I believe we should switch from a base 10 system to a base 12 system.
This would create many improvement in our daily lives!!!
What numbers are easiest to do arithmatic with in your head?
2, 5, 10.
You know why?
Because we use a base 10 system, and only factors of 10 are 2 and 5.
If we switched to a base 12 system, arithmatic would become simpler, with oft repeated simple mathematical patterns, simply because there are so many more prime factors of 12. The factors of 12 are 2, 3, 4 and 6! There'd only be two additional digits to remember.
Let's say that 10 is α and 11 is ß. The digits, in order would be:

I thought Freehold was really getting into this mathematical code and was about to decipher it in base 12 to pick up his message.

I'm a nerd, indulging a pet peeve. I just...like numbers.
I also programmed tetris into my graphing calculator during math class in high school. We only had one variable available per letter of the alphabet, so for my flags I used a single variable and the value of the variable in base 2 gave me my flags. for example, let's say I needed 5 flags:
IsGamePaused
IsSoundOn
IsPieceFalling
IsPieceAgainstLeftWall
IsPieceAgainstRightWall
These can all either be "on" (1) or "off" (0).
Let's say the game isn't paused, the sound is on, the piece is falling, and it's unable to move farther left. That would be
IsGamePaused = 0
IsSoundOn = 1
IsPieceFalling = 1
IsPieceAgainstLeftWall = 1
IsPieceAgainstRightWall = 0
to represent that as one number, I"ll put those number in order:
01110
In base 10 this is: 0x2^4 + 1x2^3 + 1x2^2 + 1x2^1 + 0x2^0 =
0x16+2x8+1x4+1x2+0x1 = 14
If the game is paused, the piece is resting on pieces below it against the left wall and the sound is off, we get
10010 = 1x16 + 1x2 = 18
Each set of values is unique.
It was very slow, unfortunately. That was a lot of extra calculation due to lack of memory. :)

For example: pipe wall thickness.
Pipe is sold in various schedules, with set wall thicknesses. Depending on the application, that wall thickness can degrade over time due to external corrosion, or internal corrosion/erosion.
We have formulas for calcuting the minimum allowable wall thickness based on pressure, temperature, material, etc. These wall thicknesses can sometimes be measured in small fractions like 0.033, and once again depending on the medium, the accuracy of those numbers can be very important.
It doesn't do wonders for mine, that's for sure. Why do you think I drink?

I won a similar contest in highschool, but purely by accident. They gave us 200 questions to answer and scantron sheets to fill out. I didn't feel like answering them, so just did a wave pattern on the sheets. Who'd a thunk it....

I've ran into repeating decimal vs. fractions in finance, too. When calculating percentages, the results can rarely be represented as a decimal without rounding. I had to rewrite a spreadsheet to rely on fractions because the one we were using that relied on decimals was rounding off as much as $20 at a time.
$3,461.87 / $104,389.71 =/= 3.32% no matter how badly Excel wants to say that is the case. Better to have it use 3461.87/104389.71 everywhere it counts and save the rounding to the end.
