Wow. Thank you, NH!

~thoughtful look~ Hmmnnn... Interesting. So begging and pleading does work. BUTTT... NH likes lisamarlene a LOT more than he likes me. ~shrugs~ Hey NobodysHome. If you have a spare gaming laptop with an NVidia video card on it that you are not using that would play Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and Skyrim, then I would be more than willing to take it off your hands. ~give my best conniving smile~

~grins~

j/k!!! Sort of.

LOL. A spare "gaming laptop"?

We have none of those, I'm afraid. Even the machine I gave LM won't run those games. That's kind of why they're surplus -- we inherit "workhorse" machines that don't have much "gaming oomph" and give them away because they won't even run simple games like Team Fortress 2.

I mean, next in line for the giveaway (if I can dig it up) would be a 2001 Dell running Ubuntu. Great machine, very reliable, but it sure as heck won't run any game that was released after, say, 2005...

I figured as much. It was meant more in jest. OTOH, if you did have a real one... ~pulls out the sap and readies it~ Then you might be in trouble. ~grins~

NobodysWife put on an episode on Friday night while waiting for the rest of us to arrive, and by the time Shiro, Hi, Impus Major, and I were all in the living room, we were all hooked. We're 4-5 episodes in and really enjoying it.

We have what's called The UW Swap Shop.

Basically, anything the UW (or UW students) don't need anymore can be picked up there.

It's pretty much a flea market for nerds and geeks (please note: you'll have to get your live chickens elsewhere).

We got our first two computers, four chairs, and a desk from there.

Current working theory - none of the others are just Id-0's with no body for some reason.

This theory estimated as of the first five minutes of episode 2. I am going to be very amused when I'm proven wrong or stupid.

I hear you, NH. My problem is the same, only I don't really like used electronics (who knows what rootkits etc the previous owners may have there), so every six years or so a low battery life forces me to upgrade to (boo, hiss!!!) something new. Invariably, the new stuff is WORSE than my old. So when people say "cool new phone!", I mumble something like "Let's wait a year or so, then this one will start to be good".

I like audio books, especially the one that provides one with about 37 hours of solid Barsoom, read out in a voice somewhat like Woody Allen's when he's in a high state of excitement.

That's fair.

I found out I have combination shin-splints and <unintelligble gibberish> which means that I'm not stretching my lower legs or ankles enough before I've been running, causing a bruised feeling on my heel, but a painful feeling on my shins, and cramping in my legs, regardless! Makes it really hard to run!

But it's exciting, because now I've learned how to do stretches more properly that should prevent that! Woohoo!

(I've been doing stretches, but it hasn't been helping. I've been doing them slightly wrong, but kind of correctly; in any event, I'm hopefully going to be able to fix all this nonsense! Through more pain!)

Vastly appreciate the offer, but now that I've put the idea in NobodysWife's head I can pretty much guarantee something'll show up for me for Christmas.

I'm very hard to shop for, because I really don't want anything. We get "mad money" every month and I just don't spend mine outside of Paizo.

So I happen to know that when I say things like, "Hey, Impus Minor, can I have your iPod?" and he says, "No," an iPod will somehow mysteriously appear in my life without action on my part.

I suppose I should want more. But as I told lisamarlene the other day, right now I'm paying $203/month to store other people's old junk, so the last thing I want is MORE stuff!

If it's the scene I'm thinking of, it's not that it's a moon per se, it's that the entire moon teleported! THAT'S what surprised them.

Well, yeah, but the sheer panic-tone at, "gravitational waaaaaaaaaaves" that got me. Clearly, it's a part of teleportation in this series, which makes their detection not only important, but critical. But that waves are detected at all really shouldn't be noteworthy by the time whatever tech they're clearly using is a thing.

EDIT: "that" not "hat

Yes, but I'm going to disagree because if you're in the middle of nowhere, well off the beaten trail, a sudden incoming teleport is worrisome. If that incoming teleport is something moon-sized, I'd be pretty darned panicked too.

YMMV.

No, what I'm saying is that, in the series, yes, it's significant, because it's also linked to teleportation.

But! Regardless of that, they should always be able to pick up gravitational waves. Like, no matter where they are in the universe they are, there should be waves of gravity nearby doing gravity wave things. So detecting gravitational waves shouldn't be a "thing" - and, to be fair, in-character, it's probably not.

If I had to justify it, I'd say that in-character, they've just set up their systems to ignore most waves, and only "significant" ones show up (those that are associated with teleportation).

None of that is clear to the audience, though - instead, it's just "aahhhh~! graaaaaaavity waves!" which struck me as hilarious.

Yes. I was watching you.

Anyway,

Ido:
We're all convinced he's the original, idealistic consciousness of the "bad guy" (the guy with grey hair and the mask). If you watch the flashback where his consciousness gets put in the very first iBot, the bot looks very much like Ido. Ido's personality is very idealistic, much like the younger industrialist seems. So the flow seems to be:
(1) Idealistic young industrialist creates iBots, and in a demonstration puts his consciousness into one
(2) Somehow there are accidents that cause him to become bitter and jaded, and his old idealistic consciousness to escape
(3) Someone knows he exists, hence his assisted escape
(4) We're betting the whole backstory has something to do with the little girl

We could hypothetically text, but it was terrible, and cost money, and we hated it, so always disabled that extra cost. And everyone wanted to know why we didn't send more pictures.

Awesome! Can we donate? The kids have been looking to sell off their (hundreds of) Ugly Dolls, and honestly I think they'd feel really good about it giving them to kids in need...

EDIT: One of my serious peeves about living in the Bay Area is that all the major charities only accept brand-new, in-the-box-with-the-tags-still-on toys and clothing donations. I think I've mentioned that I get fantastic HR support because I donated a Celica-load of toys to a little girl in HR who lost her home in a fire. I haven't mentioned that I had that carload of toys because no charities would take them because they weren't new.
