People have told me I should be a stand-up comedian. I just think "Ugh, standing."

And I would probably need to wear pants.

That strangely makes a lot of sense.

Geralt from the Witcher said that if he had to choose between the two evils, he would rather not choose.

Eh...I'd choose what I feel is the lesser evil. Life goes on.

I like keeping chickens. Warm. On my pan.

Or maybe she meant "chicks"?

I think, in PLL (DE)'s case, the chickens would have to be live and running about covered in feathers, laying eggs and squawking. Damn me if I wouldn't like to join them.

A scientist was trying to get two rare lizards to breed, but no matter he tried they couldn't produce offspring. Eventually, he gave up, stating that the problem was "a reptile dysfunction".

The children have given up on guessing what I'll be listening to when they come in for class.

I've reached a compromise where I'll play Christmas music while they work, but I rebel when I can. Today...Penzance.

The look I got...

I'm already sick of people asking me if I'm going to see the new Star Wars movie, which apparently (despite the title) won't be the last one.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The only way I'll watch Star Wars again is if it's directed by Seth Mcfarlane.

Chickens, while a deliciously nice animal to keep do come with a few downsides.

Just looking at my parents home, they have at least half the blame for the escalating arms-race, between the Kjeldorn family and the local predator population (especially during the winter).

My mother wanted free-ranged chickens -> foxes rejoiced!

My mother fired back by creating a large enclosure for the chickens (which they promptly learn to escape by climbing a tree in the enclosure, and jumping the fence) -> foxes wait, climb over or dig under the fence + rejoice.

My mother electrifies the fence, during night-time -> foxes wait, climb over or dig under the fence + rejoice.

My mother digs down 75cm wide, 1cm thick composite rock plates all around the enclosure. -> foxes wait, climb over or dig under the fence composite rock plates + rejoice.

My mother, finally fed up, declares that "foxes aren't welcome at the farm anymore". Puts up fox traps, during wintertime (also the actual fox hunting season), and any fox caught, that's older then a whelp recently kicked out of the den, is shoot. -> Still waiting for the foxes response (My guess is body armor, I wouldn't put it past them).

Edit.: Oh she also learn, by setting up a game-camera, that foxes where the primary culprits of raiding her strawberry/miscellaneous berry garden during dawn and dusk...

Oddly, that would be the surest way to turn me off of the franchise.

I'll probably just Redbox the new one. I don't care enough about seeing it immediately, and there are other movies out I'd rather see if I'm going to donate a kidney to afford to go to the theater.

An example of proper citation format is on the board
Assignment sheet clearly says "zero without works cited page"
"Wait, we have to cite the book?"

(For 2017, at least)

EDIT: Yes, of course. His choir teacher assigned an extra journal entry, his Spanish teacher gave a fairly lengthy essay, and his physics teacher gave out a dozen fairly-difficult problems, all assigned Wednesday and due Friday, because kids should never have any free time before a break...

... huh. Yeah.

EDIT: ah, ninja Nobody. Also: WAT. That is extremely... mm... unwise? Probably a good word, yes. Unwise.

Lucky. We're on through Wednesday. Granted, Tuesday and Wednesday are largely intended as catch-up days, but still.

Well, apparently the school staff are livid about the change because they're down to a flat 2 weeks of vacation (they have to be back on January 2). I can see that; I remember when I was growing up both my parents were professors so we'd take a 2-week hiking/backpacking trip in the summer and a 2-week cross-country skiing trip in the winter. Having no additional time during the winter break would have been unhappy.

(I see and understand the arguments in favor of getting rid of long breaks to eliminate student forgetfulness, but at the same time I recall that working 60-80 hours a week for 38 weeks a year really ripped into me; I needed those summers to recoup. There would have to be a recognition that teachers work their a***s off and a reduction in hours to make it feasible, in my mind.)

At this point, I would like to not have classes next week for one reason: they are bouncing off the walls because CHRISTMAS!!!!!, and I just cannot.

So Tuesday is a "fun" day with lots of games and activities in the afternoon; Wednesday is a half day that kids with good attendance don't have to come.

It's cute how they think they're beating the system with the one-page of notes I'm giving them for their econ final.

I'm just waiting for them to realize how hard it's going to be to find their very specific information when they have created a solid wall of 4-pt font.

But yeah. We've only got the 2 weeks, too, but we also get two days off around Easter in addition to spring break, so I guess they had to get the days from somewhere.

Break doesn’t start for our schools until after next week. They run all the way through to next Friday, homework assigned as normal. Meanwhile all the normal holiday parties and activities are going on next week as well just to make sure no one escapes with any sanity intact. >.<

Granted, I think it's because since I called it their semester final due to being their last grade, they think it's worth about a letter grade...despite me giving them a rubric with the point values that shows it is not.

A couple of the kids finally figured out that it is not worth 10% of their grade.

"Miss, why did you tell us it was 10%?"

Nobody wants to hear the story of the decent man who lived an uneventful life and died of old age content in his accomplishments. It's the outliers who are interesting and exciting.

Oh, definitely. I just don't want to give my kids an unwarranted bad rap.
