I've always hated weight training. It makes me feel weird. Didn't help that they made everyone freak out about hernias. I'm strong enough, but not because I tear my muscles for the fun of it.

Everyone should drive in Boston at some point in their life. I was afraid for my life at times. And that on top of the traffic. :D Makes you appreciate the drivers in your home city.
Since the rental car was a stick ... and I've ripped the clutch out three times in a year on a standard, she did all of the driving to and from. They certainly do have some crazy routes.

Sticks ftw!

Man, these pills are really weird. The anti depressants are already starting to work. After a night's rest I wake up as a blank slate emotionally speaking. I don't really start feeling anything until a few hours later, but when I do I feel much better than I have in a while.

It's starting to taper off now, though, and I can feel myself getting more frustrated with each passing minute.

Anyone else ever had experiences like that?

Yes. I took antidepressants from the time I was 12 until just over a year ago--almost 11 years. They made me feel like s&!!, a complete zombie. Now I'm finding out that they probably did some permanent damage to my nervous system. Antidepressants (especially SSRIs) are bad f*+&ing news.
Took them for three years until I got out of a rut around January. I never really felt that much difference. I think I feel more violent emotions, but it could be imagined (I don't "know myself" very well perhaps).

Everyone should read this before taking meds full time.... or medicating your kids... crap, before taking anything your doctor suggests. Unless you're really messed up and don't have time to read a book before you die of something serious. Well... use your common sense people. It's a scary and important book.

Don't read it. All our products are safe, the FDA (which is run by our former execs) said so. Our double blind studies (which are secret) indicate there are no harmful side effects caused by our products (because we ejected anyone who had a side effect immediately and struck them from the test group--and AS IF we're going to run a long term study...). Your doctor knows best (and we should know because we got him a great deal on a vacation in Bermuda).

Pharmaceutical politics:
As I said, I didn't notice much effect, but my parents did. My doctor didn't push them on me (it was actually my parents who brought it up), but I figured they might have some benefit. And something did: I'm still alive. I took generics, not name brands, and low dosages. My doctor was the one who suggested that I go off the anti-depressants: it wasn't me. If this book is at the library, I'll get it, but I'm not interested in spending my money on something that (from the introduction) appears to criticise doctors. We really have enough of that in the media. Our state had to deal with faith-healers who refuse medicine for children and our nation has had to deal with parents who refuse to immunise their children because of wrong studies about autism. I don't like big pharma for monopolies, but implying that your random doctor is a sell-out is patently (swidt?) unfair.

@SP: Yes! But roses aren't in season now. I tried to smell the scotch broom I was cutting today, but it doesn't really smell. It does make me sneeze, though.

To what you're probably referring: When I join a community (or rejoin, in this case, but it's changed enough) online, I'm very active. Actually, I think I was very active throughout my time on "FaWTL!!!" before I was temp. banned. Anyway, it gets my post count closer to the normal of my contemporaries.

About White Coat, Black Hat, not political, polemic, or paranoid in any way:

Spoiler:

There are a lot of great doctors out there. There are a few bad ones. More importantly, great people sometimes make mistakes, or are sometimes fooled by misinformation. In fact in some ways it's easier to fool someone who is confident in their expertise.

The book is not political, it's about how drugs are created, approved, and marketed, and it is written by a doctor.

Yep there is a couple of doctors around here that have ended up doing hard time because of these practices.

And then there are:

Spoiler:
the class action suits and fines levied against the companies... fines which don't even come close to the profits they earn from drugs I'll grant you... (and some of these drugs, it is turning out, do not work at all, and have nothing to offer but harmful side effects.)

Also. With all due credit there are a lot of amazing medicines out there and without the profits created by the American pharmaceutical industry we might not have them.

Just saying it pays to be aware of how things work.

Good stuff. Some of Diane's current neurological issues may trace straight back to a prescription drug she really didn't need, but NONE of her doctors are willing to seriously discuss the issue. Some modern drugs are literal life savers, but some are worse than the disease.

I think you just need to start the book acknowledging the amazing life saving things that have been achieved in the privately (profit) marshaled American pharmaceutical system and the brilliant people who work there, and recognize that the book is only concerned with when and why this system goes wrong.

If I remember correctly that's how the author starts off.
