Help with pricing a new Figurine of Power

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

The story goes like this: Our Gm isn't too good with keeping us close to standard Wealth By Level. Every 4 or so levels, he works in a visit to an armory of some sort to let us gear back up to standard wealth. The problem is, he likes to give out customized items for each character.

We're probably going to be hitting another of these "restocks" within a few sessions, and my character (who has levels of Dragon Rider from the 3.5 Draconomicon) has a custom item, a "Figurine of Wondrous Power: Glass Dragon." It can turn into a young Bronze Dragon for one hour, once per month.

Here's the stat block for those who don't want to go to pg 104 in the bestiary:

My Gm's figuring a value of 40,000gp. I think that's way too high, but I don't know what a good value would be. My closest comparison would be the Marble Elephant Figurine. That's 17,000gp for a CR7 for 24 hrs at a time, 4 times per month.

Whaddya think?

WOW, 40k for an item you can use only once a month for an hour. Actually, tell your Dm it's easily worth 60k and sell it right away. Buy something you can use now. Your instincts on price are correct.

I think the pricing would be spot on if this figurine could also be used 24 hours at a time, 4 times per month.

It might be a fair price at 12 hours at a time, 2 times per month, or something along those lines.

But only 1 hour at a time, and only once per month? I would sell it as soon as possible.

But I don't wanna sell it. Mt character is a Dragon Rider and this is the only dragon he's got reliable access to(plot of the day not withstanding).

That is a good point. I'd advocate upping the duration per use and number of times you can use it per month, rather than getting a price reduction. That would probably help you more in the long run.

Unfortunately, the best I'd be able to do is one hour, twice per month.

Does 25,000gp sound reasonable for that? 20,000?

It's kind of similar to an Ivory Goat of Travail Figurine, which costs 21,000gp for (essentially) a Nightmare mount. It can be used up to 12 hours once per month.

Yours would make a more powerful mount (and more powerful combat option) but with much lower duration.. 25,000gp sounds fairly fair for that, in comparison.

How about 25,000gp for 2hrs/use once a week? I'm doing some theoretical math that points to just about that.
