According to the DM, all of the combat encounters have been really long throughout the entire campaign. Since he's never played 3.5 or Pathfinder, he asked me if 3.5 or PF combats run that long, and was amazed when I told him no.
Was it bad combat management or just the nature of the rules do you think? Last time we had a battle go that long in PF it was 5 PCs, 2 cohorts, about 100 followers and assorted allied NPCs vs an enemy army, 3 dragons, various devils and some high level wizards ... and I think we still got done in under 4 hours.

I don't think I've had a tabletop 4e combat go over 2 hours, and most are an hour and a half. (Still too long, IMO.) I'm curious what possibly could have gone on for 4 hours.

Morning, all. What did I miss?

Silver Crusade

Yesterday we went to Palm Springs. Had some lunch, went into the Joshua Tree National Park in the afternoon, and went back to Palm Springs when the desert shut the lights off and turned cold. I think it was nice to get away from the city be someplace spacious and quiet.

Well, John and Steve investigated the recent money problems at the company, only to discover it was all part of some nefarious plan cooked up by the evil clone of their ex-boss, Bill. Meanwhile, Veronica found herself in an embarassing situation when her long-skirt got caught in the mall escalator. And, across town, Harry's planned family vacation to the Ozark's had to be put on hiatus when....No, wait! That's my soap opera.

Sounds like it's time to develop a new personality. Trust me, it's the ultimate cure for boredom. ;P

Okay, honestly, I don't understand the concept. Really. Boredom is a sign of a lack of imagination. Also people who are bored are usually given extra chores. Consequently the last time I was bored was when I was five. :)

Sometimes boredom is the act of avoiding being caught doing something outside of what other people expect of you. I'm never bored when I'm not watched ;)

I hope that didn't come out sounding dirty...

Hah. You have not yet mastered the art of working on evil plans then. The beauty of it being that no one can actually see you plotting. ;P

Urizen will be along shortly to make sure that it did. ;)

Noooo, boredom is currently a product of going over moving stuff online until my eyes bleed whilst the little one watches Dinosaur Train and Busytown when I'd rather be at work making some money.

The Exchange

Oh well, I'm going to take a break and go play Heroes vs Dr. Doom with the Bug.

That's not boredom. That's your brain trying desperately to shut down before your last shred of sanity slips away. Totally different. :)

You are young in the ways of FAWTL, young Ragnarok Aeon. You must learn to embrace the double entendre. Embrace it hard.

and it sucks even more when you have to copy-paste single textpieces from your carefully worded resume into some stupid, user-un-friendly, complicated Online Application Database

The best part is when it all disappears for some damn reason, and you have to start over.

I think most places employ elementary school children to design their online job applications.

What gives, anyway? Read the freaking resume. It's all on there.

I should have known better, but you really can't ask a question about a "hot topic" without people assuming that you're telling them how to play their game.

Seemed like the nature of the rules to me. Everyone in the group was staying reasonably focused, with little table talk other than rules questions. I think part of the problem was that there was a lot of time being spent figuring out which of the PCs' powers were usable in particular scenarios, and the rules of movement were somewhat unclear.

Pretty simple scenario: a shaman, a fighter, a ranger, a rogue/monk, a sorcerer, and a cleric (all level 10) versus three 9th-level lizardfolk barbarians and two CR 10 homebrew monsters. Environment was a 20x20 square cave with a 20x4 square 15-foot-deep trench through the center, spanned by a 4x4 square bridge.
