At my work we have a Z File on our network that we store our files on I back up all my PDFs on the Z file from my laptop well my "Pathfinder" file that has everything that Pathfinder has ever made was messed with the files were changed moved and stuff. So im wondering if someone has stollen some of my PDFs with my names on them if they get online I would be so pissed not just because I would lose all my PDFs but I would also hurt Paizo because they would be all the files of everybook they have writen

I have you contact the officer IT Admin yet? I would let them know about it and tell your boss about it. I am assuming those where suppose to be secure and if they are not. Then that is something that needs to be looked into. Plus the IT department might be able to track the files down as well.

Beyond that I would keep a eye out for them and if you find them up somewhere report it to paizo so they can take steps to deal with it.

I just dont want to get them out there and then have Paizo wipe out my downloads

I work at a highschool our school tech is way over worked and our IT department is kinda broke if you know what i mean so they wont spend alot of time protecting our files

I wouldn't use the school storage for anything other than work (I work highschool and we have them at my school too). I don't keep anything critical there either. Students have access to the network and the little munchkins are inventive. I back up my PDFs on a portable hard drive. That way they can travel with me to club at school, or anywhere else I run a game. It's fairly cheap for quite a bit of storage these days as well (the last time I bought one it was under $100 for 250 gigs of storage -- probably more storage for that price now). I'd suggest Western Digital myself. Good luck with it. Hopefully no one copied them. Too many people think everything in life should be free and shared with everybody -- if they don't get in trouble for it...

Just to comment on what R_Chance said. You can get a 250gig external HD for less than 50 bucks these days if you shop around. A local store has Western Digital ones for 45 bucks.

I am a tech at a high school, and I can confirm that the kids spends twice as much time trying to mess with stuff on the computer than they do doing actual work. I don't know how far your techs go with security, as there are things to do that don't require funds, just a little time. I would suggest you keep the files on a flash drive or a DVD-RW and not on a shared network drive, even if it is a private section from a disk quota. I have caught plenty of kids who think they are little hackers with all kinds of software tools. Granted, 19 out of 20 are just dorks that just copy and paste from the internet and like to call themselves hackers, but then there are those halfway smart ones who do it on their own and can actually do some damage.

I do some work in computer security. If it's important to you, don't store data on a compromised resource. Just don't do it. I second everyone else's recommendations of flash drives and external disks and/or CD Roms. Offline storage is the best.

Yeah I didnt realize that it wasnt that secure
