Two PbPs in need of players! (one Star Wars and one PFRPG)

Gamer Connection

Hi everyone.

I'm currently running two Play by Posts here on Paizo's forums and sadly because of some scheduling problems on my end and a number of RL reasons on theirs I've lost a few players from each game. Below I'll give a quick overview of the respective games, the active PCs left and how many players I'm looking for.

Game One:

Shadows of Faerun: A Forgotten Realms PFRGP.

Shadows came out of the idea to use the Spellplague as a story telling event while still using a ruleset I enjoyed. What came of this is a Forgotten Realms that takes most of its inspiration from the grey box up to the 3.5 edition, but also taking influence from the new 4e material (though no major continents have swapped places as of yet.) That game is set in 1396 DR, eleven years after the Spellplague began and only one year since its end.

The game focuses on The Swords of Shadowdale. a small adventuring group that was charted by King Azoun V of Cormyr after one of these adventurers, a rough tempered Northman, was given possesion of The Blackstaff. The Swords of Shadowdale are currently investigating Fort Oak, a trading post on the edge of the Dalelands border with Cormanthor as they venture on their way to Myth Drannor.

Current active players:

Ruhk "The Blackstaff": a Northman fighter who has been mystically gifted with The Blackstaff. He will be multiclassing to mage and working towards an Eldritch Knight build.

Daen Cormaeril: A Paladin

Allepo Nadun: A Sembian Rogue

I think that pretty much any class could fit in with these players, as they've got a pretty good mix. Given where they are I would recommend a rustic character who may have been living at Fort Oak or an Elf from Myth Drannor.

Looking for TWO players.

Game #2:

The Saber's Edge - a Star Wars SAGA PbP

Set in the Dark Times, The Saber's Edge follows the makings of one of the very first organised oppositions to Emperor Palpatine's rule. Known simply as The Resistance (for now at least), these brave heroes have banded together with Captain Raymus Antilles of Alderaan and are working to build a force to fight against the Empire. At the moment The Resistance is engaging in a three pronged attack to liberate a Prison convoy and to save a defecting Imperial Admiral and his ship.

Currently active players:

H'ishmau - A Togorian soldier

Cordal Mhoy - A Duros Jedi Padawan and pilot

Aran Finn - a Human Scoundrel with a knack for mechanics.

ZCC or "Zee" Aran's small cleaning droid who has become adept at surveilance, hacking and other illegal matters.

Again pretty much any class will fit. I reccomend making a character who has been arrested for dissent against the Empire, or an Imperial agent who has second thoughts to the Empire and has defected with the Admiral.

Looking for ONE player.

Please note: Normally my game's run at a 1 to 2 days time frame per post, not including weekends. Right now my life is quite hectic so this may not be accurate for the first month of your playing with us.

Just my two cents, but a little bit of healing might be nice, perhaps a Druid in the horizon?

Still need one to two players for the Realms Game.

My player came back for Star Wars, so I won't be accepting submissions for it.

Rennick, would a gunslinger be possible for your Forgotten Realms game?

I would be very interested in playing the PFRPG campaign. I have never played PBP before, so I will need a little guidance as to what you want me to do for presenting character stats and such. I'm not very familiar with forgotten realms (I've always played homebrew, not much experience with forgotten realms beyond neverwinter nights), but I've always liked the flavor.

Character Details:
I'm interested in a sorcerer (human male, nothing fancy). More character details in a later post, I still need to decide on a bloodline and such. However, if a divine character would fit with the party/story better, I've been meaning to try out an oracle also, just let me know!

Character Background idea:
Ardil Larst of Zhentil Keep

A helper in a merchant's caravan, he never aspired to much. He was just happy to have a way to pay for food and fulfill his desire to travel. He had been with this caravan since his boyhood days, then just helping carry the goods and watching out for thieves in the marketplaces. These days, he had thankfully found that he had a knack for convincing people that they should buy his wares and moved up in the world to fill a position of a seller.

When he joined the caravan, ten years ago, the spellplague was just beginning and nobody knew if Faerun would survive this calamity. He was desperate to see some part of the world before the sky fell; he did not want to die in his parents' hut. The caravan had taken him as far as Calemport and Waterdeep, and he was content to live out the rest of his life in this employ.

Some time ago, however, on a moonless night camped on a stopover in the woods, he awoke to find a strange creature in his tent. She was a tiny thing, barely taller than his hip, and spoke singingly in a soft language that he could not understand. Watching her move about the room, moving in strange and repetitive ways, he finally understood that she was performing a ritual of some sort. He felt a strange compulsion to stand up and begin following her lead, helping her along in her unintelligible performance.

The next morning, he had no recollection of what happened after that. That same day, he found himself manifesting unusual abilities, as lights sparkled around him when his another caravan member startled him. With some practice he figured out how to make small objects move from across the room... It wasn't long before he understood that he had been granted some sort of power.

Just like the caravan passing his parents' home many years ago, he realized that this was another chance to do something new and exciting. Unfortunately for him, by this time his caravan was in the small trading outpost of Fort Oak, where little excitement was to be found. nevertheless, he bid goodbye to his caravan and set out determined to find like-minded adventurers.

Kyson Tirc of Lyrabar

Background draft:

Born in Impiltur, sent to New Sarshel for training a age 8, then to north Lyrabar fighting against demons and to protect Impiltur for the last 31 years. Now, breaking the age of 50, Kyson Tirc wanted nothing more than to do with demons or Impiltur.

During his last fights against the endless abominations that seem to spew forth from Narfell and the frozen north, Kyson has decided that he needed a change of pace. Maybe it was the demon that slew is favorite acolyte, or maybe it was yet another night filled with the screams of too many of the dying and he with too little time. Either way, Kyson knew he would not last much longer.

Begging his superiors for relief, he feels he has earned time away from the nightly watch over the horrors that seem to creep into Impiltur without end.

As a cleric of Tymora/Avandra (your name may vary), many would think Kyson would have found much luck during his service to the defense of Impiltur...and in a way, they are right. He lives and breathes this very day and every day he thanks Tymora for her protection.

But after 31 years, Kyson is tired of the pain, tired of screams, the icy demonic horrors in cold wastelands forgotten by many gods and mortals alike. Eventually, he thought about getting out and exploring...finding some time away. Even thinking about retirement.

Thankfully, his superiors recognize the desire for something different in Kyson's eyes. They hope that after a few years away, the priest will return to battle demons once again. As it stands now, Kyson is free to explore more of Faerun and possibly find another sort of demon to fight...his own or any of the many other dangers to the realm.

* * * *

Still planning the exact build, but this is about it:

Human Male
Cleric of Tymora/Avandra
Luck and XXX Domains (TBD)
Feats: Something out of this group: Alignment Channel, Selective Channel, Spell Penetration, CWI, Elemental Spell, Improved Channel
Traits: TBD
Notable Skills: Diplomacy, Heal, Religion, Demonology (Kn Planes)

Equipment: TBD

I can send you a full character sheet if you like where this is going.

I'm likely interested in a sorcerer... please let me know what you want me to post and where.

Vip00, generally the best way I've seen is to create an alias on the messageboards with your character's name and stats in the profile. That seems to work pretty well around these parts.

Thanks for the heads up!

I'll work on one of those if/when Rennick tells me that he's willing to give me a shot (and hopefully gives me stats and a level! Yay!)

Just a quick drop in, I haven't had time to go over the character concepts yet, but I wanted to answer a couple questions.

Characters are currently at Lvl 1, I think we used 20 point buy (whichever the good but not superpowered build is. I'll check later.)

James - I definitely like a bit of victorian and steampunk in my Fantasy, so I'm definitely game for Gunslingers.

In Faerun (mine at least) Firearms and other technology came into wider use shortly after the spellplague began. When the islands of Lantan were decimated, the Gnomes who survived or escaped spread out across Faerun. Many such survivors took refuge within Dwarven clans and shared their technological wisdom with the Dwarves. Working together, these dozen or so Dwarven clans began producing various new works of technology and have been exporting them for almost a decade now. Among these technologies are firearms, (though still limited in their use and how widespread they are.) All handheld firearms are made by hand.

Which rules for Star Wars are you using? d20 or SAGA? And what level that game currently at?

As stated above, the player I was looking to replace returned. I won't be accepting character submissions for Star Wars.

If you are using SAGA, I may still read it to see how they actually work in play. I've read them, but have never had a chance to see how they actually play out in comparison to the d20 rules.

Feel free to, search "Rennick's" in the Play By Post forum and all my games come up.

Saga isn't a bad system except for the tendacny for jedi to be a little over powered i love the way armor is used in it.

Rennick,

I still need some guidance on character creation, but here's a basic fighter for your perusal.

James

Hey James, The stats look great (though Don't Gunslingers get 2 pistols?), but I'm more interested in the backstory and concepts for characters.

What would you like help with? Campaign background (if so I'll post it tomorrow, it's quite late for me at the moment) and if it is world background, if you have a particular area of Faerun you would like to know more about I can be more specific.

Shadow Lodge

Hey Rennick, sorry for dropping in to steal a player's attention!

James, are you still interested in the Noble Wild game?

Rennick,

Here's something along the lines of what I was thinking. I modified the back story since my original post a bit, but it's all in the same vein. I used a feat out of the pathfinder campaign setting. Is that a problem? You haven't really defined what kind of source material you would like us to use, so please let me know if that's a problem. It should be only thing that I am planning on using outside of the core rulebook and the APG.

Let me know if you think this is appropriate or if you need something else!

vip00

James, have you chosen not to submit a character? I need your background and such.

Kython - I like it! roll up your stats using the 20 point buy. Only select one trait (I'l tailor a campaign one for you asap)

Ardil - How much do you know of Realms lore? I'm curious why you chose Zhentil Keep? The reason why I ask is that Zhentil Keep is the base for the Zhentarim, a criminal organization and all around bad people. In fact they're involved in the campaign's backstory. Is this intentional? if not it should probably be changed. either way I need clarification before I give a yes or no

Rennick, will post up one tomorrow morning. Weekend's been... odd is a good word for it.

I am not very familiar with Realm lore, I just picked a place that is in a different part of the world than where we are starting. Something like Westgate or even further away would work well!

Let me know and that can be tweaked.

Kython = Kyson, right? My cleric/demon hunter from Lyrabar?

If so, I'll get something built today.

Rennick--

For your feedback: Kyson Tirc.

I'm happy to make changes/adjustments and discuss how to get inserted into things.

-Pain

Oops. Yes it was meant to be Kyson. I'm ready Monte Cook's Ptolus campaign journal right now, there's a homebrew monster in it named Kython. I'm looking it over now.

Kyson - Accepted, head over the the discussion thread. I've got a couple ideas on how to get you in the game.

ooc thread

and here's the game, though please wait to be inserted before posting there.

Shadows of Faerun

Waiting a bit longer for James before picking our last option.

Vip00 - Westgate's a solid choice. It's a larger city, very urban and pretty corrupt with many officials in the pockets of the thieves guild. Though it is not a bastion of evil or anything. It's kinda Gotham City with swords. I also have no plans to bring the game there (though who knows for sure0

Hey Rennick, you still looking for one more player for the PFRPG?

Got an idea for a ranger heavily influenced by Natty Bumppo from The Last of the Mohicans by James Fennimore Cooper. Especially if you have limited access to firearms.

Human ranger who is good friend with dwarves whom took him in and taught him their ways as a teenager. Often aids in the tracking and hunting of orks and duegar. Dwarves gave him a musket after demonstrating skill with the device at a large festival celebrating a young smith's first battle axe. TWF with hand axe and dagger when not working the ranged angle. Probably would go skirmisher from APG as it would suit the character better. Will do full write up if you are interested.

Jack was born on the streets of Neverwinter, cast out by his mother, who he never knew. He grew up as a ward of the Church of Torm, but the harsh discipline required never fit him well. When he was 12 he ran away and was adopted into a gang of street kids who worked as lookouts for the local Thieves' Guild. He worked his way up from there to a basher, guarding the Guild from intrusion. That was his life until the day he was sent along on a job to act as extra muscle to carry out a haul from a rich merchant's mansion. While he was looting a bedroom he discovered a hidden cache containing two pistols and a stash of gunpowder and shot. He had heard of such things, knew their worth and made a quick decision: he grabbed the cache and ran.

He's been on the run from the Thieves' Guild as well as from the merchant for the last two years. He's changed his name several times, finally emerging as Jack Ketch, a man of no particular history and no particular town. Unfortunately for him, the pistols were rather distinctive in decoration, made to resemble two grinning imps, with the barrels firing from their open mouths. Now he's looking to hook up with a band of adventurers, mainly to get away from Neverwinter but also to find some companionship after so many years on the run. He thinks he's home free, but only time will tell...

Rennick, are we starting at 1st or 2nd level?

This wasn't an easy one, and actually I flip flopped a few times.

Jack is accepted to the game

Build for lvl 1, 20 point buy, only select one trait.

The game and the OOC thread are linked above.

I'll be writing you into the game on this post.

Ardil, I am sorry, it's nothing against you man. I plan on starting another game in a month or so and would love to have you in on the ground floor for that one.

That's sad, what happened to taking both as of a couple minute ago?

Oh well I guess, I can wait another month or two to find my first pbp!

Haha, you're fast on the draw.

and I thought about it for the extra minute, and that one of my players who's absent right now has said they're coming back in a month. Six is manageable, seven gets dificult.

Also Jack, please post background and appearance in your profile
