually snag most younger artists.

The Beach Boys do Chuck Berry.

Time for some protest songs.

Yothu Yindi probably the most famous of the Australian Aboriginal bands turned Jail Break into a protest over the poor treatment of native people in prison.

Yothu Yindi do AC/DC's Jail break...

I was only 19 - A protest song about the involvement of Australian soldiers in Vietnam (by Soldiers that had served)... It became an anti Iraq war protest song.

The Herd doing Redgum's I was only 19 This is the original Redgum's I was only 19

Midnight Oil have lot of Aboriginal rights songs this is one of my favourites, covered by my second favourite Australian Punk band.
Frenzal Rhomb - The Dead Heart (Midnight Oil cover)

Cage the Elephant does the Talking Heads' Psycho Killer
Cage the Elephant does MGMT's Kids
Cage the Elephant does acoustic Adele's Rolling in the Deep

Metallica- Turn the Page (originally done by Bob Seger). I like them both equally.

Red Hot Chili Peppers- Higher Ground (originally done by Stevie Wonder) I actually like the Chili Peppers version better.

Aerosmith- Come Together (originally done by the Beatles) I like the Beatles version better.

Johny Cash- Hurt (originally done by Nine Inch Nails) I like the NIN version better.

Nine Inch Nails- Dead Souls (originally done by Joy Division) I actually like the NIN version better.

Jimmy Page and Robert Plant- Light My Fire AND Break on Through (originally done by the Doors) I like the Doors version better.

Don't have any links, but here goes:
Social Distortion remake of Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash
Johnny Cash remake of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails
Johnny Cash remake of Rusty Cage by Soundgarden
Sisters of Mercy remake of 1969 by the Stooges
Cake remake of War Pigs by Black Sabbath

...made it out with a WHAT around his neck? ...sheep?

I almost think its a karaoke track with didgeridoos and wood blocks (plus vox) over the original guitar/drum/bass tracks. Pretty cool. Thanks. =D

"All Along the Watchtower" was a cover in the first place. I still love Jimi's over anyone else', though the Battlestar Galactica one was good (still need to click the link for the a cappella version). In fact, a lot of those mentioned here are second, third or fourth generation covers. For instance, "House of the Rising Sun" was already a cover when The Animals did it.

I always liked Santana's cover of "She's Not There" over the original Zombies'.

Echo and The Bunnymen did an awesome cover of "People are Strange" for the Lost Boys soundtrack.

I like Nonpoint's version of "In the Air Tonight." Oh lord.

Its a "sheet"... in the bad old days (colonisation -1980's) it was very common to find Aboriginal prisoners hung in their cells with a noose made of strips of sheet.

Yothu Yindi's biggest hit - Treaty I have seen them live they have the chops to hammer out AC/DC.

aw crud...I should have figured "sheet" out. I had several beers last night and my fuzzy brain could not make out the lyric. After clicking around on the youtube links, I see that they are pretty kickass live!! The ACDC song was just about note for note, so I assumed they took the easy way out...NOPE! I'm guessing you've seen "Once Were Warriors", that was a brutal vision.

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32

I do believe that this is the best Surfin' USA cover ever.

Jimi took that song from Bob like it was his.

If I remember correctly, "HotRS" is supposed to be about a whore.

The Zombies!

I love Echo, but I don't know why they bothered. Lost Boys ftw, though!

My understanding is that this song is a traditional British folk tune, although III was heavily influenced by Jansch.

Beth Orton not doing Bruce Springsteen.

Doodlebug Anklebiter wrote:

Here's a better clip of "He's a Whore."

Cyndi Lauper does Prince.

I like Cyndi's version, but, yeah, it's got nothing on the original.

Later, I'll try to find some awesome version of Prince and the Revolution ripping it up on stage, but for now the recorded version and Prince in his man-bikini is going to have to suffice.
