Mmm. Bacon.

And, apparently, I do it Nekkid.

Damn, zombie. I know some people sleep in the nude, but it's not a good plan when you are just dozing at your desk.

Blergh! Boo for storebought pesto. Way too much basilica.

Is that at all like "basil"?

...I am making pulled pork bbq for a potluck for work this week. I've got the jalapenos, onions, garlic, chipotle chili powder...

Need pork.

mmmmm.

*facepalm* English Jesper, English!

Ahem. It's exactly like basil. :)

Not that there's anything wrong with basil, but when I have pesto I prefer a bit more pine-nut than this mix had.

Awesome! So did English get "basil" from more Germanic languages, or did we all steal it from Latin? :D

I don't know why, but etymology (the study of words and language) has always been interesting to me. It's one reason my knowledge of Japanese is kinda annoying - they're not closely related to ANY other language. The only language that bears any resemblance to Japanese is Korean, and they're third cousins four times removed...

Silver Crusade

It is basilico in Italian. Since it is a Mediterranean herb, I suspect it was named in Latin or its later derivatives and then imported into English and Northern European languages.

Yay! Random curiosity satisfied! :D

Etymology is FUN

I think it's basilicum in Latin.

Sometimes, it is fun listening to complete cranks on the internet pretending that they understand something better than people who study it professionally. But usually, it's not.

Family Movie recomendation.... If you like Wallace and Gromit you will love The Pirates! Band of Misfits.

Pirate Captain: "Behind every captain, there's a crew. Sure, some of you are as ugly as a sea cucumber, some of you are closer to being a chair or coat rack than a pirate, and some of you are just fish I've just dressed up in a hat..."

Trailers.

Yeah, I was liking the cut of its jib.

Any idea why they changed "An Adventure with Scientists" to "Band of Misfits" in America?

I mean, it's got freakin' Charles Darwin in it, how awesome is that?

But...but....my theory on the convergent evolution of marmosets and chihuahuas is perfectly valid!

Morning, all. What did I miss?
Well, Jess' professed despair at missing the chance to inflict fatal wounds on her friends prompted several co-workers to become concerned for their safety. Meanwhile, during a booze-fueld rampage, Derek lost control and severely beat a Confucius impersonator performing a one-man show in the park. And, across town, an attempt to start a cult dedicated to a local douchebag backfired when.....No, wait! That's my soap opera!

Best. Soap. Ever!

Dude, that sucks. :( Two jobs ago they closed our office, and wouldn't let us out of the conference room to collect our things without an escort.

SUCKS.

But, you have two weeks where you don't have to work as you look for something else. I hope you find something awesome really quickly!

Sympathies. I hope they gave you some sort of severance, and I hope you find something quickly.

That's what happens to me when I read comments on YouTube. My all time most cringeworthy was a comment on a performance of the "Caccini Ave Maria". A commenter said the singer's style was too modern - nothing like what would have been done in Caccini's time in the early 1700s.

Never mind that Caccini didn't write that piece and it actually dates from the 1970s... I just chuckle and move on.

Silver Crusade

Sorry to hear the news, Mothman. That really blows.

Ugh. That is truly suck worthy news Mothy. As someone who spent a large chunk of time wrestling with unemployment I know that initial shock feeling. It sucks bad .I sincerely hope you find a replacement job in record time.

Sorry Mothman. :(

Sorry to hear Mothman. That's some major unclassiness from your employer.

Feel your pain. Had to memorize it for extra credit last week on my first mid-term. Just need to remember the first quadrant and then repeat for II, III, and IV but keeping mindful where the + and - falls according to the X & Y axes.

That part I got. It's the radians that keep tripping me up. :/

....stupid fractions.....

I had to perform a scatter plot this evening and couldn't figure out why my sinusoidal wave wasn't lining up.

Until I figured out I was calculating in degrees and not in radians.

Damn radians.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. It is a pathway to many abilities some may consider to be unnatural. It's not the TMI you're looking for.

That blows completely. Sounds like there's a version of 'at will' employment on the other side of the globe, too.

I hope your luck runs much better than mine to locate something soon. Time is ripe when it's a recent event.

After two days of gloom and rain, today we've got sunshine! Still a bit cold, though.

The boy and I each had a great night's sleep, but not mommy. Charlie cried out at some point early this morning and woke us both up, but he and I went right back to sleep. My poor missus wasn't so lucky.....

And since I'm feeling much better today, I think I'll reward myself with morning Dr. Pepper.

The wife and I are considering flying to New Orleans in June for my new niece Maggie's christening. Maybe. Not sure yet. If we do, I wanted to surprise my parents and not tell them. Unfortunately, my wife said something to her mother, who DID say something to my mother.

Grrrr.....

Scarab Sages

All right folks. Almost at work, so here endeth the miniblitz once again. I hope all you FAWTLY Folk have a wonderful day.

So, my dream last night:

I was me, but not me. I was a "Believer". What I believed in? No clue. Why I believed it? Couldn't tell you. All I know was I was a Believer, and the other people in my crew knew it as well.

I think I may have had some kind of psychic abilities as well, because when we were riding in this taxicab, I knew stuff about the driver just by looking at her. Maybe not mind reading, but more like empathy - kind of like Forest Whitaker's character in Species.

Anyway, my crew and I were in Mexico, because we had acquired a device that looked kind of like a flip-open cell phone. This device could read people. You held it up to them, and it could tell you all kinds of info about them. My crew had acquired this device for some folks and were in Mexico to offload it. We got to the club where our contacts (some Yakuza) were and started the meeting. They wanted proof the device we had was the real thing, so we handed it to them for testing. The dude looks around the room with it and starts pointing at me. He says that he can't read me, of all the people in the room. And I know it's because I'm a Believer.

Right about then is when I woke up.

Like I said, weird. But now I can't get it out of my head. When I woke up, I almost immediately started to think about how I would translate a "Believer" into a PF template that could be applied to PCs, NPCs, and intelligent monsters.

That's why I try to keep my comments on music dumb if I possibly can.
Spoiler:
James Richman came and played some of the Goldberg Variations for us on his harpsichord and gave a nice little talk about them and Bach Sunday afternoon. I told him things like what a treat is was and how I loved to hear it live and on a harpsichord instead of recorded and on a piano. I also said, Wow, how many notes you played in one sitting! M don't know beans about it and isn't going to get caught pretending by a guy who is writing a book on the subject.
