Also, currently outside, having a funky picnic breakfast. It's really nice!

Huh? Suddenly I feel the urge to go read me some Kushielverse books... ;)

My wife is a huge fan, as is a good friend of mine. I only read a fair amount of the first book.

Firefly was a great show. It should be possible to ignore haterade on a case by case basis. Heck most of Buffy was really good too. Then they did the last few seasons. If you hate on Whedon for anything it should be for Aliens 4. I don't care that the "fanbois" say it wasn't his fault. His name was on the script.

It's too late for that. I have already envisioned an action video game/side scrolling beat em up where I take on the bulk of
the people I hate and their minions. The whedon stage has browncoats(common), slayers(uncommon), fanbois (more than powerful versions of the previous), a rabid dollhouse fan(mini boss), and finally whedon himself, who attacks by throwing recycled plots from anime that was popular a year and a half ago and defends himself by hiding behind a living wall of fans.Kajehase |
My wife is a huge fan, as is a good friend of mine. I only read a fair amount of the first book.
From a meta-perspective, I think my favourite thing about those books is that where if they'd been a movie-series, by the ninth instalment they'd have devolved into incoherent torture-porn, they instead actually tone down those elements more and more with each book (except for some quite intentional nightmare-fuel in book three) - worshipers of Ahriman are bad, m'kay? - so that by book nine I think there's at most two detailed sex scenes, and those are both completely vanilla.

I had no problem with the erotica, it was the slow plodding "intrigue" that got to me.. I don't buy into the torture porn accusations that get me tossed around so readily nowadays, but I think it would be make a boring movie series but for the costumes.

Heh. I suspect it'd make a great TV-series, though. (And there's some awesome action scenes by the end of the book. Talking tsunami-sized waves, people leaping from battlements into a horde of smelly barbarians, some fairly large battles, that sort of thing.)
And what I meant with the torture porn comment was that in most movie series (and a lot of book series, too, to be honest) that become hits, more or less in part because of some rarely used concept (like pirates based on Keith Richards fighting other, undead pirates) they tend to exaggerate whatever that was until it takes over the plots completely. And while I didn't mind the erotica parts (definitely not my cup of tea in real life, though), it was nice to see that Carey didn't turn into a one-trick pony.

Ummm Derek why do you think I unload my extras on the financially strapped
1. I like to think I'm a good guy
2. Keeps me from being a hoarder
3. Multiple cases ensures I get all I need, and the extras don't go to waste.O yeah if you didn't get my giveaway for this minis set don't worry I'll get to you next set just let me know that your interested, I know I offered it to most of the FAWTLies all ready but this way next time no one gets left out.
No worries, man! Since I got the job, I figure your generosity is better used on others. :-) Hopefully my wife won't kill me if I roll that $500 into birthday or something. After that, I don't know if I'm going to be able to justify spending this kind of money on minis on an ongoing basis.

Happy Easter, everyone, whether you are celebrating Jesus resurrection, or the bunny bringing you candy.
Also why is everything always closed with no notification? I went to Target today and there was no mention of the holiday.

My brother (who lives here), my sister (who lives here), and I took my Mother, who is visiting in town, to the botanical gardens today. Not so much blooming this early, but it was pleasant and we took lots of pictures.
My Mother turned 80 this past October and with some "problems" that my sister she lives with in Kentucky had been noticing, we got her checked out. Officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but not real bad...yet.
:(
We took lots of pictures so that later she could see them to know what happened. My sister (in Kentucky) had bought her a calendar notebook so that we can keep track of what she does on each day and write it down so that she can look later and see.
:( :(
Of course, she is on medication but sometimes forgets it. My sister she lives with will fix and portion out several days of her medication and put it in containers but that my MOM will look at it, get confused, and change it.
:( :( :(
My brothers and I were fine when Dad died but have always said we would not know what to when Mom would finally be gone. We figured we would be lucky if it didn't break us. But, it is a clock that we are seeing tick away right now.
:(
Anyway, I am happy to be spending these couple weeks with her and am ecstatic that we got to watch UK win a national championship together on Monday night. Especially since I don't know if she will be mentally around next year much less the next time that UK is in the finals.
But, every time I think about it I just want to destroy something or someone. SMDH SMDH SMDH
(If you are reading, Freehold DM, please note that you are an exception to the following...) There are a couple threads in OTD right now where many of the posters on both sides leave me wishing to put bullets in their heads. That is why I am refraining from posting. Getting a suspension is something I wouldn't care about, but I think I would make statements that would get me in trouble with the law.
SMDH SMDH SMDH
Its only going to get worse (my Mother's condition, not the OTD. I don't give a da-mn about dumb as-ses arguing in this subforum). For now, I will be happy that she is still mostly here and that I get to spend some time with her.
Sorry for ranting.

I'm watching the Ranma 1/2 OVA collection. Such great music...
I just read the manga in raw Japanese when I need a Ranma fix.
Actually...I've never seen the anime. I just picked it up because I liked Inuyasha, and it's also by Takahashi Rumiko. :D and each manga was like 90 yen at the used bookstores. Hehe.

Naw, I just got home, went out after work and had a few drinks and played a few games of darts/pool. :)
Apparently Hubby did not like the candy the Easter Bunny brought, so he ran to WallyWorld to grab a few extras. I'm trying to stay up and wait on him.

There's one of those in Ft Worth between the Stockyards and Billy Bob's. I LOVE COOPER'S!
Since you will only be a couple hours away now, I expect you will be making the trip to OwlCon next year.
Note how that wasn't a question.
