I'm told that when I was very little a gallon of gas and a pack of smokes were both about a quarter.

How did I get this old?

I dunno. How did I? When did the 20th Century become a historical item? When did cute women get born in the Nineties?

*sigh*

LOL!

If I had known I would live this long, hell, I might have taken better care of myself.

Oh yah. I agree there. No politician has a bad word to say about raising taxes on beer, wine and cigs. Especially here.

Either that's sarcasm or we don't hang out with the same Mass-holes. My money's on the former.

Sorry, unclear when typed, now fixed. The common Mass-hole hates new taxes, yet continues to vote the same d-bags right back into office. I never got it. It would be one thing if they actually used the sin taxes to fund treatment facilities and such, but all that money is soooo ...tempting. And there's just a whole bunch of shovel-ready sh!t left to do! Hey maybe we can have new markers for every .01 of a mile along the highway! Naah, that's stimulus-level funding. We'll have to settle for the Speaker Sal DiMasi memorial prison wing....

Ah that's the Patrick I know and love. It is nice to hear there are still some of us still around. I have me problems with Massachusetts but there are few other places I would rather live in the US.

Now, that we presumably have CC and Lord Gruumash. in the same room: TotalCon! TotalCon! TotalCon!

Also, for the few of you who enjoy my tales from a life filled with debauchery, I left what I hope is a doozy on the Male Privelege thread.

When I was younger, cigs were 6 bucks a pack. I thought it insanity, even then.

I'm ticked off about ~$35 a carton here for generics, but that's not why I'm quitting.

The Exchange

When I first started smoking I could take $5 to the store, get a pack of Marlboro Reds, 3 gallons in gas, and still go to the "Penny Back" movies.

Especially when talking to Solnes, she's only 7 years younger than me, but when I will talk about things from my childhood she gives me this funny look like I'm from another planet. :/

Here's one for you guys.

My love of burgers is pretty well known, I will explain where it comes from.

Spoiler:
When I was born my family, Dad, Mom, all 6 of us boys, lived in a 2BR single wide with no running water and no electricity. We had potatoes and onions to eat, every meal, there was a pump well in the back yard, a goat for milk, and kerosene for lamps, cooking, and the heater.

We had a truck, but it was only used for emergencies, Dad would drape his toolbelt over his shoulder and walk 1-3 hours to where his job site might be.

I was six when they finally saved enough money to buy a little house with room for our family. The week after we moved in we had a cookout on a new charcoal grill... Dad made cheeseburgers, I had no idea you could eat anything but potatoes and onions {And the occasional fish he caught), man was I wrong... been in love with the burger ever since April 17th, 1982. The first time I ever had one.

Yeah, I lived like that and I'm only 36.

Tell me about it. My missus is 6 years younger than me. Combine that with the fact my childhood was further influenced by 3 older brothers, and I talk about stuff that goes right over her all the time.

Yeah, I lived like that and I'm only 36.

Yet we all know folks who can't even do basic first aid let alone kill their own food. :)

Sadly, I have not killed my own food in a long time. First aid I seem to have to perform on myself on a near weekly basis.

Am I the only one with an older woman? Diane is about 10 years older than I am.

Ugh. For me to be tempted to spend money on cigarettes, they have to be something worth smoking.

Kids seem to provide lots of first aid practice too once they are mobile.

We had to ban Power Rangers when Power Ranger turned into a verb.

"Don't power Ranger your sister!"

"Don't Power Ranger off the top bunk!"

"DO NOT power Ranger the dogs!!!"

In the last days of my working at the gas station, Marlboros were up to around $10.50, and we had the cheapest cigarettes in town.

Sadly, I don't exercise much anymore. Which is a shame. Once we got the house, I didn't have a free gym to work out in anymore, but until a year or so ago I was still running in the park as much as possible. The trail I used to visit from my apartment also runs near our current house.

With the arrival of Charlie, my exercise time dropped to nil.

I also found my exercise time dropped to nil when the kid(s) arrived and we moved somewhere it was no longer really feasible for me to walk part of the way to work.

Now I try to go for at least a half hour walk or run every evening after the kids have gone to bed. It’s hard to find time, you just need to make it.

... of course I'm much better at keeping up with that in Summer than in Winter ...
