Anyway I'm feeling particularly snappish today so...meh. Ah hell. I'll just get it off my chest. Might make me feel better about it.
My aunt said that a pregnant lady in my cousin's colleagues church went to Tokyo and was told to go for a radiation check up on her return. The radiation results were too high and she was told to abort the baby and not have children for 5 years.
Now I know there's a lot of fake news going about etc, so yeah, what do you guys think?
I was planning to go and get that radiation test done, since I did go for a vacation in Japan. If I come out clean, then that's scientific proof that going there doesn't make you radioactive.
My BF said that he wouldn't believe it unless he talks to the person who was affected.
My aunt that sent me this message isn't the sort that spends the whole day spamming people with news, and I'm quite close to her.
This is a bunch of @#$%.
Radiation, the type from a nuclear powerplant, comes in 3 different forms. Alpha, Beta and Gamma. Alpha, gets stopped by something as thin as a sheet of paper. Beta, by a thin sheet of aluminum (you would be safe inside a car).
Gamma is special, that it goes trough nearly everything. Even Lead stops most of it, but sometimes not all.
But gamma is the least dangerous in this regard, as it will go right trough you, without hitting a cell (and thus not damaging the DNA).
So, to be exposed to dangerous levels of radiation, this lady would have needed to go to Fukushima itself, and poke around over there. Not only walk around, but touch stuff.
That area is not easily accessible. You could sneak in, but why you would do that while pregnant????
So, if she went to Fukushima, and got exposed poking around, she could have been exosed to potential leathal amounts of radiation. (Alpha is baaaaad for you). Or maybe picked up dust that emitted beta radaiation. Could be.
But there is no way telling how it would affect the baby. Alpha can literally poke holes in you, but that would emediately be apperant. Puking. Loss of concious. Bleeding from Mucosa.
Beta exposure could alter DNA, causing mutant/cancer cells. But you would have no way of knowing untill a few years after the baby was born at the earliest.
As to not having kids for five years.... if you're exposed to such levels of radiation, its not for five years. Its forever. Females get born with all their eggs already there. If the DNA of the eggs is damaged, there is no replacing them. Waiting a few years does not change this.
Of course, getting enough radiation exposure to potentially damage all your eggs is also the kind of radiation that will kill you in a few years. So that point is generally moot.

The abortion is for fear that the baby (and future babies) will have birth defects due to the radiation. How much is too much etc…have to go read up..
Whether the woman is really radiated or not…well that’s an entirely different issue altogether.
Most types of radiation are stopped by the womb. Highest risk for the fetus is low radiation substances consumed by the mother (the substances would radiate from inside the body).
So, the mother would have had to consume contaminated substances. And you can be sure no foodstuffs from the Fukushima region will be used.Also, if she would have a radiation risk, she would be given iodine pills, taking away the largest risk of radiation for the baby.

I don't think I know anyone who hasn't had a close experience with Cancer. My father passed away 3 years ago from it (technically it was an infection but you all know how that works) My grandma had breast cancer but they got to it in time, and one of my best friends had leukemia when he was young but its been in recession for well all of his life minus like a year. That is without even going that deep. So basically F@#$ cancer.

Young kids are always so much more polite to me the milenial and Igen aged ones so nice. Its always those old women who are usually the rudest. Pretty well all the other age groups vary greatly.
It's simple natural selection:
- The more bitter you are, the longer you live. (Just look at cats.)- Women outlive men.
Therefore, most old women you meet will be bitter.

Sometimes I really hate our school's purchase order system and wish we just had a staff credit card like plenty of other districts do.
I turned in said form some weeks before last school year let out. I got an email invoice today...and no one's in right now to ask about it. This is extra galling because they've outright lost my POs before - also this past year, my order of classroom supplies got mislaid, and they found it the last week of school...which I was informed of because they needed me to reprint it for them.
