Hey, everyone. It seems that I've been placed in the "time-out" corner for several hours. I don't know what I did, but if I offended someone, I'm sorry. Aside from managing my play-by-post, I don't think I'll be on the forums very much for a while. Again, I'm sorry.

are you sure? The website was down for a few hours by my reckoning.

Rainbow is panicking over an invisible enemy.

Spoiler:
Said enemy simply went to lean against the wall. They're nowhere near him and flailing around with weapons in the air. I'm a bad person.

Wow. This is like the exact opposite of me. I'm meh on anime as stated many times before and I'm with Cap on saying Stranger Things is easily the greatest "tv" show I've seen in years.

That said I also never would have ever thought of ST's pacing as glacial, or even all that slow. I think that's the most surprising bit about this commentary for me.

If you want a glacial pace watch Better Call Saul.

I love that show but I don't need a half hour of Mike the security guard cleaning his car.

*sigh*

Today I shot two planetary law enforcement grunts who were working for the governor's conspiracy when they come for us, after we were recovering from being blown in a limo sent for us by the corrupted governor who used us being blow as an excuse to introduce martial law and suspend an uncorrupted security officer of local Imperial food producing facility...

After we conspired with the said security officer to seek proof of the governor's corruption.

And the security officer was an imperial stormtrooper who ended being officer because one year ago he survived being shot at multiple times and a grenade thrown into his post when we were freeing a prisoner from an Imperial Outpost.

Ahem, but I digress. After removing two of the opponents managed to score a Triumph on his attack roll with stun gun, incapacitating me for a turn. Next turn he rolled another triumph, staggering me again. Next turn he rolled another triumph. And then his companions came and stunned me into unconsciousness. All in all they managed to capture three out of four party members, while our valorous and vicious melee fighter fled into the woods.

Our slicer lost her arm when our limo was blow and exclaimed it to be the best session in recent times.

I skimmed John's recent posts - I don't notice anything of bannable content. Does anyone know who's in charge of banning people on the boards and I'll have words with them?

*shows a grin full of pointed fangs*

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm sure it was a glitch or something, they don't usually ban for less than twenty four hours.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

And the people who are in charge of that are all Paizo employees. No one who doesn't work for the company has any actual forum power.

A PM has been sent to Cosmo as from his post history he has been responsible for locking threads. If I don't get a reply I'll find his thread and yowl in it.

I think the lawful way of discussing such matters is using an e-mail provided in FAQ/Community Guidelines.

So boring.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

To be specific, I was unable to post anything for three hours and fifteen minutes between one and four, yet five other people made posts in that time period. Awfully selective for a glitch.

John, I think it’s a glitch and not a ban. I had that problem before and I had to inform all my Reign of Winter people that the post gobbling monster ate up my posts…

Well to my credit I did ask this thread who was responsible for it so I could go use the proper channels…

Johns trying to say it was down for him. I experienced that problem before.

Don’t worry, I wasn’t any better the first time it happened to me, John. I was pming all my players asking them if it was because I posted that if they wanted me to run anything PFS they had to get me the module in question, and it was illegal to write something like that.

It's scary getting locked out of the boards...

Again on my end, is it unfair to ask players to buy me a module they wish to play? I have limited budget afterall…

Just say you don't have it. If they really want to play a given module, they'll have to supply it, or wait until you get it.

Game tonight was a mixed bag. The Good: they PCs did good and reached level 5. The Bad: My hydra really dropped the ball. 5 attacks per round for 4 rounds and only hit twice. Ugh. And the Mixed: The player whose Rogue died last week has said she is taking a break from the group for an indeterminate amount of time, and may never come back because of what one of the other players said.

Reason:
When her character died, he asked what she was going to make. She said another rogue. (After this point, I was talking to a third player so I didn't hear what was actually said and can only report what she said he said.) He then, according to her, said that she shouldn't play a rogue because she isn't good at it, and that whatever she played she needed to contribute more, rather than running away and cowering in the back like she has been doing for the last three campaigns. I don't doubt that he said any of that, because we've all told her those exact things on several occasions in the past, but he must have been more aggressive or something, and she said she felt like he was attacking her.

I consider this Mixed news because while it sucks that she feels that way, since she was barely participating we aren't losing much in game terms.

I bought my Hell's Rebels GM the sixth book when they said they were going to run it after it came down in a Humble Bundle.

Way I see it, if someone's going to go through the effort of those first *five* books, why the heck stop there?

I buy my APs as a complete set too. But that's for PFS not APs. I ask my group, what ye want me run after drawing the line at several APs.

Like no Kingmaker(accountancy class in disguise)
No Curse of Crimson Throne, Hells Vengeance, Hells Rebels(I'm not good at running intrigue, too many NPCs I can't keep my head straight).
No Way of the Wicked (I don't want to run for evil characters)
No Skulls and shackles (I can't stand pirates)
No iron gods (I can't stand technology in pathfinder)

Otherwise just choose an AP, and I'll run it!

Gran: I’d say sad to see someone leave pathfinder – but it isn’t exactly for everyone. Perhaps she needs a more free form system, and pathfinder has a lot of choices – but with those choices come a lot of sub-par choices, which people who do not have enough system mastery may fall for.

Rogues especially…eh are one crappy class, but that’s just going to derail to a whole rogue rant. Why do you give someone in front poor will save and fort saves, the most important saves, and terrible ac, because they’re stuck with light armor only? It doesn’t bode well for long term survival.

And of course if a group was saying I was doing a bad job, like the people I used to play with – they’d just optimize for DPS. Now optimizing for DPS just isn’t my kind of thing. And the GM kept saving against all my spells (I wonder if he was fudging, honestly). If you want to run DPS arms races with the GM…Sorry, not my type of pathfinder game. I’m out.

I find entertainment in playing tricks on monsters and not really so much of murderhoboing them outright.

The rogue is a victim of genre conventions that aren't supported by the rules.

Still need to roll that ninja with one level in samurai for heavy armor.

When I say she isn't good at playing a rogue, what I really mean (and have tried to explain to her) is that she isn't willing to engage the enemy. She would always run away, not to get to a flank, but to hide in the back of the party to "make sure nothing sneaks up on us". Now, ranged rogues are possible, but she wasn't trying to do that either. She wasn't willing to put her character at risk unless there was no other option. She would also talk about how great she was at finding traps (as a rogue should be), but then refuse to take point in order to try and find any. If you asked her to go first, she would say "Oh no! There might be monsters down there!", and then when the fighter or whoever was on point triggered a trap she would talk about how she would have seen the trap and not set it off.

After three years of playing essentially the same character, she hadn't learned how any of her abilities worked, refused to significantly help the party, and basically just soaked up treasure and XP.

Frankly, we don't think she really wanted to play anything. We think she just wanted to get out of the house for a while each week (she's in her 60s and has never moved out of her Mom's house), which is fine, but she was dragging down the rest of us.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Oh, and since you mentioned optimization, there's only one guy in the group who really does that, and even he doesn't do it as much in this game as he does in others. The rest of us have been about making interesting characters and having fun with them. Except for her. She just wanted to stay away from anything dangerous and then claim she was trying to help us.

I am going to lose the bread baking contest so, so badly.

O well. I needed a new buckler anyway, and what I have made will serve admirably in that role.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Is there a bread baking contest going on here that I didn't notice? Because I'll probably be making another loaf of sourdough in the next day or two, and would like a chance to enter.

That was an interesting match. I was just derping around with a simple little murloc shaman, and was facing a priest. Turn 7, he has 8 cards in hand and I have 2 Coldlight Oracles. So I figure, "What the hell, I'll make him mill 3 cards" and play them both. The first brings him to 10 cards. The second makes him mill Prophet Velen and Raza the Chained. Then I pass the turn and he mills Shadowreaper Anduin and quits immediately. Yay! I won!!

Lol gran.

Actually Feather domain Clerics are better at finding traps if they take seeker trait for perception to class skills. They get half class level bonus to perception and have a positive wisdom score to boot... Unlike rogues.

The Exchange

Also if you tell me you need a rogue, I'll play an urban ranger, trap breaker vivisectionist, investigator, seeker sorcerer/seeker oracle and generally anything but a rogue.

They can do the stuff that rogues are supposed to do, and are better at it, anyway.

I find that whenever you play a bard that only gives performance bonuses to themselves, the group throws tomatoes at you.

I feel kinda guilty playing any kind of selfish bard.

Think of this as archaeologist rogue with spells not a bard, to avoid expectations.

I like Rogues.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The "rogue" in our Iron Gods party is my Zealot, courtesy one of the campaign traits giving Disable Device as a class skill.

Zeal and maneuvers make for about as good party support as a bard and without the headaches associated with rogues re: sneak attack, poor BAB, lack of useful class abilities, etc.

perspectives like this give the game a bad name. Not everyone plays the same way, and as this game relies on dice, runs of bad luck are going to be atrributed to the wrong things. It is definitely time to have a conversation with all involved.

well this changes things...

Her attitude might have made sense in second ed, but not pathfinder.

I like rogues, but it worries me that paizo addressed the problems people had with the class by making new ones.
