I think the last version of this thread was much better. :)
** spoiler omitted **
That would probably give Gary a migraine.
I think it is best to flag the most extreme cases wit a apropriate (other reason) flag, if they are obvious warmongering, the moderators will probably know thet "other" reason.

You should be free to support your favourite edition without being flagged for it as long as you don't break the rules for posting. It's up to the others responding to a thread to keep it on topic.
This.
The problem isn't edition trolls. The problem is people replying to edition trolls (including all the people who just post to say "Hey, look, an edition troll!" Like that actually helps anything). A single person can't derail a thread, it takes a whole group.
As much as I would like to see more stringent moderation on this board in general, I think this kind of feature would just create more work for the moderators/admins in a way that would be unnecessary and probably not very effective. Especially because I'm fairly certain there would be yahoos who would flag someone for saying non-confrontationally, "My favorite edition is [insert flagger's least favorite edition]." And that flagging would distract admins from real problems elsewhere on the board.
Besides which, the worst edition warriors DO break the board rules--they get insulting, abusive, etc. which can be flagged for. Flagging someone for essentially going off topic is a bit of a slippery slope; just be strident about flagging the folks who do break the existing rules.
And again, everyone can help by not feeding the trolls. Ignoring an Internet troll is like chucking fire and acid at a fantasy troll--it deprives the creature of its ability to keep coming back. Unfortunately some folks think clever mockery and proving "they're right" is the way to go, but these are as potions of cure poured directly into the troll's mouths--and they're exactly what they're hoping for when they start the flamewar.

My edition is better than yours. :P [/sarcasm]
Really what we need is people to just grow up and realize that everyone's tastes are different. If you like your apple pie with cheese that's fine. I'm gonna sit over here and enjoy my strawberry rhubarb pie.
I have no problem discussing the advantages and disadvantages of any given system, because they all have them, but I want to do so in a civil manner and not start a fan war over whose is better. I know that's asking a lot, but come on, let's treat one another with some respect.
