Has anyone else noticed that the & symbol kind of looks like a dog dragging it's butt on the floor?

Edit: Of course the dog is nekkid.

One really cold morning last winter my wife sent me a text that said "Windows won't open, totally frozen. Help."
I replied "Carefully pour warm, not hot, water over them and tap edges with your hand. If that doesn't work, try gently tapping with a hammer."
15 minutes later she texted back "Uhh, I think the laptop is completely broken now."

Perhaps we need an animated emoji for a dog dragging its butt on the floor.

A German, an American, and a Russian walk into a bar. The bartender looks at them suspiciously and says "Is this some kind of joke?"

Me: "Waiter, I'm sorry but I cannot possibly eat all of this food. Could you wrap it up for me to eat later?"

Waiter: "Sir, this is a buffet..."

Me: "Wrap it up I said!"

A Weather Dominator is a Weather control device from the old '80s G.I.Joe cartoon. The humor is that Freehold got his at a COBRA Garage Sale. But why would anyone want to buy a garage, when you could build one? :)
That is my Weather Dominator! Give it back!

I paid you ten dollars for it fair and square!

Besides, your wife has actually seen me naked relatively recently and she can attest, no one needs to see that, especially in daylight.

So, yesterday, for fun, I helped my Eldest make a new character for Neverwinter Nights!

I'm so proud!

He made all his own choices: it's a fighter, who is a girl, that is entirely... green... and... has... a... high... charisma.

...

... Captain Kirk would be so proud!

(Coincidentally, though my Eldest did not, I and my Youngest both watched the new 2009 Star Trek film that same day. Hm.)

EDIT: okay, I don't suppose a six-year-old film can really be considered "new" anymore.

Maybe he has seen Guardians of the Galaxy and wants to play Gamora.

Anyway, kids often want to play the most visually bizarre things.

Some of them never get over that phase.

*Remembers a grown up player who insisted on playing in L5R a occidental looking woman with her hair dyed purple, different colored eyes, who wore a kimono that showed one of her breasts and slept with her horse instead of in a proper room. The GM ended allowing it, but warned him that society was very traditional and that his character could be treated poorly. He said he was OK with it. Then he was pissed off because people didn't inherently trust his character.*

As my father used to say, "If a joke requires an explanation, you shouldn't bother, because it wasn't funny anyway."

If he were to say it now, it would be pretty creepy...

It's a beautiful day to not do anything.

Well, I don't know whether to celebrate or feel chagrined:

  • One of my teammates said, "Hey, NobodysHome! I'm using this terminology to match this doc from this other product, OK?"
  • I responded, "NOT OK!" and immediately fired off a fairly irate e-mail to the standards team, saying, "Are we no longer even following naming conventions? I'm sure our users will love that!"
  • The author replied, "The PM says it's OK, and there are two different ways to do this, so there should be two different names."
  • On the one hand, I felt that was a perfectly reasonable answer. On the other hand, why do we have to suffer through standards committees if we don't have to adhere to those standards?
  • So the standards committee just came back and smacked down the author, vindicating my original vindictive e-mail.

  • On the one hand, I'm happy to finally see Global Megacorp enforcing some kind of standards.
On the other hand, I'm not the sort of person who EVER loves to see someone else get smacked down because I ratted them out...

Damn being Lawful Good! Moral conflicts are the WORST!

LOL. As of Friday, I finished all of my own projects, and bailing out my peers. So my manager has no work for me other than, "Maybe help the new person get started on this course we have no documentation on yet."

So it's a pretty relaxing week for me, capped off by a 3-day weekend.

Life is good... for a week...

My last day at my job is rapidly approaching. I know I'm doing the right thing for my future in leaving, but I will miss two things: constantly being able to buy craft beer at Budweiser prices, and the steady flow of free samples the beer distributors throw as us retail guys to get us to order cases of their product.

Okay, I might miss the constant crazy homeless shoplifter shenanigans a little, too.

I wear cargo shorts nearly year round.

The only time I don't is at work, when I forget to do laundry, and when it gets -30 out.

And yes, love the pockets. Except when I have to find my keys... every pocket is a suspect...

Shorts don't work for me at any time of year. I'm too, well, short. If I get shorts from the guys section of the store, they're just awkward pants. If I get shorts from the girls section of the store they're so short they're practically underpants. (WTF?) Or I try capris, which are actually pants on me, but the nice thing is that I don't have to hem them like I do with normal pants. So I just wear linen trousers all summer. Bonus, keeping my skin covered reduces the likelihood of sunburn. :)

But I'm still jealous of those pockets....
