Liberty's Edge

I am running PFS on the RPOL site - my game is HERE

After a bit of a shaky start - we lost the original GM so my character went for a beer and I took over - the first game is drawing to a close. The players all want to continue, but there's room for more.

I am happy to accept existing PFS or new ones... so please come on over and join us if you'd like to be in an online game. Perfect if you cannot find PFS in your area, or if games are too infrequent for your taste!

This sounds interesting but never used RPOL, is it easy to use?

Heya Artemis, good to hear from ya.

I'd be willing to play some PFS online every once in awhile. I used to play Living Force online but it used a different service. Is RPOL easy to use and is it a free download?

RPOL is a gaming site/forum - there's nothing to download. It is easy to navigate and a nice community. Hundreds of games going on over there from just about every system known to the gaming world!

Correct: RPOL is a very straightforward forum system, but allows the GM a lot of control and flexibility. It's particularly good for allowing multiple groups, handling party splits, etc. Plus you can post character sheets just for the GM while having a 'cast list' where everyone can see just what each player wants known about his character and so on.

One person from the Paizo boards has already come along to visit...

For those starting out in PFS, I will be running Master of the Fallen Fortress which ends with characters being invited to join the Society. Existing characters will be slotted into other scenarios as appropriate.

For those who want to use a character that they play in tabletop as well, I will supply appropriate documentation that they can print out to present to other GMs, and will accept a scan of the paperwork that they have from previous games.

Okay, I am moving beyond interested. My only other involvement with online RPG was several years ago in a simple chatroom/dice roller environment. This system took forever. Simple combats took hours. How long is an average mod taking to play out? ("Masters..." is an extended mod). How do you handle the length?

Liberty's Edge

Like any play-by-post, they are considerably slower than a tabletop game. Combat can be even more time-consuming, so I run it thus:

I start by declaring that we are going into combat mode, and ask for initiative rolls. I also request that the same post contain the first action and ALL necessary die rolls for its resolution. I then wait a maximum of 24 hours and then post a summary of that round, showing what everyone did in the correct order.

Repeat as necessary until combat is over.

Online games wouldn't work with a character you do want to play frequently in face-to-face games, but might if you only get to conventions once a year or so and want to do something with the character in between times. If you are active in face-to-face games and want to play online, I'd generally suggest starting a new character.
