Maybe you could be more specific because the book that has those is just the Player's Handbook? Detect Good/Evil/Law/Chaos are all in the core rules.

it was spells like Detect Hostility or Detect Motives, or something along those lines. there was several spells to use in a more grey-area alignment style game.

they were for 3.5. I have pretty much every 3.5 issue of dragon, but i have no clue with issue they were in, and I'd rather not have to go through every ish to find the right one.
