That's it for now. I'll post additional titles individually rather than redoing the entire list.

P.S. I'll repost an updated master list once a year in June, after the Anime convention.

Rookie?

Um, ten years as supervisor of a 2-6 person shoveling crew disagrees quite strongly with that.

To say nothing of my 18 years living on a dairy farm in the middle of Wisconsin and having to haul buckets of water from the house to the barn because we were too poor to get heated water in the barn.

No offense, I guess I got a little annoyed there, but a rookie I am absolutely not.

There is no shame in being comfortable in the cold.

Besides, with all the layers I'm four times as cuddly and when I do concert security I look way more intimidating. :-)

Which is why I only do concert security in the winter. :-)

Really bummed out.

Local mini-slack-vention that traditionally hovers around the New Year's holiday is scheduled *on* the New Year's holiday this year.

There is no feasible way to attend, and can't pass up the holiday pay on New Year's Day...

I agree with the Cap'n. There is no shame in dressing for the weather. Not dressing for Winter properly will lead to Cold Weather Injuries. Frostbite damage is permanent, even if the fingers, toes, and ears look normal, unless those extremities are amputated. In fact, when I enlisted back in '87, the first thing I was taught was how to layer properly for Winter ( I arrived at Fort Benning in November ). It's been 29 years since then and I still have all my original parts.

EDIT: slight rewording of the post.

I'm curious, how many FaWtL members, or close friends live in or are close enough to the New York City area?

I need my Star Wars gaming fix.

If I were to do a post Holiday party and start a mini Star Wars West End Games campaign or a short Fantasy Flight Imperial Assault campaign, would we have enough players, 5 - 6, to pull this off AFTER the Holidays ?

adds an extra six layers of winter layers to bounce to NYC.

I'll try, but no promises.

I meant no offense, I was just declaring my love of cold weather. One should take all reasonable precautions in dangerously cold weather.

Hey, everyone.

Hard share.

If you're the praying kind, please pray for my family. My wife and I and our kids are fine, however, my extended family is going through a very large and difficult thing.

According to their wishes, no details will be supplied in a public place, at present (it makes them uncomfortable), but for an 18 year old to go through that kind of thing is... hard.

Frostbite is cell death on a large scale. When a cell freezes, all the water within the cell turns to ice. When the ice crystals pierce the cell wall, it's over for the cell.

Better watch out, you will end up like my ex-boyfriend. His goal? Own every anime title ever made. He has a bigger collection than I would ever want to try and count dating at least as far back as the 70's if not earlier.

I'll bear that in mind. I only watch anime for entertainment, and there's a lot of stuff that I wouldn't touch with a twenty foot pole. Such as anime which contains violence, even graphic violence, against women and children. I do have standards, after all.

John is one of the few that seems to have a larger collection than I do. :) Of course, the fact that so many good shows are on streaming services now means I don't buy as many series anymore, other than specific collector's boxes.

I don't have internet access in the garage I patrol, so I have to use DVDs. And I do need to keep my mind occupied at work, lest I fall asleep. Doing security in a Parking garage is mind-numbingly boring.

Speaking of work, it's 2:00 PM here in Pittsburgh. Signing off now so I can get ready to go. will check in at about 1:00 to 1:30 AM Eastern, when I get home.

An update: I gave her John's list, she said "great!" ignored it completely, half remembered her friend's suggestions ("It was Black something") and then started picking shows on Hulu at random, most of which seemed to start with girls in school girl outfits running away from things.

*sigh*

So, what's it like living in the Bay Area?

The low last night was 38. The high today was 54.

This is considered a "major newsworthy cold snap".

Yet if it breaks 70, it's a "major newsworthy heat wave".

Seasons? What are those?

EDIT: I'm sure I've posted it here before, but, this being FaWtL, what's the harm in posting twice? Or thrice? Or whatever?
- During the summer those of us in the "bay corridor" either don't have air conditioning, or never turn it on to 'save energy', so during the 2-3 weeks it breaks 80 outside, it's also over 80 inside
- Year-round we rarely turn the heat over 60, leading to the common trope that the Bay Area is an unbelievably cold place. It's just that our buildings are never heated "adequately" for those who are accustomed to it being 80 inside during the winter (I'm looking at YOU, Chicago!)

So amusingly enough, although our weather is some of the mildest on the planet, people constantly complain about it because we don't bother conditioning our buildings. What temperature is it outside? Well, it's close to that inside, too. Sorry! Saving energy in an uninsulated house and all!
(The Bay Area is the only place I routinely see people wearing down vests and wool hats indoors.)

Oh, total side note because I'm trying to put off watching these training videos for as long as humanly possible:

Last night was our first "Blue Apron Repeat", where we used one of their recipes, but we bought all the ingredients. Fresh-baked ciabatta from Semifreddi's (the original store no less!), fresh-ground beef from the corner store, Muir Glen tomato sauce, and NO WATER!!!!

Yeah. It was awesome. Ingredients make the meal.

Late to the party today. Hmmm.

I wish I could contribute to the anime conversation, but . . . . Too bad.

A capella song leading is not so awesome when fighting a respiratory infection, for those interested.

And it's amazing how working for competent bosses improves one's day.

Black Butler? That's a good one.
At least it's not "Black Lagoon", or I should hope not.

I love Black Lagoon but it is not for kids (or even some adults).

I don't have internet access in the garage I patrol, so I have to use DVDs. And I do need to keep my mind occupied at work, lest I fall asleep. Doing security in a Parking garage is mind-numbingly boring.
Having pulled many a shift guarding stuff in the middle of nowhere, I can attest to that fact.

Well, today was not nearly as boring as most are. Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center had their Holiday party today. The exit gates began having trouble processing credit cards, so I had to collect about a hundred parking tickets and let everyone out.

*grumble. stupid machines wouldn't work in the cold because they have no heat inside. grumble. Designed by geniuses, built by the lowest bidder. grumble*

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

John, are you sure it isn't the AI being developed in the Robotics Department trolling you?

I don't think so. I'm nowhere near the main campus. The machines work fine when it's warm. Electronics don't do so well when it gets cold.

Did you try lighting fires underneath them?

Couldn't. They're bolted to the concrete floor.

You could have someone sit out there with a hair dryer keeping them warm.

Yes, the band is fantastic that is really what I think. Oh by the way which one's Pink?

I think I will have to go see it in the theaters once again. But that may not happen in my small town.

D&December is BACK, baby~! Woo~!

ALSO~!

Man, Pools of Radiance: I wonder if I should play it, or just go back to sleep so I can get enough rest to make good decisions and be a not-awful parent, and otherwise do good, adult things. I should ponder that while I boot it up. Yes, that's probably best...

For those that have played the game before: is there any reason, whatsoever, to avoid modifying your ability scores?

Like... at all?

Because it doesn't seem that way.

(I'm considering doing so, because I accidentally deleted characters mildly based off of my wife and I, but after we'd written our earlier stats - I'm trying to recreate them and just kind of stumbled across the ability to edit our ability scores.)

Also, deeeeeeeeeefinately not related to anything whatsoever... *cough* >.>

... um... does anyone know how to alter character portraits and little sprites after you've created the character? Thanks!
