German has 14 vowel sounds.

French has 12, not counting nasals.
Italian has 7.
Spanish has 5.

English has up to 27, depending on who is counting. There just aren't enough ways to represent our messed up vowels.

What IS the German equivalent of the θ/th sound? (As in the end of "with", the sound at the beginning of "the" is a different representation - nevermind we use the same letter combination for it -_-)

English is the PC (read: murder hobo) of linguistics.

So "the" would be "ze" and "with" would be "wiss", got it.

Hey, it doesn't murder them, it just beats them up and goes through their pockets for loose vocabulary.

Night everyone. Almost finished 1000-page book but the last 50 pages remains for tomorrow. I barely see through my sleepy eyes.
