How does pheasant, Patridge, woodcock, dove and snipe taste like,Kjeldorn?
Wait...did you eat snipe?
I had no clue there was really a bird called snipe...

Mom told us there was a Hodag in the woods behind our house.
It turned out to be an incredibly cantankerous snapping turtle.
I'll never understand why parents make up fictional monsters to keep kids out of certain areas, it only has the opposite effect.
I spent sooooo much time as a kid walking through the woods on our land, TRYING to find a hodag lair.
It was useful; I got very good at identifying all sorts of tracks and scat (ages of deer measured by their hoofprints, wolf by scat composition, etc.) just so I would know what to rule out. I was certain that if I was patient enough, I would find one. So disappointed.
I found a badger den on our property looking for one. Mom made me solemnly vow I wouldn't go back, but that didn't work either. :-)

There were badgers all over the place near my parents' old house. It's all chalk around there, so there were gurt big holes in all the banks with loads of white stones spilling out everywhere where they laired.

I am only 26 and am suprised at how new the oldies are. Micheal Jackson does not seem oldies to me.

How do you remove the feathers since at their size they are mostly feathers? Sorry, city cat here.
All our chicken we see is already de-feathered.
The most butchering I've ever done is to clean and gut a fish and remove the innards of a chicken.
Well, plucking by hand mostly...

I am in love.
With a pen.
With this pen to be precise.
It has made me rediscover my love of writing by hand.
I have unusually sized hands and due to the way children in this country are taught how to write along with the american love of ball point pens (ugh), writing for me was a trial. My hand would always cramp up before long. I used to determine how much I loved a character by how long I would reach through the pain to keep writing them up. But this pen...
My god.
It is so smooth. So smooth. My hand literally glides across the page. My thoughts flow out of my head with near manic speed. I can hear myself breathing and my prefrontal cortex-esque gears turning instead of forcing myself to remember things to type up later or struggling to jot things down in inkpad notepad on my phone (and promptly forgetting to check the app later).
I am trying to get a hello kitty/rarity cutie mark/pinkie pie cutie mark wax seal stamp thing custom made just so I can use it to seal envelopes because this pen makes me want to snail mail people in an electronic age.
Writing with this pen is not unlike making love, and I would struggle to go and do so if I was in the middle of writing something important with this pen.
It is fantasy made flesh. I can hear angels sighing, devils weeping. I have the red and black one, I want the other colors because OH MY GOD IT'S FULL OF STARS

I heard of people dunking the bird into boiling water before plucking out the feathers. Isn't it rather hard to do it without?
I never really found plucking that troublesome or time consuming. You generally could do it in around 10-15min at a leisurely pace. Especially with small birds like Snipes and Woodcocks.
I personally always found the cleaning up, after preparation, to take the longest and be the most tedious ^^'.As to why we didn't scald them, I'm not actually sure, althought some birds have somewhat brittle skin (such as Phesants and Woodcocks) and maybe even scaling them at relative low temperaturs causes skin breakage and partial cooking of the meat?

I once bought a turkey that came with quills still in, although the feathers had been clipped off.
I didn't know I was buying it this way.It took pliers and vise-grips to get the damned things out.
The scalding water story in my family:
My Polish grandfather had a butcher shop in Chicago (1920's-40's).
All the boys worked in the shop; my dad, as the youngest, was the one they always sent down into the basement where there was a heated bin of water for this purpose. Grandpa was insistent on exactly how high you were supposed to count before pulling the birds out, but my dad was lazy and thought they were still too hard to pull, so family story has it that one day when he had to get two birds ready for one of the neighborhood ladies in a hurry, he left them in so long that all of the feathers floated up onto the surface of the water and the birds were partly-cooked on the outside.

Makes sense, Kjeldorn. The last time we had a few feathers unplucked on our chicken it was a pain to pull out. I suppose for smaller birds are easier.

Background: 10 years ago, my father-in-law convinced us to use first-generation Trex instead of redwood for our deck because it was more environmentally-friendly, cheaper, and would (hahaha) last longer.
10 years later, the crap has been the stuff of nightmares: Degrading, warping, falling apart. Worse than the cheapest wood you can imagine. I am... displeased... and we're going to have to replace our entire deck within a year or two.
So, as I think I mentioned, I had to pull up a good percentage of this craptastic deck to replace the sump pump (still working beautifully, thank you). Two weeks later, I'm putting the deck back in and... the pieces have warped over two weeks. What the frigging heck, Trex?
So as I leaned against a piece of plywood pushing the warped Trex board back into place and Impus Major started screwing it in, he waxed philosophical:
Impus Major: You know, if I were a tree, and I were made into this stuff, I'd be really mad. It's kind of like if you were an animal, and you were killed and made into food, and the food tasted bad. It just sucks!

...one of my children has managed to stay so on-top of everything, including bonus questions on prior tests, that they could literally ignore this essay and finish the semester with 100%.Something just sits wrong with me about this. Does that mean it's possible to finish with more than 100% then?
Yep. I have a setup on my tests with three short essay questions - they have to pick two and may attempt the third for extra points. If you consistently get full credit on everything and do well on the extra credit questions, you can exceed 100%.
I don't give extra credit very often, but every now and then, it comes up.

I have nieces who are vegetarian since yoing and they find the taste of meat too bloody for their liking. The smell turns them off.
I think if you start at a young age your taste buds are conditioned in a certain way so you don't even get meat cravings, rather it actually turns you off.
