Someone said there was a movies forum?

After a 22% Rotten Tomatoes score, I wasn't expecting much. Wow! Was I surprised. This is a far better than average Sword & Sorcery movie. If you like playing around with 20 sided dice, you may like this movie.

Caution! It earned its R rating in every way. So you may want to keep the little ones at home.

Hyborean Winnebago! LOL

Well... I wasn't overly thrilled about the movie. In some ways it was okay, but I felt it lacked flow. It was like riding a bike with hexagon-shaped wheels. You'd move forward, but clunkily.

Good fighting scenes, good CG, but we kinda zapped around a bit...

Glad I saw it, though not sure I'll see it again...

So sad..

I quite liked it, in a not Masterpiece Theatre sort of way. Great popcorn flick. Don't see it in 3-D if 2-D is available. Really only a couple of scenes they used the 3-D for. I liked that they did make reference to a couple of the REH stories in the dialogue. I also liked that the slave freeing scence was pure REH Conan. He did it for the women and the treasure (despite saying the contrary). Overall, I'll buy it on Blu-Ray when it comes out.

It did lack flow (good analogy by the way). It was far from good film making. I am not sure if it was the director or the editing or both that failed this movie. It is way better than the typical "mythical beast raids town" movies on Syfy. It was better than quite a few Sword & Sorcery movies I have paid good money to see. It is at least as good as the Arnold Conan, and I would say maybe better. And Jason Momoa truly makes a credible Conan. They did take the subject matter seriously, and thus it was not campy, as so many of these types of movies are (see Dungeons & Dragons the movie). It was D&D like fun! (Or should I say Pathfinder on these forums. :)) And bottom line that makes it worth seeing. (But again it is not for little ones.)

I believe all fantasy movies may now be held to the same standard as Lord of the Rings. That is unfortunate. That would be like saying all films need to be held to the same standard as The Godfather or Casablanca. Film Critics killed this movie which means there will be fewer and fewer of these types of movies being made. This is terribly unfortunate.

You make a lot of good points. I feel despondent that the sequels are in jeopardy; 40 million international/U.S. total gives me a little hope though. I think that whatever problems there were with the movie were minor, could be worked out, and as one reviewer said we could perhaps have a sequel that's better than the original.

I think a big problem that's more nature of the beast than "bad filmmaking" was the R rating; nobody could bring their kids to this thing. No teenagers could go to this thing.
There's a lot worse movies that slid in with a PG-13 that did a whole lot better box office than this one.
I'm just bummed because I agree with you; I think this movie really got panned harder than it deserved.

I saw it, and I was entertained for 2 hours. Now I gotta see Dungeon Siege, because if Dungeon Siege is better than this movie I oughtta freakin love it!!!

Dungeon Siege is SO not better then this Conan movie.

*Cries, because Dungeon Siege is a Cimmerian and will not cry.*

Well, you do not have to worry about "Dungeon Siege"'s sequel!

Uwe Boll is one curiously busy director.

Dolph Lundgren says:
"It's fun to exercise my acting chops once in a while."
...you know, to get ready for Expendables 2, and such...

'Postal', 'Bloodrayne', 'House of the Dead', and 'Alone in the Dark' were also incredible acting workshops, and all involved found critical and financial acclaim as a direct result.

Yep.

And his movies are now useful in connecting actors in the '6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon' challenge. So that's one positive thing to come from the Uweverse. One is better than none, right? :-/

Hell; if Dungeon Siege II is going to happen, and that thing made 13 mill international on 60 mil budget,......
I'm not worried any more.

Being paid by the German government lets you suck at whatever you want.

The special effects of this movie I sometimes dream in nightmares!
