Both of the bandits, hearing the offer that their surrender will be accepted, drop their weapons and hold their hands over their head.

Seeing the battle is finally over they both come out from their home and approach the charter wielding adventurers and their new prisoners.

As Simon looks up from his "gift" he sees Elanora giving him a disturbingly happy thumbs-up.

Pavel, crestfallen that he didn't get to kill any bandits, begins to tie up the prisoners before dragging the bodies outside for searching and burial.

After tying them up, he ventures,"A'aren't we su'supposed to ha'hang these g'guys now? I ma'mean that's wh'what the charter said about ba'banditry."

Male Human Magus 1

Seeing that the bandits have surrendered Jonas relaxes from his combative stance. Looking between the two surrendered men he puts on a air of authority and begins to speak in slow measured tones to the two captives Gentlemen I suggest you cooperate with us. We are charged with the pacification of these lands and have been given the authority to meet out justice. You have a simple choice. You can help us and prove your contrition for the acts of banditry that you have taken part in, allowing us to show a measure of leniency or we can fall back on the typical punishment for banditry. I will let you think on your answer.

Male Human Magus 1

If possible I will try to get everyone to place the prisoners in the midden or stables as a temporary holding cell with one of us as a guard switching out every 2 hours while we discuss our options in regards to the prisoners. So we are not discussing their fate right in front of them. To prevent potentially ruining any cooperation if the talks go badly and so we have the appearance of a cohesive group. Once the prisoners are secured I will help in the clean up of the bodies stripping weapons and gear while making preparations for proper burial of the 4 bodies.

Celeste puts her sword behind her back seeing that the battle is over and runs a hand though her hair feeling it matted with blood. Sighing she looks around seeing the mess they made. Then she looks at herself.

“I really need to wash” she says quietly to herself before walking over towards the bandits trying not to step in anything.

Going through the gear Pavel finds four sets of leather armour, the other three having been badly damaged by Celeste, one hundred and forty arrows, six short swords, a vial of Alchemist's Fire, a dagger, a composite Longbow (+2Str), a silver amulet, thirty five gold pieces and seven horses.

Seeing the haul Oleg comes up to Pavel and has a closer look.

"Anything you don't want to keep, me, I'll buy" Oleg says "also, for this service, you are free to stay here for as long as you wish, no charge"

Male Human Paladin of Erastil 1

Simon will try to stop the wounds of the fallen bandits .
Heal1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Heal1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Heal1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Heal1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Once the prisoners have been secured , He will come with the rest of the group in the inn for the discussion
"Pavel , I know the charter gave us the right to hang them but frankly the bureaucrats are not there and I think we should give them a chance. I believe we should check if they have already been marked . If so, then they have already forfeited their one chance at redemption and we will hang them . If not , I propose to interrogate them. If tjey tell us where and what is the rest of their group, I believe we should head there if our good innkeeper feels up to guard them.

Wow 7 horses now everyone can ride that should make travel and exploration go faster

Pavel picks out the alchemist's fire, the composite longbow, the gold coins and the amulet for the group.

"Sh'sure thing, Oleg. I think this is all we'll w'want, th'though maybe we should take some ho'horses."

The big Rostlander takes a look at the amulet before replying to Simon.
"Yuh'yeah, they really luh'look like they'd give us a ch'chance if our si'situations were re'reversed. Ruh'really redemption material."
He shrugs.
"N'no skin off muh'my back if you wa'want to housebreak 'em."

Was the guy with the Composite longbow carrying 140 arrows? holly crud he must have looked like a pin cushion :p

I will take a look at the amulet when given a chance and use appraise to see how much its worth.

Nope, forgot to add six short bows to Pavel's list, they had 20 arrows apiece

ooc recommendation:

Just a style recommendation but this...

...is probably best placed under a spoiler tag just because while thats fine for planning it really should be put into first or third person, in world speech of you're going to put it into the IC thread like that. Not having a go, I know we have some new people :)

Sigurd slides down the later and retrieves his spear, his eye the composite bow Pavel has picked out. Picking it up and testing its pull, he gives a low whistle. "Does anyone mind?" he asks, as he replaces his old bow. Assuming he hears no opposition, he begins piling the bodies in the center of the yard. "We should at least offer them some basic rites," he whispers. "Not worthy of a pyre, but at least a few words and a blessing for their souls..."

Celeste stands before the tied up bandits, still with their companions blood on her and slightly kicks one of their feet.
“So are you going to tell me about who you work for and where your hide out is located” she gestures to the bodies and the mess on the ground.
“Or would you like to end up as your friends” Celeste leans down a little tilting her head to the side and smiles “and I promise your deaths won’t be as quick as theirs”.

"N... no me lady" one of the bandits stammers out "I certainly wouldn'"

The bandits look fairly cowed, though judging from their accents, clothing and mannerisms they're likely trappers or farmers who've turned to banditry at some stage.

"We, we works for a lady named Kessle, her camps to the south west it is" the second bandit pipes up, his accent not as thick as the first.

Male Human (Ulfen) Inquisitor 1

Hearing the interrogation beginning, Sigurd moves over to Celeste, a stony scowl on his face. He's not about to start torturing these men - or allow anyone else to, but they don't need to know that, and he's not above giving them a good wallop or two. Squatting down before the bandits, he looks one of them in the eyes with an iron glower. "To the south west, you say?" His arm shoots out as he grabs one of them men by the hair and tugs sharply, bringing the thug's face to his own. "Casmaron is southwest of here. You'll need to be more specific." He gives a light shove, pushing the man back onto his rump. "And numbers. How many are we dealing with, and what kind of fortifications do they have?"

AC 21 (20)/T 13/FF 17; CMD 24, HP 76/76

Pavel leans in to whisper a comment to Jonas nearby.
"Ca'Casmaron is actually ea'east and southeast of h'here."

Male Human (Ulfen) Inquisitor 1

Balls! You know, I hate it when I get my directions mixed up. Believe it or not, I had initially said "Cheliax," then I thought "wait, that's east."

That's fine, Sigurd doesn't have any ranks in knowledge- geography, so it may very well fit his character!

Dark Archive

"Weh... well it would be a days hard ride from here it would be, I don' know the trail too well though mi'lord" the more eloquent bandit replies "Happs was the guide he was and the lady orc cut his head off."

Male Human (Ulfen) Inquisitor 1

Sigurd shakes his head softly as some of the steel leaves his glare. "You haven't been at this very long, have you?"

I'd also like to make a sense motive check to make sure they aren't lying to us, though I doubt it.

Male Human Magus 1

Jonas holds back a laugh as Pavel whispers in his ear, but the seriousness of the situation soon wins out over the humor of the comment.
when out of ear shot of the bandits I say to the group as a whole. We should talk about a proper form of punishment for these men I am against killing them since they seem to be cooperating but they also shouldn't get off free and clear I suggest at the very least I mark them with the arcane mark spell on their foreheads to prevent them from immediately going back to the bandits if we release them or they escape. Jonas thinks that might be a good idea for a spell or a magical item that he should research in the future.

AC 21 (20)/T 13/FF 17; CMD 24, HP 76/76

"S'so it's just a c'camp? No per'permanent defenses?", Pavel asks, pointing a thumb to the silver amulet Jonas took to examine,"Wh'what's the d'deal with that?"

Male Human (Ulfen) Inquisitor 1

Lydran looks to Jonas once he turns from the bandits, whispering. "I'd learn more about these men before we resort to punishments too harsh. Might be that hard times have driven them to this life. Now don't get me wrong, it was their own choice to resort to banditry, and we can't just let that rest, but sometimes a man just needs to be reminded of where he comes from. Maybe we make them face up to what they've done? Apologize to those they've wronged, in actions as well as words - make them serve a community." He looks back to the bandits for a moment before growing somber once more and turning back to Jonas. "If you'd like to see them branded, though, I happen to have a trick for just that purpose. It'll fade in time, but it will remind themselves and others what they've done."

Celeste stands up straight and walks over to her companions listening to them talk.
“I would have to agree with Sigurd, they would be of more use alive then dead, and I think we have all seen enough blood shed for one day, I know I have. But of course that’s only if you think we can trust them”

Dark Archive

Sigurd, not Lydran :)

Dark Archive

"That?" the more eloquent bandit responds to Pavel "It was some trinkety thing that Kessle gave Happs."

The bandit rolls his head his body obviously aching after the combat earlier.

“Obviously it wasn’t for luck”, responds Elanora as she wipes some of the blood off her weapon. “And sorry about that whole… decapitation thing. Hope Happs isn’t too sore about it.”

Male Human (Ulfen) Inquisitor 1

Sigurd steps back over to the bandits and kneels before him. "You've been helpful, but the fact remains that you have lead a life of banditry. You might not find yourself dancing on a rope, but neither can we simply turn you back out onto the road. Tell me - what was your life before you became a brigand?"

Dark Archive

"We was both farm hands near Restlov mi'lord but the lands had a fallow couple of years an we wasn' needed anymore so we hads notin' to fall back on" the heavily accented Bandit responds to Sigurd's question.

Pavel rubs a big hand across the stubble on his jaw, wracking his brain for any landmarks to the southwest or in the general area.

The two bandits still breathing seem to be being honest but the four that Simon try to revive still remain dead having been disemboweled and then having their intestines stepped on by the battling half-orc and half-elf.

Male Human Magus 1

Jonas answers Sigurd's concerns with a quiet explanation before he goes back to the prisoners. An arcane mark would not harm them physically but the magic would not allow them to wipe it away with out a more powerful enchantment but still fades in time lasting no more then a month. I was thinking that such a mark would deter them from rejoining the bandits at least temporarily but providing them a alternative to banditry would be best.

"You know" Oleg says as he overhears some of the discussion regarding the prisoners "You cannot leave them with me and Svetlana. We are not a prison and even the store house could be broken out of during the night. If you want to keep them prisoner you will 'ave to wait until the men from Restlov arrive."

Male Human Magus 1

That is understandable Oleg do you know when they are expected to arrive? I would prefer to leave you and your wife knowing that both of you will be safe.

Dark Archive

"Well, they were meant to have arrived yesterday" Svetlana says coming over "So I guess if they haven't arrived by tonight they should arrive tomorrow for sure. Our offer of free accommodation still stands if you would like to wait for them and I'll even throw in free meals whenever you stay here."

Male Human Magus 1

smiling warmly at the two sturdy folk. We certainly appreciate your hospitality. Your outpost is going to be important to our expedition. I was wondering if their was some place I could store gear and fragile equipment while we explore.

Male Human (Ulfen) Inquisitor 1

"That would be helpful," Sigurd agrees. "No telling what kind of ill-gotten spoils we may come across out there, and this might be a good place to keep them until we can decide what's to be done with them. I think we could stick around another day, though, to make sure the guards arrive. Poor nascent lordlings we'd be if we left you to stew here. Especially with two unjudged bandits laying around."

Dark Archive

Early the next day, after an evening of sleeping in a bed and with a belly full of coney stew, the promised guardsmen arrive. A man named Kestran Garess leads three other men, all of whom wear armour, carry spears and have a blade at their side.

Honestly its a bit of a joke, four men to defend a fortress, but then again it would have been enough to drive away the bandits who were preying on the outpost so maybe it will help.

At the direction of their leader the guardsmen begin setting up their tents in the shade between the palisade and the stable while the leader comes over to introduce himself. Seeing the adventurers he gives a nod and walks up Oleg and Svetlana's lodgings and knocks on the door lightly waiting patiently for a response.

Celeste yawns as she finishes putting her hair back up into a ponytail and sees the guards ride in and start setting up. After a few minutes she casually walks over.
“Hello, you must be the guards sent from Restov? I’m Celeste Cherenkov.” She welcomes.
“Did something happen to hold you up a few days?”

Male Human Magus 1

Jonas returns the nod to the guardsman Good morning, I am glad to see you and your men arrived without incident.
If we haven't sold the bows yet it may be wise to donate 4 of them along with a good number of the arrows to the guards. since they don't seem to have much in the way of long range weapons

Dark Archive

"Well met Celeste Cherenkov" the guardsman replies "I am Kestran Garess and as is always the way I was held up by bureaucracy. As my father used to say, the only thing that saves us from the bureaucracy is its inefficiency."

“Great,” Elanora says as she finishes strapping on her armour and sheaths her Falchion. ”The guards are here. Now can we go explore the rest of the land? I promise I won’t ask ‘are we there yet’ every five minutes.”

AC 21 (20)/T 13/FF 17; CMD 24, HP 76/76

Nothing comes to mind for that knowledge- geography check?

"H'hullo.", says Pavel to the arriving guards," We g'got some prisoners f'for you."

When Oleg steps outside and has a minute, Pavel approaches him.
"Ha'have you heard an'anything from the f'folk that come to tr'trade? Any pl'places of interest ar'round here?"

Dark Archive

Sorry forgot that, you know that to the south west there is a large forest (think the forest primeval I posted in the OOC thread), a swamp and a couple of lake and to the south east are a series of heavily forested mountains but at to specifics, there is a reason you guys were hired to explore :)

AC 21 (20)/T 13/FF 17; CMD 24, HP 76/76

Pavel squats down and starts drawing in the dirt of the courtyard: a crude house in the north to represent the trading post, below and left of that he draws a tree, a puddle with sticks in it and a little puddle with waves- forest, swamp, lake. Below the trading post and on the right side he draws some little humps to represent hills and some more trees.

"Th'this is a'about all we kn'know so far.," he says as he draws a crude skull in the southwest forest to represent the bandit camp. "I'd suh'say we should h'head for th'the camp he'here before the buh'bandits fuh'figure we kuh'killed their extortion ruh'racket."

Male Human Paladin of Erastil 1

Simon will introduce himself to Kestran Garess : "Hello Kestran , I'm Simon Bornen. Given we were not told of your coming until we were here , I doubt you know who we are. Me and my companions here are a group tasked to explore the region. While we are here , we'll of course try to support your efforts in securing this fort . In fact , we have already begun . Some people came by to extort some money from Oleg . Those who did not surrender are buried but two of them have seen the light and want to work hard to atone for their wrongs . I figure you can use some unskilled help for two months ? "

Later on
Pavel , Sigurd , do you think you could guide us to the bandit's hideout ? After all , 6 mounted peope must have left tracks ...

Male Human Magus 1

we should complete the business of selling the equipment that no one wants and perform any last minute prep work for our personal gear then head out.
Jonas unpacks the compass he bought in Restov and shows it to Pavel and Sigurd Have either of you used a compass before as I understand the needle spins freely and will stay pointed north it should help us to keep from getting lost and I will make it available to who ever is going to act as our guide in the wilds. I assume that would be one or both of you either way I know that it isn't me I have some understanding of geography and am able to draw decently so I would be happy to sketch a map and take notes as we go but I haven't trained in the practical skills of navigating in the wilds... Jonas shrugs his shoulders as he lets his last statement hang in the air. As he thinks yeah let me point out yet again just how out of place I am compared to everyone else in this group.
I would suggest the person with the highest survival skill use the compass and the next highest use aid other to provide a bonus to make sure we keep from getting lost that should provide a +4 bonus to the survival skill to prevent us from getting lost.

Male Human (Ulfen) Inquisitor 1

"The trail shouldn't be overly difficult to follow, especially given the scarcity of human traffic 'round here. I'm afraid if you want me to be thorough, though, we'll have to leave our own steeds behind. Can't very well follow their trail from horseback. Besides, if they lead us into the woods, I'd prefer the mobility my own feet afford me." Sigurd accepts the compass from Jonas and steps outside the outpost, where he squats down and carefully surveys the terrain.

OOC:
Sigurd will attempt to pick up the bandits' trail.
