After taking the book, the cousin, who had been as close as a sister to my mother growing up, decided that since her family wass 'more religious' (whatever TF that means-guess they went to church more often but kinda missed the whole 'Thou Shall not Steal' bit) that they deserved to keep the family bible. So, my mother had to spend her last few months of life feeling betrayed by a trusted family member over a bible, of all things.

I don't know whether to cry or scream right now. He was never really gone as long as I knew I had that part of him, something to hold in my hand that had been his. Something I would place in my son's hands someday. Now... I have nothing of him.
If it is any consolation, you and your son are your father's true legacy. Your scumbag brother can never take that away.

Hey aeglos, I never mentioned that I spent two tours in Germany. First one from late '77 to late '8- in Kitzingen, then from early '83 to early '86 in Garlstedt. During the first tour I went to Wine Festival in Rodelseer. Man they make some good wine.

I live 85 miles northwest of kitzingen.Growing up in the Fulda Gap we had a huge US Army presence when i was a child. Tank Divisions here in Gelnhausen, in Hanau and Büdingen. Helicopters in Erlensee, the Airbase in Frankfurt.
Kitzingen is a huge wine producer, most people conect beer and Germany (and thruthfully so) but we have a very old and huge wine production and wine culture. I live in an Area not known for Beer or wine but Applewine instead, in fact drinking one while I type this

Hey Aeglos I messed up a little bit. I meant to say first tour was from late '77 to late '80. During the second tour I took my Sportster over and toured all over northern Germany. even traveled the AutoBahn from Osterholtz-Sharmbeck to Kitzingen and back.

Have you ever requested Civil War service records on your ancestors? I don't know how good they are for Southern soldiers, but they are interesting reads. I have them for my gg-grandfathers and their brothers. A lot of little factoids that give a glimpse into their lives. At least you might find some knowledge to pass down to your sons.
I research this stuff from time to time. When I find something I scan it and share it. It's sad when families hoard info/pics/knowledge/stuff. It's more sad when someone does what was done to you.

LPM, I'm feeling your pain. Right now my brother is living with our parents. For the last 18 months. And he's officially done some renovating by building an "office/game room" in the basement so he can work down there and cut down on the noise pollution from his video games. I've talked to my mom about it, worried he is "staking a claim" on the house and know that I'm going to have to sit down with him and lawyers to make sure he's not going to try something when they pass.

What the?!...When my dad passed he divided his gun collection up among us sons. Solnes has always been uncomfortable with guns in the house so I had my mother keep them for me. So I talked to her today about getting mine and maybe buying his M-14 off her as well. She tells me she doesn't have them anymore, that he stole them and she has no idea who he sold them to. I know it may sound stupid to some, but those guns and the Civil War Sabres were all he left me, everything I had of the man. And she never even called the police, no report filed nothing. He's in Hampton Va now, and I'm trying to track him down to A) Find out what he did with them, and B) let him know I will be coming for him, I will not suffer a piece off s#&* like him to carry the same name as me.
Those were mine, my part of Dad, to be handed down to my sons.

You need to it tattooed backward on your hand so it leaves an imprint of the word on people's faces.
Of course, this may make it easier for you to be tracked down by the authorities, but it may be worth it, especially in this case.

I didn't realize that today was the day that the flea market starts where I live. There are a few interesting sets of teacups and a little tea-for-one teapot/cup combo that I'm interested in, although I think the lady is charging waaaaaay too much. I also ran into a BUNCH of people from work- first job, not second job. It sometimes helps to know that through my first job I work with a part of the community that is often forgotten about, and that they really do appreciate what I do.

It's a bright shiny day at the Curtin farm. I have to decapitate my rebellious grass and sow my wildflower garden today. Also, it is past time for my sunflowers to go in. I managed to plant my Dells Atlantic Giant pumpkin seedlings. I am hoping to gets at least one or two 100+ pound specimens this fall

Yeah, he sold them for the money to move to VA with his girlfriend after leaving his wife. Real upstanding guy.
Yes, both sides fought for the Confederacy, although there was one on the Jordan side who crossed over and fought for the Union as a calvary officer. The Moore side were poor share croppers and laborers, used to work the fields beside the slaves but a fight was a fight, and no Moore would turn down a fight. I have a china cabinet that was bought by one of the Jordans after the war ended, he was one of the lucky Southern soldiers that actually got paid when it was done.
