Sorry guys, picked a bad time to start a random encounter, damn weekends. I haven't forgotten you guys just need a couple more replies before I can shift the turn forward.

Dark Archive

Hey Gerrick, you haven't posted in over a week, I'm just wondering if you're still here since I've held the combat off for a few days waiting for your post. If I haven't heard from you in the next few hours I'm going to continue the combat without you and if you haven't replied in twenty four hours I'll presume you've dropped from the game.

Aldon, quickly spotting the beast caught in Fugg's snare loses a bolt from his father's crossbow hit the beast in the shoulder causing it to his in rage and pain further struggling against its bond. Lydran again casts one of those volatile little orbs of viscous green fluid but it hits some of the intervening scrub as it flies towards the lizard causing the little bush to hiss and smoke.

Hern charges towards the trapped monitor when a second one bursts out of the undergrowth and snaps at him but the halfling's quick reflexes allow him to step back barely out of its reach as it attacks. In response he slashes it across its snout causing it to hiss in anger and pain. Fugg follows Hern's lead but dodges around the halfling and the new foe to ready himself for an attack against the trapped lizard.

Deciding against hurling a dart of caustic liquid into the midst of the melee, Lydran begins whispering in some guttural tongue as he weaves his arms over his head. A small bead of orange light begins to coalesce between the two lizards, and as Lydran finishes his incantation, it explodes in a sulfurous flash, a shrill cry ushering in a brilliant crimson eagle with black-tipped feathers. A powerful flap of its wings keeps it aloft as it rakes at the trapped lizard with cruel obsidian talons.

Lydran will cast Summon Monster I to summon a fiendish eagle, which will persist for two rounds because of his Summoner's Charm ability. The eagle makes a full attack against the trapped lizard.

Don't stress about not being able to view the map, its more a tool for me that lets me keep track of positions/damage very easily. If you'd like I can start posting a screenshot alongside the interactive map each turn :)

Aldon loses another bolt and ends the life of the lizard that was still trapped by Fugg's snare before all hell breaks loose. The monitor attacking Hern seems suddenly enraged by its mates death and latches onto the halfling's throat and then thrashes him back and forth like a rag doll obviously tearing his throat badly and leaving him lying unconscious on the ground when it finally drops him.

Lydran then summons an eagle which screeches and attacks the lizard raking at its back before finally Bashhorn, Fugg's Rhino friend, charges into the fray and tramples the lizard to death under his rhinoic bulk.

Seeing Hern down Fugg walks over and lays a hand on the bite marks. A soft blue glow arises as the wounds begin to stitch together.
Cure Light Wounds:1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Fugg will then cast purify food and drink on the two dead lizards to clear them of thier poisons.

Male Half-Elf HP 7/7, AC-12/T-12/FF-10, F+0/R+2/W+3, Init+2, Per+2

"Poison?" Lydran asks as his eagles disappears in a burst of flame. "That's less than ideal... Jask, is there anything you can do? Are you able to move, Hern? We'll have to get underway soon, but I'd prefer not to start tromping around a strange jungle with one of our number fighting against the effects of some exotic venom."

Male Halfling Rogue 1

"Thank you Fugg," Hern grits out, still severely wounded. "I can move. I think," the halfling says, though its not clear that one should believe him. Hern looks a bit groggy as the poison begins attacking his system.

Male Half-Elf HP 7/7, AC-12/T-12/FF-10, F+0/R+2/W+3, Init+2, Per+2

"Hmm... Perhaps we ought to use a litter, for the time being. We found some canvasing in Jenivere, and I'm sure there is no shortage of long sticks."

Male Half-Orc Druid 1 560 xp

You be careful. I no waste my healing on you. I get lizards to camp. Lydran Aldon you get Hern. I start cleaning meat to cook Fugg lifts the two dead lizards up onto Bashhorn and holds them steady as they head back to camp.

Back at camp Fugg will begin to clean the lizards and get them ready to roast on spits.
Survival:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

Dark Archive

Once back at the camp Jask looks at Hern's wounds and admits that he probably won't be able to do much about the poison but that he believes one of the bottles in the bag of recovered potions is a counter poison.

"Well, thats something i forgot to bring.. Anti-Venom. I must be getting old... Hern. can you walk, or would you like to be carried like a royal sack of Potatos! haha!"

Male Halfling Rogue 1

"I can walk. I'll be fine," Hern says, rather brusquely, and getting up. He is evidently a bit dizzy and groggy. Luckily camp isn't too far away and Hern flops downs rather unceremoniously and lapses into a daze.

ooc:

Right now I'm at 4 HP. I'm not sure what the effects of the poison are. I believe Jormungandr said that these lizards were like monitor lizards, if so I should be facing some dex damage for the next few hours. I do get a few more saves. I think. I could be wrong.
Fortitude save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Dark Archive

Yup they're just re-skinned monitor lizards from Beast1 for the AP, also if you haven't seen it yet Hern, you should have a quick look in the OOC thread to see if you're interested.

Dark Archive

"Hern" Jask says as he approaches carrying a vial of viscous brown liquid "this is the only dose of antivenin we have, if you want it you're free to have it but its our only one. Do you want to take it?"

As Jask asks, Hern can feel a hot numbness in his neck and shoulder but for the moment it doesn't seem to be getting worse but its hard to tell with the raggedly chewed bite marks.

Male Halfling Rogue 1

"No, Jask. Let's wait and see. We can save the anti-venom for a real emergency."

ooc:

More fortitude saves: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Dark Archive

Over the next hour it seems the envenoming of the wound wasn't as bad as first thought and the numbness and heat fade to be replaced with the itchy feeling of knitting flesh, thanks to the healing spell that closed the wounds.

"Wow, Mr Halfling, that seems to have been a fairly nasty wound, are you okay?" Gelik asks looking at the wound after Jask moves away to repack the antivenin.

Male Halfling Rogue 1

Hern smiles at the Gelik's concern, a genuine smile. "I've been better, but I've been worse, Mr. Gnome. How are you and the rest of our merry band of castaways doing? I fear that we've a band of over-motivated adventurers and then the rest of you all. We've been busy. I wonder what that Half Elf Chelaxian over there has discovered in his reading. . . I fear that he and I don't quite get along though. How are you adjusting to our island sojourn. You must have a tale to tell, or a song to sing. Hopefully, it is not the ballad of the poor halfling who became a lizard's dinner." Hern laughs at his plight, but then grimaces. One healing spell is enough to keep him from dying, but not enough to stave off the pain of his injuries.

Male Half-Elf HP 7/7, AC-12/T-12/FF-10, F+0/R+2/W+3, Init+2, Per+2

Ah, yes! What did Lydran learn from the Captain's records?

Male Half-Elf HP 7/7, AC-12/T-12/FF-10, F+0/R+2/W+3, Init+2, Per+2

Lydran arches a brow as Hern grimaces. "You know," he muses, "We'll have to be very careful with ration most of our supplies, but we refresh our spells with every dawn. Perhaps Fugg or Jask could spare one more balm for our little morsel?"

Male Half-Orc Druid 1 560 xp

An examination of this log reveals that the Jenivere's captain seemed to be suffering from some sort of madness that grew over the course of the ship's final voyage. Earlier entries from previous voyages are precise in recording progress and events along the way, as are entries from the first two-thirds of this last trip. Yet as one reads further, the more recent the entries get, the less common they become-in some cases, several days are missing entries.

What entries do appear are strangely short, focusing more and more on one of the passengers-the Varisian scholar leana, with whom the captain seems to have become obsessed. Several entries are nothing more than poorly written love poems to leana, while others bemoan Captain Kovack's inability to please her or catch her attention. Near the end, the entries begin to take on a more ominous tone with the captain starting to complain that other members of the crew are eyeing "his leana."

In particular, he suspects his first mate is in love with her,and writes several times about how he wishes Alton would just "have an accident." The final entry is perhaps the most disturbing, for in it the captain writes of how he's changed course for Smuggler's Shiv at leana's request. He hopes that the two of them can make a home on the remote island, but also notes that the crew are growing increasingly agitated at the ship's new course. The captain muses that "something may need to be done about the crew" if their suspicions get any worse.

Dark Archive

"Well Mr Halfling, I cannot speak for certain but I think we've begun to feel a lot better then we have for the past twenty four hours, this damnable heat though, I wish we could have shipwrecked to the north, I find the chill much more agreeable then the heat."

Gelik sits back and smiles weakly.

"You and you adventurous compatriots seem much more able then I or the other who didn't go to inspect the ship but we'd be more then willing to divvy up the camps duties if you have anything you'd like us to do" Gelik says.

Male Half-Elf HP 7/7, AC-12/T-12/FF-10, F+0/R+2/W+3, Init+2, Per+2

"Camp duties can wait another moment," Lydran says with a frown as he takes a seat with the other survivors. "I've been reading through our dear captain's logbook, and it seems that he was not so fit as we would have hoped. It would seem too that that scholar Ieana has been living up to her people's penchant for bewitchment. We are here because the captain made an unscheduled change of course - at her request." He produces the book for anyone else who may wish to read it. "You may check for yourself, but we are not here because of any mistake. That woman wanted to come here, and Varisian she may be, but last I checked bookish scholars held little interest in wild legends of pirate gold. I'm willing to bet that there's something else on this island."

Male Halfling Rogue 1

"Fugg, you've already done wonders. Time will heal all. Until it doesn't. Plus, you've provided this tasty meal," Hern points to the corpses of the lizards. "I just hope they don't taste like they smell."

"Now, as to our captain. Can we assume that Ieana was some sort of witch or enchantress? Perhaps she is just the victim of the captain's madness," Hern pauses a moment and then grimaces. "Yeah, I don't believe that either. So Mr. Hellfire, what do you think she was seeking on this rotting isle?"

Male Half-Elf HP 7/7, AC-12/T-12/FF-10, F+0/R+2/W+3, Init+2, Per+2

"Until we can find out more about her - or this place - your guess is as good as mine."

Male Halfling Rogue 1

"Well, then I'll just pretend she was after pirate gold. That's something I can understand. Now about Gelik's suggestion. A little planning never hurt anyone and I've found that having a job to do can help take one's mind off larger, more disturbing matters. So, what sort of tasks need doing around our camp? Someone needs to mind the Fugg's traps . . . someone could cook. It looks like Jask is already doing a fine job of being our apothecary and dealing with the minor cuts and bruises. I am sure the Gelik could keep our spirits up with a story or two. . . What am I missing?"

Male Half-Elf HP 7/7, AC-12/T-12/FF-10, F+0/R+2/W+3, Init+2, Per+2

"Beginning tomorrow, I can keep a few spells handy that will make minor repairs or otherwise keep our equipment dry and functional." Staring at the corpses of the lizards for a moment, he adds "I may also be able to help with the flavor of the food, but let's see how it turns out first. Beyond that, I'm fluent in a number of languages, and something of a linguist as well. Not of much use around the campsite, but if we come across any natives that don't attempt to eat us outright..."

Dark Archive

At the suggestion of duties the survivors begin offering up different jobs they'd be able to do around camp. Aerys offers herself up as either a guard or an entertainer, Gelik says he could also be an entertainer or a medic, Ishirou, despite his taciturn nature offers to help defend the camp, Jask says he could either serve as a medic or hunt and forage for food and finally Sasha suggest she could also serve as a hunter or another camp guard.

As the people around camp continue discussing their possible duties another noise begins moving through the underbrush close to camp and for a few moments you're worried another creature is about to attack when you see one of the Jenivere's sailors come stumbling out of the underbrush bleeding from his shoulder and covered in sap from the plants he's had to hack through to get here.

Male Halfling Rogue 1

"That's fine, Lydran. Perhaps you could also try to figure out where Ieana and the captain were heading. I'd like some of that pirate gold, or at least to pay the two of them back." Hern glances around at the other castaways. "How are the rest of you holding up?" Hern wanders over to Aerys and quietly asks: "How are you doing, miss? I suspect you might be having a rough time of it."

"Oh, hello my friends, I see you are the passengers from the Jenivere, it is I Leonardo D'Angelo. I was serving as a sailor aboard the Jenivere and only yesterday morning I awoke on a beach south of here, I have traveled nearly all of yesterday and this morning looking for the Jenivere." the man states in a thick Varisian accent "Perhaps you have seen her my friends?"

" Hail.. we have only seen a few poor souls that didn't make it from teh ship alive, other than that, we have only encountered some vermin.."

Male Halfling Rogue 1

"As for the Jenivere. There she lies," Hern points to the boat," and, I am afraid, there she will rot."

"Ah, such is life" Leonardo says as he spots the remains of the ship Hern is pointing at "Then perhaps you have a plan for what we can do to extricate ourselves from this fine island?"

Leonardo is a fairly average looking man of medium height and build if leaning slightly more towards the slight end of the weight spectrum. He has a long hawkish face with a large, beak like, nose and has a small neatly trimmed goatee. Even though you didn't see him wearing it aboard the Jenivere he is now wearing a chain shirt spotted with rust and a longsword at his hip. His cloths show damage from traveling on foot across the island and and his red vest is torn in a few places showing his swarthy complexion beneath.

Male Half-Elf HP 7/7, AC-12/T-12/FF-10, F+0/R+2/W+3, Init+2, Per+2

"I believe we've settled on anything certain, but I think that our best chance would be to head to the lighthouse at the other side of the island. Hopefully, we can use it as a beacon, and if not, then the fact that it's positioned on that side of this rock would indicate that that's the side ships usually pass, which would mean that's the side closer to a port. If we must construct our own vessel, I think we'd have better chance departing from the other side of the island."

Male Halfling Rogue 1

"Hey, it sounds like we have a plan to get off this rock. It's at least two-thirds hopeful wishes, but that's still better than nothing!" Hern continues to try to get a reading on the other castaways. After inquiring about Aerys' condition to no avail, Hern stumbles over to Ishirou and comments on the beauty of his sword before asking him how he is faring.

"Where you wish to lead, I will follow" Leonardo says with a slightly flourished bow and a grin.

Male Half-Elf HP 7/7, AC-12/T-12/FF-10, F+0/R+2/W+3, Init+2, Per+2

"By the way..." Lydran adds, "What did that too your shoulder? You don't seem too bothered by it, but it seems that some of the local wildlife is poisonous."

"Ah, that was this sea monster that was trying to nible on me I awoke yesterday" Leonardo relies "It has kept opening back up thanks to my hiking".

Dark Archive

Do you guys want to do some RP here or would you like me to fast forward until Hern is healed so you can go explore some more?

Male Halfling Rogue 1

I'm fine with fast forwarding. In the interim, Hern will continue his fruitless attempts to make nice with the NPCs: chatting with Gelik about stories, trying to discuss topics of honor and swords with Ishirou, seeing if Aerys has died from alcohol withdrawal, trying to get more information out of Jask about his false imprisonment. I have no idea what anyone would say to, uh, the red-haired one, Sasha?
