Gloves of Riding

I hate pricing magic items (especially when they duplicate feats, as I don't see how it's done in the magic item creation rules...) so I've taken the "Gloves of Arrow Snaring" as a base to create the subject item, at the same 4,000gp price. Let me know what you think.

Gloves of Riding (same as Gloves of Arrow Snaring but Mounted Combat feat instead of Snatch Arrow feat)

Sczarni RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

In a previous campaign I ran, the wizard created a full set of mounted combat related magic items that gave feat abilities. We were running a mounted combat heavy Kingmaker style campaign.

Riding Boots - Mounted Combat, 4k gp

Riding Chaps - Ride By Attack, 6k gp

Riding Gloves - Spirited Charge, 8k gp

They weren't the best names he could come up with, but eventually most of the group was equipped with them. He was an avid fan of the game Diablo and liked making his gear in sets.

Agreed with Thomas above, I think boots suit the function of this item more. For an extra 3750 I'd throw in a +5 to the Ride skill too.

Thanks Zappo. I suck at item creation math: could you give me the breakdown on how you get to 3750? also, does it make a difference on price to have this in boot form instead of glove form?

Cheers!

EDIT: found this on p.549 of PRPG... would a bonus to Ride skill be a "similar" ability to the Mounted Combat feat?

Multiple Similar Abilities: For items with multiple similar
abilities that don’t take up space on a character’s body, use
the following formula: Calculate the price of the single most
costly ability, then add 75% of the value of the next most costly
ability, plus 1/2 the value of any other abilities.

Multiple Different Abilities: Abilities such as an attack
roll bonus or saving throw bonus and a spell-like function
are not similar, and their values are simply added together
to determine the cost. For items that take up a space on a
character’s body, each additional power not only has no
discount but instead has a 50% increase in price.

It wouldn't matter if it was counted as a 'similar' ability or not, since that discount only applies to items that don't take up a slot on your body (as bolded above). Anything that you actually wear and add abilities to count as the 2nd option you quoted above, which is where I got the 3750 from. Skill Competence bonus squared x 100 (5 x 5 x 100 = 2500), +50% is 3750.

I think you are interpreting this wrong, no? Its not the item that not take a slot in the users body, its the second ability.

When do any abilities take up a slot on a character's body? It's the item that takes up the slot. Are there any items that take up one slot, while their abilities take up another?

Further, you need only look at the magic items in the book and work the math backwards. Belts stat boosts for instance. +2 to one stat costs 4000. +2 to two stats costs 10000. 10000 = 4000 + (4000*1.5)

My interpretation is correct. The discount applies to items that have to be wielded or held in hand, or slotless items (which already cost double, so the discount is welcome).
