Liberty's Edge

Then I got out aluminum foil.

Liberty's Edge

Then I put the aluminum foil on the cookie sheet.

Liberty's Edge

Then I got out a cutting board.

Liberty's Edge

Then I got out the cheese grater.

Liberty's Edge

Then I looked for cheese.

Liberty's Edge

But I couldn't find any in the usual places.

Liberty's Edge

So I was like "audible sigh. I'm not really that hungry anyway."

Liberty's Edge

But then THEY were all like "it's right here."

Liberty's Edge

So then I got it out.

Liberty's Edge

It was sharp.

Liberty's Edge

Because sharp cheese is cheaper than extra sharp right now.

Liberty's Edge

I can't do this anymore. I tried while listening to this, but I can't. Too heavy.

Liberty's Edge

You should really listen to it, if you can. Disclaimer, though: Terry Gross said it's not suitable for young children or even some adults.

Liberty's Edge

This really better be unintentional:
Shade it black,
Deathandafter in Iraq (pronounce it American-like).

Liberty's Edge

That was {in-/de-tensifier}-ly f%@!ing heavy.

Liberty's Edge

There is a member station for NPR called kxcd. Coincidence?

It's on my list, but I've yet to read it.

I kind of liked A Rose for Ecclesiastes myself.

Liberty's Edge

Anyway, as usual, Terry interjects her politics (this time with loaded questions).

The Exchange

also WTF are they doing interlocking both Sci Fi and Fantasy. The two are not the same and I will have much different lists for the two!!

So that Star Wars fans don't get called out on non-scifi. (Insert some other space fantasy in there instead of "Star Wars" if you want.)

Canticle is an awesome book.

The Exchange

well it is for books, not movies. Although the Admiral Thrawn books are not bad.

The Chronicles of Prydain
Dale Rippke chronology of the Conan the barbarian stories.
Elric of Melniboné Stories
Swords and Deviltry and the rest of the lankmahr stories
Barsoom Martian series by Edgar Rice Burroughs

I left out

The Lord of the Rings
The Chronicles of Narnia

Simply because I felt a lot of votes will go their way anyway.

Also left out
earthsea
Dragon riders of Pern
Chronicles of Amber
Belgariad
The Riftwar Saga
Dune

I have as of yet to read it but have yet to find someone who has read it, that has said they disliked it.

Canticle runs 4.5 stars on Amazon with roughly 290 reviews. That's higher than most books I like.

I've used it for teaching, my father used it in a poli sci course... it's just a really interesting apocalyptic book with a lot of depth and a great look at religion and secularism.

Heck I cant even begin on Sci Fi yet..

Do we go with Cyberpunk?

Do androids dream of electric sheep
Neuromancer
Snow Crash
Mirrorshades
I, Robot

strait Sci Fi?
A Rose for Ecclesiastes
The Man in the High Castle

Old classics
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court.
just about anything by H. G. Wells's or Jules Verne.
Frankenstein.

AHHHH

Do Androids...?

PKD. While I find his stuff absolutely brilliant in ideation & philosophy, his style has a really wonky side to it sometimes.

<Sprays some Ubik.>

There's a book.

Ubik.

I think that'd be on my top ten.

That is also one of my personal top ten SciFi, and Top post-nuclear war subgenre. I also liked the follow up: >St. Leibowitz and the Wild Horse Woman<

CJ, this book would be right up your alley. It is suffused with Catholic imagery and philosophical debates amist the unfolding story of America emerging from a nuclear dark age only to tread the same path again. The protaginists that tie the chapters together are an order of monks dedicated to saving old knowledge.

Don't forget The Diamond Age for Post-Cyberpunk.

Well, they talked about Star Wars books in rules. Some people might put them on there.

American Gods
Slachthof Funf
Thud!
Inda
Hitchhiker's Guide series (or just anthology)

Left out Stephen R. Donaldson, Orson Scott Card, more Gaiman and Pratchett . . .

Liberty's Edge

But then I can't believe I forgot Lloyd Alexander. Probably because for some reason I don't have big, obvious books of his in obvious places on my shelves.

O_o!!!!!!!!!!

What have you been doing while laid up? There is nothing better you can do while prone than reading Canticle. Nothing. At all.

EDIT: Don't read any reviews or Cliff's Notes, either. Just read the book and enjoy. No spoilers. Eeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Oh, I've read a TON. I'll pick up a copy of Canticle when it shows up on the dollar clearance shelf.

*dies*

I'd send you my copy, but it's one of my most precious possessions. You might consider coughing up as much as a buck-fifty for it, you know. :P

EDIT: Canticle is right up your alley in so many ways. I'm dying to know your opinion of it.

Yes! Read Canticle! Also, do not watch the Babylon 5 episode featuring JMS's love poem to the book, written in iambic pendumbiter.

Didn't/don't/haven't watch/watched.

You know who I hate on the radio? Rick Weisman (assuming that's how it's spelled).

Whereas I am one of those people who have trouble keeping Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror separate all the time.

EDIT: Which is kind of weird, since I do NOT like science and high technology in my game.

How did I miss that Master Leafy, Dr Double Honors, has never. read. Canticle. O.o That is like ... YOUR book. Gods man! The Christian symbology in the book! It even has the Wandering Jew in it! You must read it.

Liberty's Edge

Canticle sounds like Stephen R. Lawhead?

Liberty's Edge

I mean, vaguely like something from him. Not that he's written it.

OK!!! To all my FAWTLY brethren who have attended a PaizoCon:

I am making plans (i.e. saving up cash) to attend next year. So I have some questions for those who have been there/done that (or Paizo employees), so to speak....

1. Starts on a Thursday, correct?
2. Has it been the same hotel the last two years? If so, which one?
3. What is the cost of the tickets for the Con?
4. I've heard the banquet is separate, so how much for those tickets as well?
5. When do these tickets go on sale?
6. When will the dates for the next one be announced?
7. What is your name?
8. What is your quest?
9. What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Scarab Sages

Zombie had steak and tater tots, with a nice Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale.

All this talk about books has sparked my interest. I haven't read one since last year's recovery, and that was a painful struggle. Bet I've missed a lot in a year.

Must look up the Canticle.
