Carrion Crown part 1 Recruiting

Gamer Connection

1 to 50 of 67 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

First of all this is not a "first come, first serve" deal. I'm going to wait a week then start up with enough people. I will judge on your backstory such as how your character met the professor (must be related to the campaign trait) along with what they're own backstory and history is.

Starting level: 1st level

Group size: I'm aiming for the average 4, maybe 5 if pushed, however 2 spaces are already held for Deevor and Smerg.

Feats: Core, but depending on how the feat fits with your character I'll allow it as long as I know the other source it's from.

Traits: Traits are allowed. 2 Traits but one must be from the player's handbook of Carrion Crown AP.

Races: All core races plus Aasimar, Changling, Dhampire, Orc, Tengu and Tiefling are allowed.

20 point buy

Experience and starting cash will be the average.

Classes: I'm allowing all core classes and those from APG.

Just so you know, the time zone I'm in is BST also known as GMT +0 hour and I stay up late anyway.

Carrion Crown Player's Guide

I'm aiming to have people who will be able to post atleast once a day, but I will understand if events get in the way like family matters or something. After all, most of us have lives outside in the real world. I aim for 24 hours after my post then I'll DMPC you're character, assuming you are busy or have a family matter to attend to or somehting else.

Stats for Changling

Here's also a place to check out the other non-standard races

Definitely interested, here is my app for Skyrn, son of Maekar.

I do have one question regarding a non-core feat. How do you feel about the Twisted Flesh feat from the Campaign Setting book (the 3.5 one)?
Just in case you don't know what that feat is, here it is:

Twisted Flesh:
Prerequisites: Con 15, Worldwound affinity
You gain a +1 natural armor bonus and cold, electricity, and fire resistance 2. In addition, thanks to your corrupted and scarred flesh, you gain a +1 on Intimidate checks. You take a -1 to all other Charisma-based skills, Charisma checks and Fort saves. You may only gain this feat at 1st level.

Not a deal breaker, I'd still play the same character, just curious.

I'm interested as well.I'll try to submit a character in short order; I'm considering a cleric or an arcane spellcaster at the moment.

Hmmm...sure I'll accept it, if you can also write in how your character has spent time in the Worldwound to gain it. I should be expecting the new campaign setting in the mail sometime, though difficult as I'm overseas.

Okay, I can't resist and am going to throw in for this. Here's a concept I previously put together for another game, subject to change. I do have the character rolled up, and would just need to set up his profile.

Gareth Hillen is a (NG) dwarven alchemist who makes a living selling his wares as he travels from town to town throughout Ustalav and neighboring areas. From time to time, he has been known to adventure although he has trouble keeping companions. Burned long ago by one of his experiments, the left side of his face is well scarred extending up on to his scalp, and the social interactions due to it have left him a gruff, unsociable and slightly unstable person. A little bigger than the average dwarf, Gareth sports short red hair and a beard that is little more than a goatee. He is usually dressed in comfortable adventuring gear, and always has a bag slung across his shoulders.

Over the years, Gareth's path has crossed Professor Lorrimor's numerous times, and indeed, the old man has called on Gareth for his alchemical knowledge over the years. The dwarf admires and respects the professor, and considers him to be one of his true good friends. (On the Payroll trait)

Oh, probably worth stating that his background and like is on the alias's page. But he grew up in the Worldwound (and saved the Professor when he was traveling up there, thus meeting him; he then decided to leave his family and follow the Professor, who eventually sponsored him to attend university), so there would have been plenty of time for all that chaotic energy to soak in.

I'm definitely interested. I've been dying to try out an inquisitor and looking through the entry in the players guide they would fit beautifully here.

I'll have a proper app to you sometime today.

I am certainly interested as well. I'll work on something to have to you later this week!

Greetings, I would like to join this pbp.
I am looking at a human hungry ghost or ki mystic monk with the Making Good on Promises trait.

The professor brought me to the monastery where I grew up as a babe. My parents were Ustalav however. Why they were so far from home and their fate is unknown to me.

As I grew I was in awe of the professor. He spoke to the masters as an equal and singled me out for friendship. He never mentioned it but I knew that he had saved my life and I knew that I would repay him somday.

Months ago the mystics at the monestary began having dream visions of Ustalav and the professor, and me. The masters gave me some gold and sent me to find the truth. The journey out of the mountains, the caravan, the sea voyage all these passed smoothly. So smoothly that I was considered a bit of a good luck charm by the river people who brought me on the last leg to the city.

I met the messenger charged with bringing me the news of the professor's death less than 5 minutes after entering then city.

I am heartbroken. I am far away from home and the only link to my past is broken.

(note: Monk is just an idea. I am interested in a physical class though. Fighter, Warrior of holy light, something like that. Been playing spellcasters for a bit and want to try something new.

I would like to throw a concept out there.

Tufeo, a spirit ranger. He is from the reclusive tribe that lives in the Graidmere swamp outside Karcau. He fights with dagger, trident (frog-gigger), and a large wicker shield. Close up weapons from fighting in swamp or bog.

He is NOT a barbarian, and takes affront at anyone suggesting such. The Graidmere is unforgiving to those who lose their concentration or go thrashing about. One must keep his wits and hone his skills. Tufeo's father had a true affinity with the spirits of the swamp and the Professor had tried to have an expedition find his father. It was young Tufeo's intervention that saved the professor in the swamp on that trip, when he came across their camp, with most of the expedition laid low with disease from bugs and bad water and under attack from a slurk. He chased off the toad and led them to his village. The professor eventually made many trips back to the village, but learned to have a trusty guide, even a young knowledgeable teen, beforehand.

Tufeo's interaction with the Professor has led him to explore out of the swamp on occasions to trade fish, eels, frogs, and medicinal herbs in Karcau.

His traits will be River Rat, +1 swim, +1 dagger damage; and Chance Savior from the Player's Guide. He will likely go 2-weapon fighter mixing it up with 2 daggers or trident and shield.

Profile will follow tonight when I get off work.

Name Eingal Barringald
Race Dwarf
Class Wizard, possibly entering eldritch knight prc
Bond Item bond, ring
Campaign Trait Making Good on Promises

I'm looking at building Eingal as a spellcaster/archer, and as such the character's focus will be staying out of the fight and attacking at range. I'll probably pick up a level of fighter at some point to gain bow proficiencies, and enter the eldritch knight prestige class if the campaign takes us in a direction that would support such character development. I'm likely to take Craft Magic Arms and Armor at some point, if for no other reason than to craft my own ammunition; magic arrows are somewhat inexpensive to create and don't take too long to complete, but can greatly improve the capabilities of an archer.

Background:
On a trip to the Five Kings range, Professor Lorrimor had the opportunity to assist a dwarf maiden. The young dwarf approached Lorrimor seeking advice on how best to win the heart of a dwarf wizard in training, Eingal Barringald. The Professor instructed her to forge a ring of mithral and gold, and to make it of the finest quality. He also told her to include a setting for a gemstone, which he would provide.

After the ring's completion, Lorrimor took the item and promised to return it when he next passed through the region. When that time came, Lorrimor had added a brilliant sapphire to the setting, as well as an enchantment. The Professor told the dwarf to present it to her love, and not too worry about repaying the debt; he would one day call upon her services.

Barringald had just finished his formal training when the maiden presented him with the gift. As soon as he took the item, it grew warm, and an engraved message appeared inside the band. Eingal had been taken by the young woman's looks for some time now, admiring her from afar, and was now rendered speechless by the gift; the two married within the year.

Eingal and his new bride settled in Tar-Kazmukh, where Eingal began training to one day join the Blue Warders, a sect of librarians based in the city. However, after two years tragedy struck, and his wife was killed by monsters attacking from the Darklands. Shortly thereafter, a message arrived from Ustalav, addressed to his dead bride. Eingal has heard about how Professor Lorrimor had brought the two dwarves together, and upon reading the summons to serve at the man's funeral Barringald decided it fell to him to fulfill his late wife's debt.

As promised. A proper application.

Name: Rendel Bladetwist
AL: LG
Class: Inquisitor (and staying that way)
Concept: Troubled youth in search of his father.
Traits: Heirloom Weapon(Bastard Sword), Subject of Study (Undead)

Background

Spoiler:
Rendel Bladetwist had an unconventional childhood. Being the child of a Paladin and an Inquisitor of Iomedae he spent most of his early childhood in dark and dreary places where the light of Iomedae was most needed. His bed time stories were of daring tales of slaying the undead and smiting enemies of the faith while his toys were arms and armor used in the battle against evil. For a time his parents felt that the campaign against darkness should not be halted because of parenthood and they were happy.

It was not until a tragic incident involving the ghost of a brutally murdered child forced a seven year old Rendel into the “care” of the ghost child for a number of days before his mother and father managed to exorcise the ghost and rescue their child. The injuries he received coupled with the increasing danger they found themselves in formed an irreparable schism between their parents. His father, a paladin, wanted to continue the crusade. His mother however believed that it would be better if they retired to a quiet life and raise their child. Each side proved inconsolable and thus they left one another leaving Rendel with his mother who retired to a quiet life of the clergy urging her son to avoid adventuring and live a quiet life of study and prayer. His father continued his crusade and corresponded often with his son often sending back gifts and tales from his adventures to the chagrin of his mother.

It was not long after that he met the Professor; who had heard of his mother and father and was particularly interested in Rendel's experiences with the ghost. They corresponded frequently and Rendel learned much about the world outside of the church of Iomedae from their conversations. It was through the professor’s encouragement and strong desire to adventure like his father that he defied his mother’s wishes to live a normal life and began training to become an inquisitor. He studied hard, particularly in the identification and elimination of the undead. It was on his seventeenth birthday after not hearing a word from his father that he received a final package from the professor. It was his father’s ancestral sword, wrapped in his father’s cloak. In the letter the professor confessed that he had spoken with his father shortly before he disappeared several months ago and he was instructed to send this to Rendel should anything happen to his father. It was not long after that he received notice of the Professor’s passing. Feeling strongly that the two events were connected and rustrated that the professor did not tell him the details of either their father's conversation or disappearance he packed his things and left for Ustalav where he hoped to investigate what happened to his father and take vengeance or at least some form of resolution from what he finds. Defying his mother for only the second time in his life he has done what she has always forbidden, gone adventuring.

Rendel is a powerfully built young man with a strong chin and large hands which are all traces of his father’s astonishing presence and as a result he can be quite intimidating when angered. His green eyes and light skin, however, were inherited from his mother. His hair was once red as indicated by thin strands that stand out amongst the white hair that grows now; a scar he still carries with him from his experiences with the ghost. He might have grown to be quite handsome but again his experiences along with long nights of study have given him a haggard and worn look to his face that gives people the impression that he has seen much of the horrors the world has to offer and in some ways they are right. He is a good man at heart but his silent presence and quiet speech gives the impression of aloofness. He only speaks passionately when it comes to the undead or his parents and would very likely kill a man where he stands should an insult about one or both of his parents is uttered in his presence. His life in the church and knowledge of the dark things that seek human sustenance have imbedded a caution into him that might be mistaken as cowardice or hesitancy by the foolhardy or rash. In truth he is no coward, he simply prefers to go into situations with full awareness of what he’s up against and with the proper tools to face down whatever opposition lies ahead. Despite his extensive knowledge and expertise of tactics against the undead he has no particular hatred for them. Indeed his drive to destroy them is not an act of vengeance for the damage done to him or even of faith. Rather, he considers it an act of mercy. Better then perhaps anyone he experienced the pain that the ghost felt, the loneliness, and its despair. To him the destruction of the undead is an act that can only end that suffering and bring peace to both the living and the dead.

At the time the adventure begins he is wearing barely worn traveling clothes with a well worn black cloak draped over his shoulders typically with the hood worn down to better hear and see what goes on around him. He carries a light crossbow strapped across his back and his father’s old but still particularly sharp sword at his side.

When in battle he always mutters prayers and farewells to the soon to be dead asking his god to forgive them even as he cuts them down.

Build wise he is much like his father. A big man wielding a big sword. I know nothing about the campaign beyond the guide (big part of its appeal really) so I may take Craft Magic Arms and Armor to get my father's sword enchanted if I fail to find anything particularly interesting or an enchanter. Also I don't know if you allow subdomains for inquisitors but if you do I'd very much rather have the Heroism domain then good since that fits more to the characters personality.

Sounds cool, here's who I'd like to play.

Name: Bela Skorzeny
AL: N
Class: Barbarian (Superstitious)

Concept: Graidmere swampfolk, raised by his grandmother who some claimed was an oracle of Pharasma. They lived in isolation even for the other Graidmere dwellers, and his only companionship was his grandmother who educated him with folk wisdowm and superstitions. One day he came home from hunting the swamp to find a strange man visiting his grandmother. The Professor needed a guide familiar with the Graidmere, his grandmother told him, and being a dutiful grandson, he obliged. The Professor continued to use his services whenever he was in the area and paid Bela well, not that the money was necessary, the swamp provided whatever they needed. Though it was nice he could buy his grandmother a replacement tea set for the one that was smashed agains the wall by an angry poltergeist. It had been a year since he had last seen the Professor when his grandmother called him into her room, she said her time had come and that Pharasma had set a crooked path for him. She instructed him to bury her body on the only patch of dry ground near their cabin and to seek out the Professor as she saw Bela's fate entwined with his. He did as he was told, as he always had, and then set out for the nearest civilization, the trading post. When he arrived, he found a letter awaiting him...

Traits: On the payroll, Undead Slayer (Religion trait Pharasma)

Pretty cool looking apps already. Okay, I'm gonna throw this hat into the ring.

Morbury Dedlock

I've still got things I need to tweak and finish up, corrections to be made, yada, yada, yada, but this is the heart of the character.

OK here is the spirit ranger profile I promised.
Race:Human
Class:Spirit Ranger(perhaps multiclass 2-weapon fighter)
Home:Graidmere Marsh
Alignment:LN

Full Profile located here: Tufeo

Background from above:
Tufeo, a spirit ranger. He is from the reclusive tribe that lives in the Graidmere swamp outside Karcau. He fights with dagger, trident (frog-gigger), and a large wicker shield. Close up weapons from fighting in swamp or bog.

It looks like Devestation Bob has a slightly different take on the Graidmere residents. If both selected we will need to reconcile our stories, maybe brothers, he honored our mothers path and Tufeo his father, but both parents dealt with the swamp spirits in different ways. :-)

I'm torn which way to go with this one....

Rokan
Human Rogue 1

While out courting some nobles daughter, mainly to gain access to her fasther's estate, Rokan came accross a scholarly man being beset by two thungs in an ally. Seeing the perfect chance to increase his stature in the young girl eyes, he quietly slipped behind the 2 thugs. They were so intent on the cornered professor they enver heard Rokan, until he slid his short swords into their backs.

Rokan receives the late proffessors summons at a most conveinent time, as he has just finished robbing his "fiancee's" father and is ready to call off the engagement. it wont be lon gbefore they connect him to the theft, and not just of the a few coins, Rokan is pretty sure the young lady is with child, and he doesn't want to be around for that discovery.

Or.....

Evelyn
Changling Magus 1

Found and Raised by a group of Scarzni, Eve has know she was different all her life. SStill, her adopted family have treated her as family and they have nurtured her talents. Learning magic and sowrdplay in equal parts, she has learned to blend the two opposing ways of sword and magic into one deadly form.

While out gathering berries, she happened upon a man being attacked by a ghoul. With spell and blade she leapt in and together the bested the undead beast. While at market purchasing suppiles, she reads a notive of the proffesors death and that she is among those mentioned in his will. Saying farwell to her adopted family, she sets out on her first adventure.

I'll flush out characters for you and can go more indepth with background and descriptions.

Here's another submission:

Luka Katic is the bastard son of a minor noble family, who has never quite been accepted, and never quite fit in. While studying at the University of Lepidstadt, the professor took a liking to him (Teacher's pet trait), and it was the professor who figured out that Luka was a dhampir. Finding himself with time on his hands, Luka has pursed various interests, whether it was the noble art of fencing or dabbling in the arcane, and he has found he has propensities for both (Magus). Largely without any direction in his life, he was greatly dismayed to learn of the death of the professor, and plans to attend the funeral to pay his respects to the one person who helped him learn who he is , and who accepted him openly.

I'm hoping they'll see the link I set up here for them. If they havn't gotten to me within the week I'll have to give the spaces up.

I've started stating out Evelyn and her background,

Is this closed? I"m GMT +3 and would LOVE to get involved. My weekends are Thursday-Friday, but I could definitely play/post daily. I'm not part of any other PbPs, so this would be my focus (and would get my attention).

Name Tharnik of Clan Black Sun
Race Half-Orc
Alignment NE*
Class Oracle (of Battle) w/ haunted curse

Stats here

Theme A conflicted, haunted half-orc that frequently identifies with his dark, savage side that secretly wants more for his life.

History Believed (rightfully so) to be cursed, Tharnik was exiled from his clan and cast out into the whole of Belkzen. He spent years wandering, alone, trying to come to terms with his place in society. While he had a taste for blood and turmoil, he always felt a pull to something beyond the base nature as an orc. And unlike many of the "half-breeds" he's encountered outside of his homeland, he identifies with his orc blood more than his human side.

Tharnik came to meet Professor Petros Lorrimorin eastern Ustalav. He, alongside a small group of mercenaries, had hoped to raid the professor's site (who was studying ruins along the southern coast of Lake Lias), but grew fascinated by him instead. He subsequently turned upon his two fellow raiders, killing them in their sleep and then approached the good professor, offering his services as a guard (and lying through his teeth, told the professor he saved him and his research). Ultimately, he hoped to learn more about his 'curse' from the professor, and in a stunning turn of events, came to like the man.

Tharnik is, by society's standards, evil. But he feels a firm pull to something "good" that exists beyond him and tries to temper his decisions by making rational choices. He's intelligent, and when he wants, charming, too.

If you think there's a place for Tharnik, I'll stat him up!

*Ultimately, Tharnik will shift to NG through the course of play.

@Tharnik: Nope. It's still open. If you check the OP, he's giving it a week. You're good.

Just a bit more info for DM Aron. Not real sure but I believe I am GMT -6. (Central Standard Time. Live in Texas.)

Also, my posting time is after 6pm(CST). Weekends are no problem. You may be looking for earlier posters, so, I figured I'd better give you that info if that's the case.

Thanks!

What can I say, sometimes the ideas just hit me.

Ama Freewater, Monk/Fighter
Traits: Teacher's Pet, Iron Liver

Having known the joys of travel and the glory of the outdoors thanks to his Varisian heritage, it was surprising that he decided (perhaps a bit too early, if you ask him) to take up what had been said to be a reputable job as a scholar. While the knowledge was interesting, the constant requirement of being within walls, squinting at tomes that had not been touched all that often with only the light of dimming candles was something that was not fond of.

Thankfully, some of the old tomes that were around in the library that he found himself in for the majority of the days (and nights) were not all dry texts. Some intrepid scholar had decided to document martial techniques from several different monasteries across several regions.

After the first incident in following the books, he took his practices outside. The bookshelf took forever to repair.

Professor Lorrimor visited and Ama jumped at the thought of being able to continue his studies and escape from inside the four walls of the college. Much to his surprise, the Professor took him on.

Hey, there. I'm interested in going in on this one. Here's an application for Asuna, Tiefling Cleric of Sarenrae. One, question, though. His stats were crafted using the Asura-spawn Tiefling variant from Bastards of Erebus (+2 Dex/Wis, -2 Int). The variant-Tiefling section also allows for variant racial features. His Darkness SLA is swapped for the See in Darkness ability possessed by Devils, and as far as physical features he's scaled and has a reptilian tail. Are the Tiefling variants permitted? If not, I can re-spec Asuna as a Tiefling or switch the character to be a Tengu or Changeling. I've included abbreviated views of what the changes would do in the profile. The background would be roughly the same, however. The character was written for a different part of Ustalav, so it wouldn't be too difficult to adapt it. I would need to add some material in to connect to Professor Lorrimor.

Traits: Flame of the Dawnflower, Chance Savior
Feat: Selective Channel
Race: Variant Tiefling
Class: Cleric (Sarenrae)

It looks like the CC PbP I was in has died due to lack of a GM, so here's my submission for that game. Hopefully she can find a place in this one.

@Darcy Sparrow and Evelyn. I had said at the top only classes from the core book and the APG.

Both Magus and Ninja aren't in those.

@Javell DeLeon I don't care about time frame as I give people 24 hours to reply after when I've posted new round when in combat, but story based, like talking to NPCs, investigating areas I go with the majority vote so if there's a case where one person hasn't replied due to net problems or real life ones, then the AP can continue. Makes things fairer that way I believe. Same I'll be leaving this up for about a week is it gives people plenty of time to make characters and respond, plus gives me time to read through the AP some more.

silly silly me, not sure how i missed that part. ah well, such is life, rework incoming asap

For some reason, had a hard time settling on a character, so ill submit Mordin KegHammer

DM Aron Marczylo wrote:

@Darcy Sparrow and Evelyn. I had said at the top only classes from the core book and the APG.

Both Magus and Ninja aren't in those.

Correct. Please ignore my second submission. I like my crazy dwardf mad-bomber alchemist better anyway.

Are you really going to keep this open for a week? You're already going to have a tough time with all these submissions.

DM Aron Marczylo wrote:

@Javell DeLeon I don't care about time frame as I give people 24 hours to reply after when I've posted new round when in combat, but story based, like talking to NPCs, investigating areas I go with the majority vote so if there's a case where one person hasn't replied due to net problems or real life ones, then the AP can continue. Makes things fairer that way I believe. Same I'll be leaving this up for about a week is it gives people plenty of time to make characters and respond, plus gives me time to read through the AP some more.

Thank you much for the info!

Sounds good.

well maybe not the entire week. Most likely decide to start it tomorrow or friday due to the interest.

Sorry about that. Here's Darcy reborn as a Rogue (Cutpurse)

Waiting with bated breath until then.

I guess if decisions may be made sooner I better post my submission.

My concept is a Gnome summoner who is a lover of languages and rides on the back of his serpent-like Eidolon. More background and character write up is here: Golorias

While I'm new to these boards and Pathfinder, I've had experience with DnD 3.5 and other PBPs. I'm hoping this can be my maiden voyage here.

I'll be leaving town tomorrow, and won't be back behind a computer again until Sunday or Monday; I look forward to finding out if I'm in once I return.

Hi Aron Marczylo,

Here’s my application for your Carrion Crown PbP. I am at GMT +8 and can commit to the once a day post though only from Mon-Fri and rarely or not on weekends. If that’s ok with you then you could consider my submission below. The hook at the end does not have to be necessarily tied to the Carrion Crown path. It’s just there for further character background of Erevir.

Erevir Veroshi, Elven Fighter:
CG, Male Elf, 100 years old. Black hair. Light brown eyes. 6ft, 160 lbs.
Erevir Veroshi comes from Kyonin, the kingdom of the elves. His father who was an elven trader usually took the young elf on his trading activities along the borders of Kyonin and Druma. One of these trading places was near a monk monastery. Erevir impressed with the monks swordplay, begged his father to let him stay on the monastery for long periods of time to learn the art of the blade. His father agreed.

And so begun Erevir’s training and so, too his special friendship with the monastery’s inhabitants. He stayed for months in the monastery. The talented elf showed much promise and was even one of the best students of the monks in the skill of the blade and was eventually offered as one of the few promising talents to join the adventuring company the monks send out of the monastery to gain further training in the outside world.

However, when old remnant creatures from the demon Treerazer threatened Erevir’s home town in Kyonin, the elf was forced to return home and help protect his family. He spent the first few months patrolling and hunting the surrounding areas of his home town with other elves but encountered no major battles. When he heard that the creatures had expanded their destructive path up to the borders of Druma spilling over to where the monk monastery stood, Erevir implored his kinsmen to allow him to help the monastery. As expected, the elves refused as they demanded that Erevir should have his loyalty first with his race. But believing he was more useful helping the monk monastery, Erevir defied his obligation to his kinsmen and stayed with the monks. True enough, the elf found himself useful in the monastery as the evil spawns of Treerazer ravaged the countryside around the monastery. He valiantly served as scout and protector of the monastery and its surrounding areas. Eventually the threat was eradicated.

Afterwards Erevir left the monastery as a hero and went home excitedly to tell his family about his adventures. But it was not to be a blissful reunion. The elf discovered that his family perished during the rampage of Treerazer’s evil spawns; one of the few casualties that his home town suffered from that episode.

Burdened with the guilt that he should have been with his family, Erevir left home to seek penance for his reckless decision. The orphaned elf sought the wisdom of the monks but although they surmised that Erevir committed no fault, the young elf was not consoled and fell into profound melancholy. The monks decided that if Erevir could not forgive himself then maybe the elf might find atonement if he undertook a sojourn into the outside world. The idea was acceptable to Erevir and pulled him out of his depression.

With renewed fervor, Erevir began his adventuring days. The life on the road suited him well and has helped the elf cope with his guilt. He turned towards the northwest of Kyonin across Lake Encarthan and never looked back until he reached Ustalav where the dark countenance of its countryside reminded the young elf of Treerazer’s evil and suited Erevir’s passion to fight all evils. It was in one of his forays in Ustalav’s countryside with an adventuring band that he crossed path with Professor Petros Lorrimor. Scouting ahead of his band, Erevir found the Professor, the lone survivor of an expedition group facing a band of goblins in the wilderness. Though outnumbered, the elf without a second thought fearlessly fought the goblins and heroically saved the scholar. The grateful professor promised that he will never forget what Erevir did. Though the elf was touched by the obvious gratefulness of the scholar, he still felt it was not enough to compensate the guilt he still felt for his family. After he parted ways with Professor Lorrimor, Erevir continued his adventures around Ustalav; still seeking for that grand adventure worthy enough to forgive himself.

One day while enjoying a well-deserved break from his adventures at his favorite inn at Caliphas, Erevir received a sealed letter from the innkeeper. Erevir was surprised to see that the letter came from the estate of the late Professor Petros Lorrimor asking him to go to Ravengro. Having felt some kind of kinship with his brief encounter with the professor who actually reminded the elf of his late father, Erevir set out to journey to Ravengro.

Here are the traits of Erevir: (one is not from the core rules hence it’s still for your approval should my application is accepted).

Campaign Trait: Chance Savior: Fate smiled on you and Professor Lorrimor one day in the not so distant past. Through a matter of pure chance, you were in a position to save the late scholar’s life and did so. His gratitude was effusive, and he promised that he would never forget you. You are unsure of the nature of the summons in his will, but believe he may have listed you as a possible heir in thanks for saving him from an untimely demise. Your ability to think quickly on your feet has stayed with you, and you quite often feel that you’re in the right place at the right time. You gain a +2 trait bonus on Initiative checks.

Regional Trait for Kyonin: Treerazer’s Bane: Having fought in many battles against the demon Treerazer, you have learned the best ways to kill the various creatures under his control. You gain a +2 trait bonus on weapon damage against demons, evil fey, and plants and animals corrupted by evil. Source: Pathfinder Player’s Companion: Inner Sea Primer, p. 10.

The novice monk enters the master’s small office holding a sealed rolled parchment with a green delicate silk string tying it securely in addition to the sealed wax of the same green hue.

“This just arrived, master.”

Cardino, the old monk looks up from what he was scribbling, a bit annoyed with the sudden intrusion but realized that he left his office door opened. All monks of the monastery know that Cardino only requires everyone to knock if his door is closed; and are free to enter when it’s left opened. Looking at the parchment’s appearance, the old monk knows that it came from the monastery’s contact in Kyonin, the kingdom of the elves.

“Thank you, Derian. And could you kindly take with you those red tomes by the window when you leave and give them to Master Largo? Tell him I’ve already marked the pages he needs with those colorful flat sticks he uses to mark the pages. And please close the door when you leave.”

Cardino opened the parchment as the young monk gathered the tomes. As he quickly reads the content, a great sadness envelopes him when he realizes the gravity of the message.

“Derian, wait!,” Cardino said just as the the young monk was leaving with the tomes. “Come here and please close the door.”

The young man complied and stood in front of the old monk, waiting for Cardino to continue.

“It seems you were expecting this missive, right?”

Derian knows denying it is useless as he is actually the one who insisted to the master monk to use their contact in Kyonin to really find out about what happened to Erevir’s family as the young monk heard from his other elven friends some disturbing rumours about those slain elves in the last incursion of Treerazer’s evil spawns. He actually heard that some of the slains were found not dead after all. Derian did not share this with Erevir as he did not want to give the young elf false hope.

Cardino not actually expecting an answer handed the letter to the young monk who eagerly read through it as well. Just like him, the young monk’s reaction is gloomy.

“Yes, Derian. Your source is right. Erevir’s family is not dead after all. But on the other hand is not alive as well.”

The young monk and the old monk look at each other meaningfully, both actually surmising the same thing in the ominous silence. Cardino finally voiced it out.

“Maybe it’s fate then that brings Erevir to Ustalav. Whatever his family has become, I trust that should he meet them there, it can finally bring some closure to his guilt. For better or for worse. Let’s pray then for Desna’s guidance on our young elf friend.”

Thanks for the offer Aaron but I'm too busy to add this game to my line-up of games at this time.

Thanks again for the Forgotten Realms game and Badger had plenty of fun but he is retired for the time being.

KK and the other guy is having some real life problems so for everyone that applied, both spots have opened up giving you all a better chance. Now I just have to make a decision.

I'm interested in the game. This is my first PbP on this site, but not my first overall.

I'm applying with Aspexia Rasdovain. She and Opera singer and part of the Chelix nobility (minor house, which I've fleshed out in her background) who once taught the professor about the subject.

I still have to select feat, pick some additional equipment and finish the background.

For your consideration, Rauno Redpath for markofbane. He is a tiefling wizard (diviner), and has the Chance Savior trait.

Spoiler:
Blame and bitterness followed Rauno everywhere he went, until he met Professor Lorrimor. He was born to a young Varisian woman and an unknown father. When his mother strayed from her family’s caravan one evening, she was enchanted and seduced by a stranger, and Rauno was born of the encounter. The caravan accepted him, mostly because his mother was so beloved by all in the clan. The crimson and gold scales that ran along his back, shoulders, arms and left hand were largely ignored by the family, though he still did his best to keep them concealed.

Rauno’s happy existence with the clan lasted for many long years, and he learned much from his family. The elder who tutored the children of the clan was amazed with how quickly Rauno learned, so much so that he challenged Rauno with a strange book from his collection. At first Rauno didn’t understand the text, but as months rolled by he obsessed with it and eventually puzzled out the beginnings of its content. It was a spell book of a low level wizard, and Rauno was able to understand the language and coding within it. After a year with the book in his possession, Rauno showed the elder tutor that he had mastered a couple of basic cantrips, and the elder declared that he could keep the book and encouraged him to continue his studies.

This happy existence ended prematurely when he was a teenager. His mother died in an accident, struck in the head by a hoof while trying to calm a horse spooked during a lightning storm. Bitterness and anger welled in Rauno, and he became even more obsessed with increasing his mystical power. Within months he could no longer remain with his clan; their sad eyes every time they looked at him re-opened the wound of loss every day.

Rauno followed his instincts, which led him to Cheliax. There he found wizards glad to take him on, and use him to do their deeds for him. With his internalized rage, he was willing to carry out cruel commands in a most callous manner. This continued for a couple of years, until Rauno finally met his true goal.

One night, Rauno was able to steal through the darkness of the wizard’s keep unnoticed. In a large ritual chamber, he was able to find the scroll that he needed. The scroll’s power was well beyond Rauno’s power, but through sheer intellect and force of will he cast the spell it contained, contributing his own blood in the act. In an act of incredible audacity, he summoned his infernal ancestor, a pit fiend. Rauno demanded answers of the monster, and it only mocked and taunted him. The fiend made pronouncements about Rauno’s future, terrible and fearful predictions which ended with Rauno’s life ending and his soul being remanded to the fiend. As Rauno recoiled from the devil, it started to fight the mystical bonds of the summoning chamber. The senior wizards rushed in, and immediately began arguing on how to handle the situation. In the confusion, Rauno fled.

Rauno ran for hours, generally heading north back to his home. When he finally passed out in the woods, he was visited in his dreams by a vision of his mother. She reminded him of the way a good life should be lead, and made it clear that he could change his path, reject the fiend’s pronouncements and take his future into his own hands.

When he awoke, Rauno did begin to focus more on the future. He continued travelling north, but steered clear of his homeland. He studied divination magic at every opportunity, eventually ending up in Ustalav.

Rauno had to move a lot in Ustalav. He couldn’t always hid his heritage, and found that he was typically blamed for anything going wrong in the community he was currently staying in. During one of these sudden moves in the dark of the night, Rauno stumbled across a battle. A small band of explorers was besieged by a band of orcs, and losing badly. Remembering the vision of his mother, Rauno intervened. A couple of quick castings of Color Spray turned the tide quickly. As they finished off the attackers, Rauno was knocked into the blazing camp fire, and one of the explorers, Professor Lorrimor, came to his aid.

When Lorrimor pulled Rauno from the fire, he saw that while Rauno’s shirt was burned away, his back, with the scales now exposed, was unharmed by the flame. When the battle was settled, Rauno prepared to leave quickly, knowing that his heritage was again exposed. Professor Lorrimor stopped him, thanking him effusely for his intervention and dismissing his heritage. “Clearly,” said the professor “the blood of your human parentage is quite fine, and is able to channel the darker blood for great purpose!”

Rauno and the professor became friends after that, and they talked often late into the night on all sorts of topics. The professor never forgot Rauno’s intervention that night, and at times when the drinking ran late he would bring it up again, reminding Rauno that he was truly a good soul, and to hold onto that. As much as the professor insisted he was in Rauno’s debt, Rauno always felt it was the other way around.

Well I'll just make that decision a tad easier. I am afraid I will need to withdraw my application. I feel bad about this and I lok forward to playing in a game you run in the future but I am afraid i will not be able to give this game the attention it deserves right now.

I do plan on lurking the threads as it looks like it will be a blast. So please do not consider me as a drop out but rather as an enthuastic audience member.

I'm afraid I'll have to do the same. I got picked up in the same game the aimlessly stumbling hobo got picked up in. I might consider throwing in another app for a different character if you haven't made a decision by tonight but with the number of people applying I likely won't since I don't want to prevent someone from playing in this AP.

AS! YOU! WISH!

Allow me to gather the several thousand gold necessary to purchase a normal firearm...

I've finished the background of my character. I'll decided on feat selection and the other minor things once you make the decision.

Just in case being 2nd level, in Cheliax, with a Council of Thieves campaign trait isn't enough to disqualify me, I'll explicitly state I'm not throwing my hat in the ring. (Would, but I'm lucky enough to already be in a Carrion Crown PbP.) Freya just had to drop by to needle you one last time. ;)

Aww man, Aron. Wish I had seen this a couple of days ago before I picked up a CC game. Good luck, I'll be following along with you guys.
