Hope everyone's weekend is going well! Took kids to Kids festival today. Had a great time, kids rode a camel.... a freaking camel! :P
Work now, kinda slow, but working with someone so should be good. :D

Nekkid Swiss German you mean?! :P

Not at all. I didn't know Nicole Kidman was an Aussie for years, so well did she have me fooled. Hugh Jackman also does a flawless job of it.

There are some things that are too horrible to contemplate - this is one of them.

Scarab Sages

I feel....off. I think I know what will make me feel less so. Unfortunately, I am currently in a position where what I need is well-nigh impossible to obtain without a serious cash output and some risk.

Scarab Sages

Some times, life just sucks ass.

Scarab Sages

Could it be that, as I approach the ripe age of 40, I am finally having some sort of mid-life crisis?

Scarab Sages

5 people marked this as a favorite.

Or maybe it's just those dreams of sunken R'lyeh I've been having.

Scarab Sages

sigh

Still got about a week to go.

Scarab Sages

As much as I love being out of the office, there are certain aspects of this particular job that are driving me down the not-so-lonely highway of insanity. I only hope that no other inspection is ever like this one.

Scarab Sages

"We all mad here."

Scarab Sages

Mrgh....

Scarab Sages

Only 3 and a half hours to go. Then we get to repeat tomorrow.

Then Monday, it's still 12 hours, but a different start and end time. Still sucks, though.

Scarab Sages

SHIT! F%#$! GODDAMNIT! SONOFAB+#~+!!! MOTHERF!##ER!!!

I'm a little teapot,
Short and stout,
Here is my handle,
Here is my spout,
When I get all steamed up,
Hear me shout,
Tip me over and pour me out!

Scarab Sages

MMmmmmmm.......Bra

Scarab Sages

Oops...forgot to finish.

Scarab Sages

All right, that's enough for now. Later folks.

40 hasn't been so bad for me. Live it up, bro!

I really need a f&~#ing beer.

Or three.

Scarab Sages

But, my contractors tell me we may actually finish the space we are working in tonight. That makes me happy. It means we are moving along ahead of schedule, despite some delays.

It also means that, once we are out of the space, there will be one less.....distraction.

I don't like where that ball is going. But if he's a politician or bureaucrat...

He's the head of FIFA - and a corrupt bastard of a bureaucrat.

Just saw the movie trailer to BATTLESHIP on the USA network.

AWESOME!

It looks better than the Avengers.

I saw both trailers before John Carter today.

Man, they both look flippin sweet.

Scarab Sages

Well, this blows. I get back to the hotel, and barely have time to get even half way through my beer when the power goes out because of the damn rain. Now normally it wouldn't bother me, since I was gonna go to sleep anyway. But no power means no AC, which could make for an uncomfortable night.

Shit on a stick!

Scarab Sages

Meh! Maybe I'll just go wander the darkened halls.

I worked my first day of actual labor, physical labor that is, in a dog's age. I am worn out.

Liberty's Edge

Those sort of distractions lead to trouble Zombie. Stay focused! Good luck with the rest of your inspection.

What sort of work? Rest well anyway CJ.

dialects here in germany are slowly fading away, too.

the local tv stations use one form of a dialect 50 years now and slowly the hundreds of variants in that state start to sound more like this, maybe people beeing more mobil does it's part, too.

We have lost a lot of unique and great words and phrases through that :-(

but still, there are hundreds of dialects, some completly incomprehensibly even for us germans.
Kölsch, spoken in Cologne, i don't understand a word of.

What about Swiss German?

it is ok to understand for me, as a matter of fact, it is the dialect I am best at imitating

fine sunny sunday morning here.

we will most likly go to a easter-market somewhere, it's like a christmas market, only with easter bunnies instead of santa claus :-)

I have met Patrick Curtin irl and I didn't even notice an accent. Compared to my co-workers from Southie and Chalestown, he speaks the Queen's English.

I think it is moderate. I also found that the more people mocked my accent when I lived elsewhere, the more prounounced I would make it. It's the contrarian in me.

Do American accents sound weird to you? Not really, we get a lot of American TV-shows and movies (including independent ones) on TV in Sweden, and these days our news cover the American presidential elections almost as closely as our own. (Plus, SAAB, which used to be the main employer in my town, used to be owned by GM - so I've even had American neighbours for a bit. That said, I remember someone with a really broad "southern" accent being interviewed once and being surprised someone actually spoke like that in the real world.

Edit: Strangely enough (or not so strangely when you sit down and think about it), the version of English that sounds most natural to me, are the dialects spoken in Scotland and northern England.

Are some of them hard to understand? Not that I've noticed so far - although I recall a feature Swedish Radio did about the Fugees, back in the day, where one of their roadies spoke in some half-creole, half-cajun accent - that was bleeding impossible to understand.

Have you heard many other than the two or three used in Hollywood movies? Not that many more, although listening to podcasts has certainly widened the range. I'm still better at differentiating British accents, though - a side effect of growing up in a home where the two main forms of cultural discussions were about soccer and pop-music. ;)

Well you will be happy to know, I have a midwestern accent and only sometimes slip into the cajun one if I get real upset or occasionally it just randomly pops out.

I have, according to my first g/f, a "midwestern flat". Other people who meet me think I "talk white" or "sound educated", which earns a sneer from me. The old one from back in the AOL days was "WOW, you sound/look nothing like what I expected!!!" which earned a grimace.

I loved living in Texas, where folks would come up to me and say, "Yew shure dew tawk funneh."

I love listening to my friend from SC talk. I love her accent.

Did you give them a lance and tell them to charge at other kids? Cuz that's what I would have done.

So, I did end up wandering the darkened hallways of the hotel while the power was out last night. I had a flashlight, but tried wandering without it on as much as possible. That's how I ended up scaring the crap out of some young people who came around he corner using their cellphones to light their way.

Sometimes, being me is so f%%+ing awesome.

Got a lot done at work last night. At this rate, we'll likely finish by Tuesday or Wednesday! Then I can go home to the wife and boy!

Scarab Sages

Heading back to the base for about noon today for another 12 hour shift. Ugh.

There's a cream for that.

Saw The Hunger Games yesterday. Of course some things different from the book, and some explanations skipped, a bit rushed, but decent overall.

Maybe someone should make a spin off, The Hungry Gamers

Maybe I'll give it a look. I'll do my best to avoid getting all critical due to my love for Battle Royale.

Back story points, missed in the movie-

Spoiler:
In your bloodlust, be sure not to overlook the corruption, decadence, manipulation, and ruthlessness of the 'benevolent overlords'. Since they softsell this in the movie, know that there is a strong spirit of rebellion shared amongst the poorer districts, even though they have to compete for resources doled out by the Capitol. Hence, weapons, even to feed yourself, are outlawed. The further away from the Capitol (1 thru 12) the worse they get shafted. Each district produces a type of resource, and communication btwn the districts is strictly limited. The Game can't control that as much.

Wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts if you see it. The book was the 1st one I've read since my recovery.

Scarab Sages

Shit f*## on a pogo stick! I have to add a bit to the workload. My contractors will probably be pissed, but I don't pay them to be happy.

Scarab Sages

Arrrrrgggghhhhhh!!!!

But......mrgh.
